3.5 Heart-Palpitations, Ready for Action Stars * * * 1/2

This quick paced novella from Jan Meredith had a lot going for it. It presented the question of whether a woman can allow herself some well deserved fun without getting caught up in all the guilt.

We meet Beth Roberts who has had a quite a life journey at only 33 years. She is an accomplished RN manager of the ER of a major hospital; she has a son getting ready for college in a year and had a marriage which left scars not only on her body but on her heart.

She was a senior in high school, he, a freshman in college….all was wonderful…she got pregnant and they married. He decided the service was for him and when he came back from Afghanistan, things changed. All of the frustration he had before compounded with the PTSD causing him to lash out mentally and physically. Things happened, he died and she widowed. Being devoted to the raising of her son Drew and her career became her life.

She has had the support of her best friend, Connie. She is egging her on to take advantage of the wedding she and Drew are working. Drew is an accomplished photographer and has been working them at a young age. Beth will have a suite provide all to her lonesome as Drew is going to hang out with friends at the nearby campus of Kentucky University. Connie explains to Beth… take this moment… find the hot guy at the wedding and bed him… enjoy your life… it is time… find Mr. Lick-o- licious and have some adult fun…. Beth looks at her like she is nuts… but the seed is planted.

At the wedding, Beth over hears the gossip about a hunky Dr. Gab North, widowed and drool worthy, from the bridesmaids while helping Drew with his photos. As the event continues, she sees this Dr. and agrees…. Yup…. Definitely drool worthy….
Dr. Gabriel North has been looking around as well. He spied Beth from the get go… liked what he saw in her curvy figure and pretty face… couldn’t quite figure out the connection to the photographer, though. He had some sort of relationship to her and was he her brother or what…. He wanted to find out more because for the first time in a long time… his body was telling him he was interested. He had not been looking to play and did not do relationships… he was still having pain from losing his wife….guilt usual took care of his desires… but this time he wasn’t feeling that when he looked at Beth… this time he was feel himself… primed and ready … and hoping something could happen….

They both lock eyes… neither turns away… and the flirt games begin… a look here … and another there… and by the reception both are thinking they would like to meet each other and have a conversation. What opens the door to their actually interacting is a family member has a cardiac episode at the reception and both of them handle it together. Once the patient is sent to the hospital and is pronounced ok to the party… they both sit down and start to talk.

He gives a little flirt… she responds and then they give into the sparks and kiss… both agree to go for a “drink”. During their time at a romantic bar… more revealing conversation… more kissing and then the move to her hotel. Beth has made the decision to have her one night stand… but she states very clearly to Gab… this is one night- no commitments-no continuing- just this time only. Gab agrees with his requirement… that it is real, feeling, and strong; everything they want for that one night. Deal done.

When this tale worked… it really worked. When there were details which distracted, unfortunately, they caused real issues for me.

The good- Jan Meredith knows how to write sexy…. I am talking hot, steamy, wish-it-were-you sexy. Her scenes with Beth and Gab raised the bar in the novella… it was like I was reading one story and then switch…. the real writing began; that is how great those scenes were. She also combined intimate telling and sharing between the Dr. and Beth, giving us insight to why they were who they were and made them likeable and real. I felt the story went to another level once she got to where she really wanted to go.

The biggest issue I had with this was from the beginning and it threw me off for most of the story. If Beth’s son is to be senior in High School he is 17. If Beth is 33 as stated then she was 16 when she gave birth to Drew, meaning she was 15 or 16 when pregnant. To have her so young and then discuss empty nest… just was hard to handle. I didn’t feel the numbers worked with how she presented them causing it to linger throughout the story for me. I understood the character was created to be very appealing yet had lived a life. If she had made her a little bit older it wouldn’t have diminished the woman’s hotness factor and Dr. Gab could have still been in his late thirties. Also changing the ages would not have deterred the interest for any of her demographics, in my opinion.

Over all, this is a quick, hot and very satisfying read with no declarations of instant love, instead we get people who have lived lives, met and are open to possibilities… and isn’t really what all of us want… the possibility to have just that.

