Southern Sanctuary #2

To Trap A Temptress

Rate this book
What Nell needs is a man - a completely shocking, ridiculously inappropriate, insanely unsuitable, ludicrously improper man.

Considered too vanilla in a world full of flavours, Doctor Nell Montgomery’s dating life is a barren waste land with few prospects on the horizon. Tired of being labelled the nice girl, she’s decided she needs a life make-over stat. With that in mind she instigates a bold plan to shatter her nice girl image irretrievably. All she needs is one shockingly inappropriate man. When she does find him she intends to seduce the heck out of him and bury her goody two shoes reputation once and for all.

There’s only one seven foot tall problem standing in her way. His name is Drum, an elite warrior in the Goddess Maat’s guard. He’s spent over a hundred years killing magical nasties in the most vile, bloodiest manner possible – and quite frankly enjoying the hell out of himself. With a reputation as the big bad, Drum is used to dangerous women throwing themselves at him. What he isn’t prepared for is one gorgeous Doctor who challenges and tempts him at every turn.

When the baddest of the bad and the sweetest of the sweet are thrown together on a tropical island with a nameless, faceless danger stalking Nell, it’s up to Drum to protect her and at the same time prove to his little temptress that she’s the perfect not so nice woman for him.

An optimist, yet overly sarcastic. Big on bringing the laughs and the heat to her paranormal romance and cosy mystery series. A huge fan of snark, with a side order of bickering and a double heaping of banter. Delivering to the page sweet alpha males and their more than a match female counterparts. Before wrapping it all up in a hugely satisfying HEA each and every time.

Living in Melbourne, Australia, with her blue tongue lizard, that pokes it head out from under the porch twice a year. When not writing, can generally be found reading.

Cute and smutty is what this series is, plus a dash of funny. It's a good mix.
Oh, and there is always someone trying to kill someone else, so even better!

Yes, exactly cute killy kitty.

So in this one we have a guy named Drum. Really? Drum? *sigh* Well, at least I like him. If he had been a dumbass the name would have gone onto my list of "Stupid Book Character Names." It's a long list. There was a girl named Deuce and guy named Patch that I remember off the top of my head. Authors don't get how distracting stupid names are for us readers. So when I read Drum, all I could think of was a drum. I know - my mind is so creative.

But maybe it's a normal name in Australia? Let me know if you know the answer to this. Because it is obvious that the writer isn't American. I would say that many of the words and spellings are British because I am used to them, but I see she is living in the future world of Oz.

WTF Australia?

Australia is so weird. They live upside down and everything there will kill you. Okay, I like the last part, but they also live in the future.

Anyway, the author uses the word "knickers" all the time and that just makes me think of those Little House on the Prairie things that the ye old ladies had to wear as some sort of form of humiliation by the patriarchy.

Wait, maybe those were called Bloomers. Same thing.

Anyway, so the book. Yeah. The female heroine is named Nell and is a healer. She is tired of her good-girl image and wants to be naughty. She picks the biggest, baddest, scariest looking guy she can find - Drum - and tries to pick him up at a family party. The good news is that Drum is very willing to be picked up, but doesn't want to be put down afterwards.

Drum shows up at her school reunion/vacation and spends four days with her.
What do you think is going to happen?

This is a fun romp of a paranormal romance with lost of magical beings and creatures and a fast paced plot.

I liked the hero and the heroine. Opposites attract are always fun.

This is a light enjoyable read.

Sigh, this was pretty much perfect. There was action, a sense of pervasive fun, lots of snappy dialogue that had me smiling and often laughing - and most of all it had a hot, hot romance, that also has some surprisingly sweet elements.
Drum, our H, a hulking warrior, was just great. Alpha, protective, slyly funny and downright dreamy.
Nell, our h, was a delight. And far from the vanilla sweet persona she thinks she is. Smart, capable, funny and with some mad skills, that she just has to be angry enough to use.
We catch glimpses of awesome characters we've already met from book one - Darcy? I so need her story now!
Loved that the location was a tropical island, such a refreshing change from some grim dark urban city set-up.
The romance was great - a match up of two strong willed people who come to realise quickly that they are perfect for one another.
Sweet, really funny and pretty darn awesome. Loved it.

Funny and hot. My favourite combination.
Fell in love with the studly stoic H. Drum was way hot, he was sizzling and somehow managed to be both alpha male and still sweet. The h was also great. She considered herself plain and too nice, but circumstances proved her to be confident, strong willed and more than a match for the H.
It was wonderful how the author show cased how perfect the H & h were for one another.
Action. A great setting. Lots of witty dialogue. Tremendous secondary characters added lots of depth to story and this world the author has created. Loved Darcy - she's snarky and deadly. Can't wait to read her story.
Don't know how the author managed to created a sizzling hot romance, that was at the same time kind of sweet - loaded with a surprising number of LOL moments. Loved this couple. Loving this author. Am diving into book 3 right now.

