Chloe Novak may be the world’s clumsiest cat shifter; in fact, she’s the only panther she’s ever heard of that doesn’t land on its feet. She may hide her looks behind her glasses, lumpy cardigans, and stacks of books. However, she’s got her beautifully creaky old house and her university job, and she’s content…until billionaire panther shifter Kenneth Chamberlin strides through her office door with an offer she literally can’t refuse, if she ever wants to see her grandmother alive again. The problem is, the Chamberlin family are the ones who ruined her family’s life and reputation – and the sinfully handsome Kenneth makes her tingle in all the right places. How can she work with him in close quarters and keep her heart and her sanity intact?
Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.
Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).
When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.
Second installment in the Shifters, Inc series featuring panther shapeshifters Kenneth Chamberlin & Chloe Novak.
The Hatfields & McCoys have nothing on the ongoing feud between the Chamberlins and Novaks, two panther shapeshifter families, so it's no surprise that Chloe wants nothing to do with Kenneth Chamberlain.
The past is resurrected when Kenneth persistently attempts to hire Chloe for some sort of secret project, finally resorting to blackmail to make it happen. Maybe it won't be too bad if it gives her the opportunity to enact a little payback for his ancestors actions of the past.
I seriously had to check if this author is the same one who penned The Alpha Claims A Mate. I don't know what happened but I really hope the author sticks to this style of writing as I really loved this one and will be reading more from her and this series.
This was a paranormal read that has a hint of edgy darkness and ancient mythology that worked well together. I love a book that is multi faceted that grabs me from the start to put aside any real life obligations to get to the climatic end scene reveal. The suspense/mystery subplot is very well done as it teased me throughout the story without giving away any of the substance of the mystery itself. My only issue is that when things DID start to play out it was a little rushed so I couldn't savor the delicious and devious author's work as much as I would have liked. Again, a total turnabout from the last book I read by this author.
As to the romantic elements between Kenneth and Chloe. Totally got the sexual tension, snarky play between the two that eventually culminated in some deliciously HAWT adult content scenes. The addition of humor to the mix did have me laughing out loud, scaring my beloved pet, as girl power reigned. Love us girls making those alpha men work for it.....
I also have to do a shout out about the secondary characters in this book. Heath, Bobbi, Henry, Jax, Dominick, Karesh, Reginald, Pixie, Alfonse, Tyler, and others each had unique individual personalities that blended well in the world building and story without distracting from the main plot or featured couple. A total plus to the world building in this series. Personally I'd like to start a petition to see more of Pixie and Reginald (inside joke here) as they made one heck of a couple and totally loved them. Author please take note of this as I don't want this book to be the end of either of them, but particularly Pixie...
My issues were more that the scene cuts were too abrupt and compartmentalized. The best way I can comment on this without spoiler potential is that I never knew where and what time frame I'd land in chapter to chapter so it took me a while to get up to speed at times. I also had an issue with Chloe's 'date' in the ball scene. That was left in a limbo state that irritated me as I felt it needed to be addressed to have closure as friends should always stay true and loyal to the end...
In this book I gained an education into ancient Sumerian culture, experienced a HAWT snarky romance between shapeshifters, and got my fix for suspense/mystery all in one. Definitely have become of fan of this series and look forward to the next installment. Did I happen to mention I hope it's Pixie? :D
Song Choice: "Explosions" by Ellie Goulding, "Comsic Love" by Florence + the Machine
First Thoughts: So I saw that the first book in this series was free, i read the synopsis and was like YES this is what i want to read, this has been hiding from me FAR TOO long. Wellll I read the second books synopsis because i was curious, I couldn't help myself. Anywhoooos, I could not resist the temptation of a nerdy, clumsy, cat-shifter. There was no way in hell I could say no to that soooooo I snagged it and ran. *teehee* Good decision!!! Granted I still have yet to read the first book (even though I have finished this one AND the third one - in one day) Yeah that is insane for me by the way. I still think people should read the first one, first. First off its free, also gives you I am certain more of a background on Kenneth, and the other characters because i went into this thinking it would be strictly Kenneth and Chloe's POVs (i was wrong)
Thoughts on Plot: I really thought this was unique and interesting. I am a HUGE HUGE HUGEEEEE paranormal fan, and granted sometimes i get a little more than worried that the book is going to be more sex and plot and I love paranormal for its plot. So while this had the heat i do desire as well it wasn't all about that. There were so many twist in this book that i didn't see coming a mile and half or so away maybe its because i didn't start out with the first book so i was new to the world but i loved it all the same. This was really, really actually quite amazing. I loved the adventure, the romance, the steaminess, the twisties and the turnies. I think there were a few things in this book that made me stop and go huh - writing wise but i am thinking that was heavier in the third book. I will get to that soon. Otherwise I like the mystery of this one. It was overall a fun, easy, fantastic read.