I’ve been hard for you since the moment I first saw you. I want you easy and slow, hard and fast.” His gaze dropped to her mouth, the rough pad of his thumb skimmed over her bottom lip, and what he said next took her breath away. “I want to feel you come around my cock and against my mouth, and more than anything, I want to feel you swallow me deeper than I’ve ever been swallowed before. I want you on your back, straddling my hips, and on your hands and knees. It can be sweet and innocent or I can flat out fuck you until you can’t walk if that’s the way you want it, but there will be nothing pure or simple about it. Are we agreed?”

The Entangled Brazen collection is one of my favorites. While I like some of the stories better than others, I appreciate the dependability and consistency of the Brazen books. They all seem to have good writing along with a nice steam level. Playing Doctor was no different and actually was one of my favorite Brazen books I've read lately. While, there wasn't alot to work with because of the novella length of the book, everything was well paced. I liked both characters and the dirty talk was a nice and very welcome surprise. I'm hoping Jan Meredith is going to another Tessa Bailey when it comes to the dirty talking heros. Since this is the first book from the author, it's too early to tell. A girl can hope though =)

If a quick injection of hot and sexy romance is what you seek, then Playing Doctor is just that. With much of what is found in a full length Brazen offering, it was a fabulously sexy easy-read with realistic characters; think of a very low-angst episode of Greys Anatomy with a doctor who looks like Thor and you aren't far off the mark.

Gabriel North is a Doctor, Beth Roberts a Nurse, but their field of work isn't the only thing they have in common. They're a little older, have pasts and know what they want and when their paths cross at a wedding, it leads to a night of more. And Gabe is very sexy in that sigh-worthy way;

"I want you to now you're safe with me. I've been hard for you since the moment I first saw you. I want you easy and slow, hard and fast"

description

But it's deeper than a one-night stand and this couple open up to one another, bringing the heartfelt to the hot. I could have happily read a full length novel as I loved Gabe and Beth as they had the perfect chemistry, but in fairness their journey is suited to a novella and didn't actually need to be any more. I lost myself for a couple of hours in the passion, it's left me with a happy smile on my face and is a book I'd recommend.

Okay, so I can't get the goofy grin off my face after finishing Playing Doctor. Because, damn, *this* is how you write a novella. I loved everything about it. The characters, the set up, the scorching hot sex scenes ::shivers::, the growth both Beth and Gabe experienced. All of it. Meredith knocked it out of the park and has an instant fan.

The gist is that a chance encounter at a wedding, some serious sparks and the words of Beth's best friend still whispering through her mind-- that she needs to let go and live a little-- lead to an agreement of one night of nekkid sweaty good times for Gabe and Beth. Then they'll part ways and never see each other again. Mmmhmm.

Gabe and Beth were both great characters. They're successful, caring, funny, gorgeous and have nice depth to them. Even though it's a novella and a chuck of the time is spent during their 'one night' with each other you really get to know them and what makes them tick. They're good people and just a bit damaged from losses they've each experienced the last few years. They've both shut themselves off in a way from life and it was amazing seeing them open up and share their fears with each other. To actually grow and help each other let go of the past just a little bit. I was just really impressed with them both. They were a nice balance of serious and just...fun.
Gabe blew out a breath and gave the muscle car one last covetous look. Man, he'd love to get behind all that power just once. As if reading his mind, Beth grinned, held out her hand and offered him a set of keys with a small tag on the ring that read, My foot and your ass need to meet. Her brow quirked. "Would you like to drive mine?"

"Oh yeah." They exchanged keys.

"I'm betting you know how to handle a stick."

"I've never had any complaints." He tossed the keys in his hand. The pink stain on her cheeks acknowledged the sexual innuendo. The flash of heat in her eyes said she was interested. Yeah, things were looking up.

"He likes a soft foot on the clutch and a heavy one on the gas." Her voice was a little breathy, an octave lower than usual. He might not make it through the drink.

"I'll be gentle."

She smoothed her hand over the fender, but her eyes remained steady on his. "Don't be, he likes it rough."

Oh, fuck yeah.