Equal parts sweet, hot and funny. Swept away by this read. Loved Nell. Who thinks she's average and the nice girl - yet the story proves she's capable, determined and kind of kick ass (for a healer).
And Drum, our H, sigh, big, stoic, death glare at the ready. Over-protective? Yes. But he just needs Nell to teach him to trust.
Loved mean girl Devon, and the setting? Seriously, when's the last time a PNR was set on a tropical island. Loved it.
The secondaries added so much. Darcy, that girl is awesome, can't wait for her story.
The world building is sucking me in big time, as the author drops all these little clues and hints about other characters along the way.
This series is proving to be highly addictive. Yeah.

Drum, the H, is just so darn yummy. Macho, yet kind, gruff but with a sly sense of humor. The h, Nell, really was his perfect match. She was feisty, independent and smart.
Fun circumstances throw these two together (loving the match maker manipulations) again and again. Sparks fly. Lots of humour and witty dialogue.
There was action, bad guys, layered (fun/interesting) secondary characters and a hot romance - that the author did a really nice job of leading up to, so that it had depth; it was sweet, funny, sexy and hot - all at the same time.
Seriously, what a great world. And I love, love, love Darcy. When is she getting her own book?

Double Squeeee!!!! This second book in the series was lots of fun, and brought not just a whole heaping of sexy but a surprising measure of sweet that had me sighing and swooning.
Nell, our doctor/magical healer heroine, is tired of being the 'good girl' so she sets her sights on Drum, Maat warrior who looks like grim death but is hot as hell. He's a little tired of being typecast the 'bad guy' - but damn,if he doesn't want the gorgeous doctor.

These two flirt, clash, and dance around one another whilst the dialogue snarks and zings. There's magic, an interfering matchmaker, and Goddess. A tropical island. Mean girls. And a stalker threatening Nell. Plus we catch up with several secondary characters from book one who bring the funny - am falling in love with Darcy, need her story - NOW.

Fantastic how Nell stands up to Drum and teaches him to respect her. How it becomes obvious as the story progresses that they are a perfect complement to one another.
I was torn between laughing and swooning whilst I read - the best possible combination. Loved this world and adored the MC's. Another walk on air HEA. So good.

This was somehow both sweet and sizzling. And at the same time nothing but pure escapist fun. Lots of witty dialogue. The heroine, Nell, is a healer, capable and smart. The Hero, Drum, looks like the grim reaper, but is really an incredibly nice guy. These two made me laugh, and made me sigh. Oh, my, is it getting hot in here? Totally.
Cute, amusing read, with some action and a villain who appears to be after Nell. And it is up to Drum to protect her.
Great world. Loved all the secondary characters and the glimpses of the southern sanctuary. Sweetie of a read.

There is nothing I love more in a book than an h that dishes out the schooling! Especially when it's to an over protective, over bearing, smug, full of his own I-am-male-see-me-pound-my-chest alpha male. Don't get me wrong I adore the above mentioned H especially when it's mixed with a sweet gooey soft inside under all the posturing, those are the very best kind of Alpha H, and Jane Cousins seems to be gifted in writing them perfectly.
This book will go to the top of my favorite list, along with such magnificent authors as Shelly Laurenston, G.A. Aiken and Thea Harrison, to be read over and over and loved every time. I highly recommend this story.

Funny, sweet, witty and steamy with just enough action to keep me glued to my kindle. Loved the two main characters, from the moment they meet you know they are meant to be together. Both have image problems but can see the other for who they truly are. Loved the tropical island setting, not the usual for a pnr. Laughed out loud in places and loved the way the romance blossomed. An uncomplicated easy escapist read, can't wait for the next book.

Now Dr. Nell Montgomery really believes you'll never overhear anything good about yourself after she heard her friends declare her the most boring of their classmates as they plan a reunion then her cackling matchmaking aunt and the Goddess Maat decided she was too nice for a warrior mating and needed a stuttering accountant that lived with mom. Fed up, Nell proceeds to make over her image.

At Hadleigh and Vaughn's melding ceremony, Nell sets her sights on the most inappropriate looking elite warrior. Drum's shocked that Nell chose him and finding hers is the scent that has haunted him for months but he walks away when he realizes her motive. Both Nell and Drum regret their parting but Nell goes to her reunion while Maat tries to convince Drum Nell was a bad match.

Preparing for a business meeting, Drum is mysteriously transported to Nell's reunion and wastes no time staking his claim to Nell much to the envy of both men and women. Sensing magic near Nell's cottage, Drum insists on staying for the reunion and the two laugh over shedding her good girl image until Nell finds a sticky situation or two.

Nell is tired of being the boring, help everyone, good girl and decides to bed a bad boy to change her reputation. She sets her sight on Maat Warrior, Drum at her cousin's melding ceremony, but it doesn't go quite as expected.

Then she heads to Fiji for a 10 year class reunion for med school and Drum magically appears, which turns out to be a good thing as it seems something is trying to kill her.

I love the interactions between Nell and Drum. She can more than take care of herself, even though she looks fragile and teaching that to overprotective Drum is fun to read.