Characters:
Kenneth: I think he was interesting, that sexy alpha werecat hehe. I actually appreciated him a lot because he was a playboy before hand he knew that, she - Chloe - knew that but he wasn't afraid to act on his feelings. He wasn't going to back down not for anything. But better yet he learned quickly that not all girls are the same, and that sometimes some need to be won over in very different ways and i loved that. Absolutely loved their relationship wasn't the standard sorts.
Chloe: Am i just sadistic enough of person that I wanted her to be more clumsy? i mean she was really clumsy and it showed but i wanted to see more of it. She was an interesting character, not a run of the mill sort and i really did love that. She was a pretty awesome character unfortunately Pixie captured my heart and stole it ;) OOOOOH THE JOKE THAT WAS JUST MADE okay sorry but no i really did like her and i thought she was an awesome character
The ending: It was goooood I think their story came to a conclusion and that was nice but it was open to so much more yays!
This read just didn't work for me. The whole "fated mate" thing ran its course in previous reads from this series. The only part I enjoyed in this read were updates on Pixie. Nothing else in this book held my attention. Poor character development. The plot never appealed to me.
His Purrfect Mate was recommended to me as being in the same category as Shelley Laurenston and Eve Langlais as far as humor, I don't think that it quite lived up to that but there were glimmers in the supporting cast. And really it was that supporting cast which made this for me. I like the idea of Shifters Inc. I thought the scenes there were pretty cute and I am hoping for more between the adversarial human, Pixie, and the lion shifter.
The main romance - and I may lose my shifter romance fan card for this comment - was just a bit too insta-mate for me. I ended up enjoying this but didn't end up excited enough about this to go back and read the previous books.
This book adds another level to the Shifters Inc series. There are bad guys, and then there are Bad Guys, and there is that perfect alpha male to save the day. I enjoyed getting to see two different angles to the story, and the HEA was one for the history books. This book is perfect for the weekend and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
I just can't put on hand on it but I didn't like this book as much as the first book. But I absolutely loved Kenneth Chamberlin, owner of Shifters Inc and a billionaire panther Shifter. When a couple of his properties are broken into and some statues are stolen from an extensive collection; He has to find out who has taken them and what's so special about those particle pieces. Chloe Novak is a university expert and the clumsiest cat Shifter. She is the only Shifter that she knows of that doesn't land on her feet. She hides her looks behind glasses, lumpy cardigans and stacks of books 📚. Kenneth wants to hire expert Chloe to examine his collection. Unfortunately their families has history, a long standing feud that put their instant attraction to each other in peril. And that's when their journey begins. And what a wonderful story it is. I personally believe the sides stories that overwhelm the romance between Kenneth and Chloe. It was hilarious reading about Jax trying to keep Bobbi safe. Oh and the twist of their grandparents being gated mates was so sweet. Also the little Prince Cheetah (Reggie) was a complete brat with his crocodile nanny. Demons where added to the mix that gave it that sinister kick. I think Pixie was the icing on the cake 🎂. She was so feisty and so hilariously. I would love more of her. I want more of the secondary characters like Heath, Bobbi, Henry, Jax, Dominick, Alfonso, Pixie, Tyler, Reginald and others each had their unique individual personalities that blended well in this world 🌎 without distracting from the story/plot. Looking forward to next book 📚
No hardship to reread about this bunch of crazy people. Have owned this for ages and have posted a review from the back of the book which is missing. Take a group of madcap shifters and humans, throw in some demons, ancient family drama and you get one hell of a good story. If this had been proofread properly it would have been an easy 5 stars but even the ending line is incorrect. (“You think I should let Jax come with?”) Really not a good way to end a book.
Love the story, it was like 2 stories happening at the same time. It had Competition between guys and gals detectives, with a young stowaway wanting to be part of the team. Trying to prevent a Demons from taking over that came from archaeologist dig and stolen and let loose. And the beat goes on to next story of the series.
This is the second installment in the Shifters, Inc. series. I enjoyed the fact that the characters from the first story are back in the series with significant roles. This story had more plot twists than the first which made the story quite entertaining. An enjoyable read.
Adventure, shifters, great plots within plots, and all with witty dialogue and snarky personalities. A real page turner, with plot twist that just may shock you.
The Premise Chloe Novak’s a clumsy cat shifter who hides her looks behind her glasses, lumpy cardigans, and stacks of books. Kenneth Chamberlin is a hottie billionaire cat shifter who offers Chloe a chance to catalog some Sumerian art. Chloe’s grandmother was “fated mates” with Kenneth’s grandmother, but things ended badly and Chloe’s been conditioned to hate anything Chamberlin. This is part of an ongoing series, and shouldn’t be read on its own.
The Good I like Ms. St. Clair’s humor and the little world she’s built here. The characters are likeable and the overall plot is enjoyable, however....