Okay. Aaannnd the sexy. Holy hell. These two steamed it right the hell up and it was amazing! I wasn't expecting it at all. The sex scenes were just scorching hot but they also had that incredible emotional element to them too. Yeah, it was supposed to all be just one night of nekkid fun together but right from the start you could tell it wasn't going to come even remotely close to that. It never gets *too* out there or wild but damn it was down to your toes make you tingle good.

Meredith absolutely nailed creating a feel good, heat you up, make you believe in true love romance. While the ending wasn't a complete shock and I saw it coming it was just perfect. It fit them, didn't go too far into the unbelievable and just left me smiling and happy for these two. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for everything she writes in the future. There were some eye catching secondary characters I can't wait to see more of.

I was given a copy of Playing Doctor in exchange for an honest review.

As a reader and reviewer, I’m always excited when I find a new author (even if they’re just new to me) that I can share with fellow readers. So, if you haven’t met her yet, let me introduce you to Jan Meredith, and her debut short story, Playing Doctor. You’re gonna love this one!

Beth Roberts, a sexy widowed ER nurse, meets Gabriel North, a sexy widowed ER doctor. Both are harboring guilt over the loss of their spouses, and both have gone to great lengths to avoid any attachments since their respective deaths. Gabriel is a groomsman at his friend’s wedding where Beth is doing a labor of love working as the photographer’s assistant for her son. The attraction between Gabriel and Beth is immediate and palpable. Hey, it’s just one night, right?

“…I agree with the no romance, no relationship, no complications part and that we’re considering consensual – emphasis on the sensual – sex.”

Right…

I really enjoyed Playing Doctor. The characters are mature and smart. They know what they want, they know what they’re both afraid of, and they don’t play games. Their conversations are authentic and believable. The ending left me wanting a little bit more, but I did mention that this is a short story, didn’t’ I? So, that leaves me hoping for another encounter between the good doctor and nurse.

Nice to meet you, Ms. Meredith!

Playing Doctor earns five sexy stars!

4.5 STARS

I can’t help but appreciate it when two people who have lost the love of their life finds that spark again. I really love it when they aren’t looking and it happens by chance and it takes them both off guard. Jan Meredith did a great job of exploring this in her book Playing Doctor. I loved the rush of excitement, the thrill of the chase, the “eye-flirting”, and the unquestionable lust that threw two people together for one night.

Despite the fact that the bulk of this story takes place in one night I was thrilled with the character development and background story we got on both of the main characters. Beth and Gabriel have suffered blows in their personal lives so the fact that they feel comfortable with one another to share some of their most devastating moments with one another is huge. They don’t shy away from the hard topics; they meet them head on and tackle them. I give Gabe a lot of credit for giving Beth the space she needed but for also making a move that would either force her hand or be the biggest mistake in his life.

This story is novella length and while it ends with a happy for now I’ll admit I would love to see where the relationship takes these two. I’m hoping the author will eventually write stories for Connie or Dew so we get a follow up on how Beth and Gabe are doing. Playing Doctor is a great reminder of that rush of first lust that leads to so much more and how it can happen when you least expect it. I loved every minute of this book and can’t wait to see what author Jan Meredith comes up with next!

What a fun, sexy romance story. Playing Doctor by Jan Meredith is quite steamy and passionate. How the author can turn something like a one night stand into a meaningful, romantic first date where souls are bared is fantastic. I am not usually a fan of one night stand books because I like a relationship to build and develop, but this one worked.

Beth Roberts is at a time in her life when she needs to move on from her past and live a little. Her son is going off to college in less than a year and she will be on her own. Gabe North has thrown himself into his work in an effort not to think about his past, but it is time for him to move on as well. Innocently, Beth and Gabe meet at a wedding, over a medical emergency, no less and it is only the beginning of a passionate and fun-filled night for both of them.

Jan does a really nice job developing both Beth and Gabe, especially given the length of the story. The plot seems feasible and it flowed well. The conversation between Gabe and Beth was light and filled with humor but also was heart wrenching and deep at times. It was in those times that you could see the two of them come together emotionally and find a common bond. The intimate scenes were very steamy but also showed the respect that Gabe had for Beth and the little fissures of love that was growing between the two of them. If you are looking for a hot contemporary romance that has well developed characters, a great story and sizzling passion, I recommend you try Playing Doctor.