“To Trap a Temptresss”, second in the 'Southern Sanctury' series is just as good as “To Woo A Warrior” - and that's the problem.
It's the same book all over again, albeit with different characters and plots.
But, when all is said and done, it's a romcom with a guaranteed HEA.
Every thinks Dr. Nell Montgomery is a prim and proper woman, mousy even!
So, in an attempt to get her reputation changed she aims her womanly wiles at Drum, an elite warrior in the Goddess Matt's guard.
She determined to get laid, and he's not going to oblige just for a one-night stand.
She doesn't think he'd ever be genuinely interested in her:- “Battling bad guys, excitement, adventure, men cowering in their boots before you, women melting at your feet overcome by your He-man magnificence. And I’m just… well me. Small town country doctor, average in practically every way. There is nothing remotely special about me, except perhaps for my shoe collection. You’d be bored within a month… no, a week.”
I was bored within 50 pages.
It's not a bad read, just too reminiscent of the first book.

Couldn't keep the stupid happy smile off my face as I read this. It was just pure fun.
Nell was a refreshing change in the heroine stakes, she's a good girl, (Who is tired of being one) but we quickly discover she is feisty and has a steel back bone. Which she is going to need when facing off against Maat Warrior - Drum. Who looks like walking death (And he's kind of tired of being judged purely on how he looks)
These two meet and sparks and witty conversation flow. Before you know it we are off to a tropical island for a med school reunion. Bad guys are after Nell and Drum steps up to protect her. This couple were just so much fun together - loved it when she finally steps up to prove she can protect herself.
Clever, fun world. Populated by relatable/likeable characters. Loved the secondary characters who popped up from book one - Darcy is quickly proving a fave, when's her book? A romance to sigh over. On to book three, out of my way.

Fun read

Everyone thinks Nell is a sweet pushover and Drum is muscle, but this opposites attract couple have more in common than others expect. This is a light fun read, more romance than anything else, but the characters have chemistry and the story is interesting

Sweet

The series continues to provide a light hearted romance with some humour. The big bad in this isn’t that complex but the couple are cute together.

To Trap A Temptress (Southern Sanctuary #2) by Jane Cousins

Nothing like hearing your family Matchmaker and Great Aunt telling someone that you're just too sweet and too nice to get a hunk of a man. Tired to being the family "goodie-two shoes" Doctor Nell Montgomery will prove them ALL wrong. She decides to pick the Biggest, Baddest and Sexiest looking guy at her cousin's Melding Ceremony.

As an elite warrior in the Goddess Maat’s guard, Drum has spent a hundred year keeping the balance of Justice and Calming Chaos. With his dark stare and snake tattoo, Drum has been chasing an alluring scent for 4 months.

I binge read 4 of the 9 books of this series back-to-back. The premise is that there's a part of Australia where a bunch of magic users live and have powered up this grid using the libidos of the happily married. Only the young ones aren't getting hitched fast enough and the grid's in a precarious situation, so they recall Great Aunt Alma the famed matchmaker and all the younguns are running scared.

First book, Alma tricks Valhalla warrior Haleigh into working for the Maat Warriors on a hiding-in-plain-sight reality show about ghost hunting.

Second book, Nell the magical physician meets her bad-boy mate and gets sucked into a courtship dispute between magical creatures.

Third book, earth witch Serena and Haleigh's lawyer brother Locke are drawn together as she evades vampire assassins.

Forth book, Siren Charisse and world-class flirt Nate take on the big bad vamp and solve her personal problems with a rock.

All of them are funny, action packed, and heartwarming. Loved every second of them and will read all the rest.

Loved this book, the world building was fun, with new creatures and dangers. The main characters were great, very likable and believable. The romance progressed realistically, which made the characters seem more like real people.
However, my complaint from the previous book remains. Editing issues, mainly fragmented sentences and incorrect or missing punctuation, which would be an easy fix, and probably only bothers the English major side of me. My main issue is still with the overuse of "Maat" and "Goddess" as either expletives or exclamations. If anything, it got worse in this book, with characters yelling out these phrases two or three times on the same page. It drove me batty. Again, i get the concept, and that's fine, but there has got to be some variation here, or just leave it out sometimes! Please!

Anyway, really enjoy this series, and I will continue, but I'll probably take a tranquilizer before I read the next one so I can cope with the "Maat" and "Goddess" explosion.

This is the second book in the series and while I think it could be read by itself, I recommend reading the books in order. This story is the perfect balance between humor, action, romance, and paranormal/fantasy. The story was lightly steamy, nothing explicit or overly descriptive. The main characters grew and changed while staying true to their described personalities. Many secondary characters appear in the first book and now this one. These other characters enrich the story and are fun to see again and again. I highly recommend this story and To Woo A Warrior, the first book in the series. I can't wait to read more books in this series!

2.5 to 3 stars, no where near as good as book 1, but not bad. Though, I did start it 3 weeks ago, and can now barely remember anything i read! But iirc, i really liked the previous book, so I'll probably still give the next one a chance!
