When Joanne Teague learnt that she may only have a few months to live she decided to take her three children out of school and, with her husband, spend six months travelling around Europe.
See You in September is the hilarious and uplifting account of this family’s journey through Europe. From the interviews with the children’s eccentric headteacher, to the vagaries of negotiating the Paris Metro with a toddler, the joys of navigating through Italian cities and the challenge of purchasing food for a family on a remote Greek island using only sign language, the book deals with every family’s holiday dreams – and nightmares – with a wonderfully light touch.
I didn't realise this was a true story but it was a wonderful book which made me want to pack up my life and head of to beautiful places and explore. It sounded like a great trip and fantastic memories being made.
This is a very pleasant holiday read. Actually it's good anytime! It shows how she dealt with her problems without wallowing in them. A very positive enjoyable story.
An enjoyable light read about a family fulfilling a long held dream to take six months out to tour Europe, after the author was diagnosed with a potentially life limiting disease, Vascular Ehlors Danlos. Their extensive travels take them through France, Italy, Greece, Corfu, Austria and Switzerland, experiencing the scenery, cultural sites, local cuisine and, of course, wine all along the way. It is a little repetitive in places - the children's consistent preference for swimming in preference to almost anything else, for instance - but the author writes so entertainingly, that's forgivable. Read on Kindle on UK car journeys - with mental notes of the places we should visit - or revisit! - in Europe, based on Jo Teague's vivid descriptions.
Fantastic read to remind you to take every opportunity you have! I loved this book, full of ups and downs following a family on their once in a lifetime trip across Europe. A real life account of events written by a mother of 3 travelling with her husband and children on an adventure of a lifetime. The writing style is honest and perfect for a good chuckle. Also raises great awareness for a lesser known disease that reminds you to take every opportunity life gives you
When the Teague family’s ambition to spend six months travelling the world is scuppered by health issues, not to be deterred, they adapt their plans - bring them forward a few years and substitute “world” for “Europe”. This autobiographical travel book. It’s an absolutely brilliant read, with laughter and tears along the way. Really enjoyed it.
What a fantastic and inspirational read! A book about a family trip of a lifetime after the author is diagnosed with a life limiting condition. I loved reading about the places they visited and the family antics. A great read.
Fabulous, fun entertaining rendition of a family's adventures around Europe after they take time out of everyday life, filling the 'mother' having survived a life threatening illness, recommended read.
A pleasant read. It's the story of a family who decide to take their kids out of school for six months so that the family can spend time together. The Mum has a terminal illness.