Playing Doctor is definitely a case of good things coming in small packages. The story
here, and there is quite a story, is just as full of love, loss, and sizzling passion as some of its lengthier contemporaries.

Beth Roberts is no stranger to the specter of loss. After losing both her husband and unborn child to violence; she has made the lonlieness and guilt that haunt her, constant companions.
Likewise, Dr. Gabriel North suffers with the guilt for the negligence that he believes caused the death of his wife, some two years earlier.

So when these two broken souls meet at a wedding where Beth's college bound son has been hired as a photographer, and Gabriel stands as part of the wedding party; neither has the slightest clue how their chance meeting will both open their battered hearts and change their lives.

This book is just the escape that any harried mind needs from the rush and stress of everyday. Be warned however, though there may be passion hot enough to singe the eyebrows; there are no white knights or swooning maidens to be found.
The story found here is one of two strong and capable people coming together in a passionate and cathartic way.
This is not to say that there is no "happily ever after," on the contrary. The bow on this tale is tied in such a romantic fashion that Nicholas Sparks would be proud. - See more at: http://www.wtfareyoureading.com/2013/...

This delightfully steamy romance is the story of Beth and Gabe. Meeting at a wedding the sparks fly between them upon first glance. Both have suffered tragic losses and a one night stand is all they will commit too - until it's time to part and suddenly things don't seem so simple anymore.

I loved this story! I really enjoyed both the male and female characters. Beth is warm and friendly, a proud mother to her talented photographer son and a dedicated hospital employee. She works hard and is good at her job, but takes no time for her personal life. Gabe is similarly devoted to his job as an ER physician and has no plans to include a permanent female in his life. He's a steadfast and loyal friend, a handsome man who catches many a female eye. When he spots Beth at his friend's wedding, he is instantly attracted to her, and vice versa. The sexual chemistry between them is explosive and the love scenes are steamy and well written.

The overall tone of the story is lighthearted and fun, with a few emotional moments thrown into the mix to make the characters more believable and attractive to the reader. For a novella, the background and setting was well established and the plot was unique and enjoyable. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author! 5 steamy stars!

This is a hot and steamy novella with a romance that sizzles. Gabe is lickolicious but is also sweet and vulnerable and incidentally a great doctor. Only trouble is, due to his guilt over his wife's death, he isn't available for anything lasting which makes it a damn shame in the eyes of the entire nursing contingent at the wedding.

Beth has her own reasons for steering clear of commitment. She has a son in the last year of school and her first marriage ended tragically. But with the encouragement of her friend, and the motivation of the most hunky piece of man flesh she's seen in a while, she might make an exception for tonight. Just tonight.

The relationship develops very quickly with both Beth and Gabe giving more of themselves than they expected during their one night stand. It becomes very clear they have more than just chemistry. How they deal with it and what happens next makes for an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending.

This book was sizzling hot!
This author is one to watch. The writing is exact and clean, yet filled with beautiful descriptions and prose that make you feel you are right there in the book. Her characters are intriguing and colorful as they grow and move beyond their past hurts. The sex scenes (and there were plenty) sizzled with chemistry and nearly burnt up the page.

My only complaint ... it ended! It should have gone on for another few hundred pages. I want to continue to see this couple as they journey through their lives together. Give us more!

A short story about new love and second chances.

Although it's quite short, it has nicely developed main characters, a strong heroine ( one of my favorites), steamy hot scenes *cough* bathtub *cough* and I would say an unexpected ending.
This story is worth a read - it won't take longer than 1 hour and it would be an hour well spent.

This was a very quick and easy read. It was mostly about the hook up, but went somewhat deeply into each main character's back ground. I thought Gabe was kinda a jerk to keep pushing Beth as much as he did, since he knew the horrors in her past. Beth was a very strong heroine, but a slightly fearful one as well. All in all, a good read to get my mind off things!

Flaunt is Entangled Publishing’s new sexy, novella imprint. Sometimes a novella is all you need so I jumped at the chance to review a few of the new releases.

Beth Roberts hasn’t had any kind of a love life. When her husband died 4 years ago she focused on her career and raising her son. Now that her son, Drew, is heading off to college, Beth realizes that her life will be empty once Drew is gone. She hasn’t been in a relationship since her husband and doesn’t necessarily want to be in a relationship but she does miss the touch of a man.

Dr. Gabriel North is every woman’s wet dream. Handsome, sexy, successful, Gabe is a great catch. But Gabe is still filled with guilt about his wife’s death. He’s not looking for a relationship. But when he sets his eyes on Beth at his friend’s wedding reception, he realizes that he wouldn’t mind participating in some bed aerobics. Gabe and Beth are gun-shy about relationships but the attraction between them is strong. They agree to a one-night stand but will one night be enough?

I liked that the characters are older and established. They both have their own careers; Beth is a nurse and Gabe is a doctor. I have to say that figuring out Beth’s age was confusing. I’m assuming her son is 17/18 since he’s getting ready to graduate. Beth’s husband was older than her but not more than a year. Beth got pregnant while in college. But in the beginning of the story, Beth’s age was mentioned as her being 33. So that means she had her son when she was 16. It’s feasible that she could be a freshman in college at the age of 16 but the numbers not adding up bothered me especially when Beth kept talking about her son leaving the nest. Anyway…

Playing Doctor was a quick sexy read. I like Gabe and Beth. There were no games to be played. They were both upfront about what they were looking for. The ending is a Happy For Now which works for me. Gabe and Beth didn’t spend enough time together for there to be any declarations of love.

* Received ARC for an honest review

The story was such a great read. It had heart and incredible chemistry. The characters were well developed and believable. I had a hard time putting this one down once I starting reading it.

The story revolves around Beth Roberts who is a nurse administrator who is a widow. However, her marriage had been tumultuous and abusive. She now has a son getting ready to go off to college. Her son, a budding photographer, was hired to take pictures at a wedding and Beth went along to help him. She has shied away from relationships with men because of her marriage. She wants to be with someone she is attracted to but will not consider getting into a relationship due to everything she has gone through.

Gabriel North is a doctor who has his own share of heartache. His wife died two years earlier and he still blames himself for not being able to see she was ill. He is much sought after by the women in his community but has not felt drawn to anyone. He is at the wedding as a guest.

Beth notice Gabriel and Gabriel notices Beth. They both find the other one attractive. However, a medical emergency throws these two together.

What a loved about this story is that it was about two adults, with lots of baggage. Both characters were developed and we got to know them before they meet. Both went into this fling with their eyes wide open. There was no deceit. The author is great at letting us know who these characters are. I cared what happened to them individually and as a couple. Also, the chemistry was killer! It burnt up the pages. Beth and Gabriel actually talked to each other. I have read so many stories that say "they talked and got to know each other" and that means they have a connection. In Playing Doctor, we hear their conversations and feel part of the story. I am very happy with this story and definitely give it a big thumbs up!

This book is just what the doctor ordered or should I say bookworm ordered Jan Meredith takes you on a whirl wind of utter sexiness.

One night I all Beth Roberts needs or is it....

When one of Beth Roberts fellow RN predicts that she will meet a tall, ripped, and totally lick-able stranger who will fulfil her every desire, she shrugs it all off. Given her tragic past and love life, Beth has no time or desire to become involved with any one again. But fate has other plans when she places the handsome doctor with the most devilish smile, she meets him at the wedding she is at helping her son, Will the chemistry exploding between them break through her walls?

Dr. Gabriel North has spent most of the last two years blaming himself for his wife’s untimely death. Having finally battled his way through all of the guilt and emotions he is finally able too overcome his inner demons, he is ready to move on. When he meets a beautiful nurse at his friend’s wedding, the attraction is instant and strong, Gabriel wastes no time at all in perusing her. One night with this amazing woman who makes him feel all alive and worthwhile will never be enough,

But can he gain Beth’s trust? this is sure going to take much more than just seduction…

What a fantastic read it has everything you want and more and in a novella that's saying something, Jan Meredith is a brilliant writer she sure knows how too steam up your screens and warm your heart.

The characters are all very well written and stand out in the ways they should like Gabriel I felt his pain when he talked about his wife and his loss but that made him more human more real and loveable I like male characters too show there emotions. Now Beth she is a complicated lady she has allot of pain well heartbreak and these walls she has built well there cracking for the lovely dishy Doctor.

Fantastic read and one for you all too add to your TBR list.

I met Jan in an author giveaway meeting. It was a pleasure to meet her. And an even bigger surprise to win a book from her. (there may be spoilers)
I read the back of the book and was hooked. Then I opened the novel up and started to read. We meet the main character Beth and learn about her. Seems like a nice lady, with a saddening past. Then we head to the wedding, where Drew is taking pictures. Of course we are wondering if Beth will meet a Lick-o-licious man, that her best friend Connie spoke of. At the wedding we hear of the bridal party talking about a Dr. who is McDreamy like. And of course Beth is at the wedding to assist her son, Drew, so doesn't think much of it.
When we finally meet this man, Dr, North, he is absolutely what the bridal party described. Hot and then some! Beth and Gage, end up flirting across the room. Now Gage, had not thought about women in a more that once a night kind of thing, but he ends seeing Beth in a new light and wanting more. He'd lost his wife a couple years ago and always blamed himself. So he was never able to move on.
One of Gages, patients end up pushing himself too far, resulting in Beth trying to bring the man back to life, when he suffers a heart attack. Gage, happens to have a diphibulator in his car and was fearing his patient might pushed it. They finally connect after the patients heart comes back and is being pulled away by the paramedic's.
This novel is fast paces, and straight to the point. They sit at the table getting to know each other before heading out for a drink, then heading back to her hotel. They agree to one night. And what a night. They make love many, many times and its all detailed very well! This novel is great for a night alone. Because Dr. Lick-o-Licious does things every woman could imagine.
There is heart, passion, a story and many well detailed scenes to keep you reading!
An amazing read!

Playing Doctor is slightly different than the other romance novellas I've been reading lately. It still follows that same tried and true format of two people not looking for love who hook up, and then end up finding love anyway. But it's usually just sex followed by a happily ever after. Beth and Gabe actually have meaningful conversations between bouts of sex, and then discuss possible problems their relationship could face and come up with potential solutions. Basically, the characters seem much more mature and believable. They both work in the medical field, and meet at a wedding when another guest collapses. From there they head back to Beth's room to act upon their attraction (several times) and get to know each other before heading back to their regularly scheduled lives.

I kind of loved Gabe. He gives this epic, sexy speech before he follows Beth to her room, and damn! That man knows how to talk. They pretty much do everything, all over the hotel room, and do some emotional bonding in the Jacuzzi tub. Then sadly, they part ways. But Gabe isn't ready to let her go and finds a way for them to be together. They'll face some hurdles since what they're doing tends to be frowned upon, but I think they'll be fine. Playing Doctor also doesn't have any declarations of love, which was great, since Beth and Gabe had only known each other for a night. It ends with them starting what looks like a promising relationship.

First of all, I must thank the author for the review copy. I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and it in no way swayed my opinion.

From the first time I read the synopsis, I was certain that this was going to be a fantastic read. I did expect it to be a bit longer, but Ms. Meredith wrote this book perfectly. It was all steamy bits and attraction from the start.

It was full of emotions, both characters scarred from past experiences, but not broken! Both Beth and Gabe were strong characters but didn't butt heads (just other parts), and had great chemistry.

I enjoyed reading this book. My prediction about the book being good just from reading the synopsis was correct. Jan Meredith was talented, and she weaved together a story I couldn't put down. I wished it was longer, and I hope that she writes more about them, and the amazing secondary characters!

Its not often in a novella like this that attention (good attention) is drawn to secondary characters, but it happened here! I do plan on checking out more works by this author, and I'm suggesting this book and her writing to anyone who cares to listen!

Sorry this review is so short, but seriously, there really isn't much to say about this book other than the fact that it just sucks you in and makes you fan yourself at the same time! Thanks so much Jan Meredith for contacting me about reading your book, because it made my day and I look forward to re-reading again and again in the future and showing it off on my blog and just running my mouth about it. Because it was AWESOME.

HOT Doctor Alert!!!

So, recently I've been thinking that I haven't read a romance with a doctor hero in while. This novella was the perfect remedy and exactly what I was looking for! Not only was Playing Doctor a feel-good romance, but it was also unexpectedly funny and scorching HOT!!! I was thoroughly impressed!

After tossing flirty, butterfly-producing glances at each other at a wedding, Beth and Dr. Gabriel North officially meet under urgent circumstances. Their chemistry is established right away which leads to a no-strings-attached hook-up. Really, I had no idea how steamy this story was going to get. This is the point where I insert the “HOT Doctor Alert” flashing sign! These two are compatible and insatiable together!

One of the aspects I loved about this story is that the author takes the time to flesh out a true communicating relationship for Beth and Gabriel. I loved how they shared parts of their lives during tender moments and afterward as they try to sort things out. That just made it more realistic for me.

Beth and Gabriel are both in their thirties, well established in their careers and widowed, so I just adored how these two get a second chance at love. Playing Doctor is fun, sexy, and in the words of Beth's best friend, a “lick-o-licious” quick read.

Sweet, spicy and a whole lot of sexy. Review to come

This review also appears on my blog All The Bookish Love

Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own

Lick-o-licious.
Now that might be my new favourite word. Jan Meredith sure knows how to put a girl in the mood for dressing up as a sexy nurse and playing doctor. And boy, were there some very sexy cases of playing doctor in this story.
Beth Roberts has been through more than her fair share of trauma, losing both the husband she loved and the child growing inside her to abuse. She’s wary of letting loose and having some fun. But following the advice of her best friend, she decides to go for it when she’s out of town for the weekend. And who wouldn’t let loose when you meet Dr Gabriel North? Yowza!
A tortured soul, a man who still feels guilty for the death of his wife, it’s clear to all that the love he had for his deceased wife still ran deep in his veins. But as he sees Beth, he can’t take his eyes off of her and this is where things start to get interesting.
This is a beautiful story filled with passion and sexiness. It differed from the other novellas by pulling the reader in and taking them on a short, yet tumultuous journey. The only thing wrong with it , is that it was so short.

I absolutely loved this book! So much so that I read it in two nights - two sleep deprived nights, but it was well worth it. I couldn't put the book down!

The characters are solid and feel very "real". I could sympathize with both the heroine (Beth Roberts) and the sexy hero (Dr. Gabriel North). And don't forget Beth's best friend Connie that "predicts" the one-night stand in a very humorous and enjoyable way. The situation is fun and flirty, but the conflict is very strong. The inner conflict of both hero and heroine are equally tormented. With Beth in an abusive marriage in the past, and Dr. North feeling responsible for missing the signs of his late wife's death. Beth is a strong, independent woman that knows what she wants in and out of the bedroom. I loved her strong personality and ability to just be free for one night. As for Dr. North, well he's the McDreamy of the book world. The sex scenes are more than super hot!

The ending doesn't disappoint. The entire book, although short packs a real punch for a story. It has everything and I found myself on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I was laughing through parts and then crying. It is a wonderful read. I would strongly recommend anyone that is looking for a hot read with strong characters (and a hot hero) to read this book.

This was the first time reading this author and this was a drink of yummilicious. I was in need of a really good read that I could down quickly and this delivered that a satisfying after glow. Beth is busy with her career and giving her up and coming son a hand with his photography whom people have commissioned to cover they weddings and such. While waiting with the wedding party while her son did pre wedding shots she hears all about the yummy new doctor Gabriel North who by all their accounts is one fine specimen. Since she doesn't do serious when she helps with a emergency that happens at the wedding she takes him up on his offer of after it going somewhere. This author now has you going along with two people who by their accounts do not do emotions, funny thing about those that is when stuff like that gets you into them hot and fast. This author takes you there fast and slick with them on their one night with different consequences then either bargained for or even hoped for.The author gives you a splendid one night with them that they do not forget and neither will you. How she takes you after that is one fine journey with more than satisfactory conclusion for them and me the reader. Since this was a oh so delicious sip of what this author can offer in romance I was glad I tasted and would like more of hers also.

Playing Doctor indeed! This was an emotional, beautiful, sexy novella that hits you in all the right places. Both Beth Roberts and Dr. Gabriel North has had horrible and tragic love lives. Beth has no desire to have that emotional connection again, and Gabriel is still grieving and blaming himself for his wife's death. Beth is an RN and Gabriel North is a doctor. What a perfect match for sure. There was that instant connection between the two that had me grinning from ear to ear.

When all the flirting and the light touches are out of the way, they decide on one night, and one night only of just sex! Of course that ALWAYS works out, what a fantastic plan. After that one night and realizing that they have more and common than they thought things start getting real.

Feeling and thoughts that once lay dormant came to life, and the possibilities of new love came back in to the picture. These two both thought they were broken, but when they have each other they found they could heal and live again.

Not only was this an emotional read for me, it was a fun, sexy read as well. This was a well done novella, and it was one of the few that I wish went on longer.

4 stars - Oh yes, this is a quickie - one you will enjoy.

If you are looking for that quick sexy read where you are fanning yourself even though your house is cold, then this is the one you should pick up. I've had some pretty good luck with novellas lately and this one is no exception. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed the time I had with them. Sexy doctor who feels guilty that he didn't save his wife and the sexy nurse who should have walked away from her abusive husband make a great connection. They are just what the other needs to heal and move on.

I will admit to loving the idea of two people meeting each other and being just want the other needs to move on from a difficult circumstance, but this one did not feel contrived. Both from the medical field, they meet at a wedding. Both in need of moving on after death has touched their lives. Both unwilling to move on until they experience each other. It was sweet. It was hot. It was just what I needed.

Don't miss this one if you're looking for hot and sexy with a side of great characters!

Playing Doctor

I really enjoyed this story! It was hot, funny sexy and believable. My only request is that I wish it was longer and I could see how it all played out , but I still enjoyed it immensely.
Beth Roberts has had terrible luck with love. She has become the butt of many jokes at work with her fellow nurses. She has come to the conclusion that she has no desire to become involved with anyone in the near future. She does think that maybe a one night stand may be just what she needs. She could have never expected to meet someone at a wedding during a medical emergency.
Dr. Gabe North has been a widower for two years and still blames himself for not seeing the signs of his wife's illness. He treats his guilt with meaningless relationships and one night stands. He has no idea a friend's wedding may just put an end to all of that. How could one night with a woman make him feel so alive again.

I am sad the book was just a novella! It was great! The author does a great job getting you into the story and the charters quickly and sets up the steamy hot love~lust that unfolds.
Beth, a single widowed mother of a soon to be high school graduates tags along with her son to be his assistant at a photo shoot of a wedding. Her best friend jokingly for sees a gorgeous man in her future to give her more than resumes and paper work to do on her out of town wedding with her son.
Little did they know the gorgeous man was real! They saw each other and the heat started burning before proper introductions could of been made. What turned out to be a weekend out of town helping her son, turned out to be more... and well... no spoilers here! Go buy the book and find out what the gorgeous man and Beth encounters!
As a single mother to 4 kids...I really hope I meet a 'lick-o-licious' guy my self!

4 stars...only because its a short story!

I LOVE Brazen authors and Entangled Publishing. I've been branching out into some of their other lines as well. If you haven't read any Entangled books...just do it, you won't be sorry.

Playing Doctor is a novella about Beth and her journey to rediscovering herself. Pregnant at 17, married young, widowed, and a boatcrap of stuff in between.

Beth's son Drew is an aspiring photographer who is hired to take pictures at a wedding and Beth goes along to assist. This is where she meets Dr. Gabriel North. Let the sparks begin!!!

This is an easy enjoyable read with some heartbreaking moments (for me anyway), some laughter, some frustration, some pretty hot sex, and some great characters.

I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.

Thanks Jan for taking me on a really good journey.

I re-read this book in 2015, and had liked it. Its simple, sweet, angst-free and sexy.

I had enjoyed reading it, its comforting this book.

I agreed with my earlier review though that there could be more. Author has potential and will look out for her books in the future.

While I was reading the book, I have the constant craving of looking for more, wanting more.

The author skim through issues superficially, sex scene was not scorching. Character development is insufficient, the character could have gone just a little bit further to make them alive. as a result, the characters seem flat and hard to like.

The plots followed the same formula like hundreds of such books in this genre. Un-original...