The Bad If you don’t know the overall plot, there’s not enough in this book to keep you interested. Chloe and Kenneth go from barely interacting to love very quickly and I never really got into that romance. I liked seeing characters from earlier books, but I think in this case that it detracted from the romance. I hope with the next book that the H/h are more of a focus, because a good romance can really anchor the rest of the action. Here, the action overtook any romance between Chloe and Kenneth.
The Bottom Line (2.5 stars) If you like humorous paranormal romances that focus more on the ongoing plot than on the individual romances, you may enjoy this. But make sure you read the earlier books, at least #2, or you won’t get as much out of this story.
I didn't like this one as much as I did the first one in the series and I'm not sure why. Kenneth I did love him, "the woman I'm going to marry." Kenneth cut the limo driver off with a look." Chloe was just to sweet I thought I wanted her to be a little more bada**, "she knew she wasn't being a very gracious guest. That's what Kenneth got for oozing sex out of his pores and making her ladybits quiver every time he got close to her." I'm glad Chloe was a change of pace for Kenneth because it sounds like the woman he's used to were a bunch of biatches, "no, I mean it," he said. "I'm used to women who order lettuce with no dressing for dinner, and then spend their meal staring hungrily at my plate, but refusing to take a bite." Kenneth is just a typical guy, always horny, "we should get naked. Yes. There's no-one on this side of the house now; I sent them all away." And well the man is also well endowed, "his clothes ripped off him, but now he stood there in all his glory. His co** was thick and erect, jutting upward from a thatch of curly coal black hair."
I liked this, but there were a few things I wasn't a fan of.
-I didn't like the back and forth between the secondary characters and the main. I thought that it was a good story on both sides, but I feel like there should have been a few less secondary character chapters, maybe every 3rd chapter rather than every other.
-A few editing issues, not enough to drive me up the wall, but a few missing quotation marks really.
-The ending felt a little rushed and didn't flow as well as the rest of the book. It seemed like there were a few different ideas for the ending, so the author just threw them all together as opposed to just merging them cleanly or picking one. However, the overall ending that she was going for was well done.
The stuff I loved :)
-Pixie. Enough said.
-The relationship building between the main characters.
-The storyline as a whole (I'm a sucker for the hated to become lovey-dovey).
-Witty/sassy responses by characters other than Pixie.
-Prince Reggie-so cute!
Overall I give it 3.5, but round up to 4 because it is a cute, light story with great humor.
His Purrfect Mate is the next installment in Georgette St. Clair's Shifters, Inc. series. Each book can be read as a stand alone book but the series does feature recurring characters.
In His Purrfect Mate, Kenneth Chamberlin, owner of Shifters, Inc is trying to figure out who keeps stealing specific artwork from his collection. He looks to art expert Chloe Novak for help. Unfortunately their families have a long standing feud that puts their instant attraction to each other in peril.
I enjoyed His Purrfect Mate but the side stories did overwhelm the romance between Kenneth and Chloe. It was so hilarious reading about Jax trying to keep Bobbi Jo safe and her way of showing Jax that she can keep care of herself. I actually enjoyed that side story the most. And I do have to say I loved the twist with Chloe's and Kenneth's grandparents but I would have liked more of the story focused on Kenneth and Chloe. Still a great story and I look forward to more in the series.
Kenneith chamberlain is head of shifters inc a security firm. when a couple of his properties are broken into and some statues are the only things taken from his extensive collection he needs to find out who has taken them and what's so special about these particular pieces. Chloe Novak is the university's expert who Kenneith want to hire to examine his collection, she also turns out to be his fated mate but their families have a history and Chole has been brought up being told Kenneth's family are not to be trusted and avoided at all costs after ruining her grandmothers life and turning her into a recluse. Things are not as they seem and it takes persistent digging to uncover the truth of deception, betrayal and unbreakable love. This is a good storyline with lots of action, twists and turns along the way. The characters are interesting. I particularly like pixie and the way she loves to wind up the shifters, will she and Tyler ever go on a date ? I hope so !
Ancient Sumerian demons, secret societies , supper hot badass shifters , great sex and a few surprises thrown in and you have a fabulously fun thrill ride . I love this series and recommend you start with book one but you don't have to. you will want to pick up the others in the series after reading this book.
Persistence has always been one of billionaire panther shifter, Kenneth Chamberlin strongest suits and it seems his latest project is going to a bit more work then he expected. He wants to hire Professor Chloe Novak to catalog some artifacts that have been in his families for years. The problem is, the Chamberlin's and the Novak's have had a long standing feud and Chloe has been told repeatedly under no uncertain terms is she to have contact with any Chamberlin. Of course neither expected to be fated mates and the more they delve into the family history, the more questions they have.
Fun read. there are some very funny moments, especially when Pixie is in the story. Chloe is so reluctant to be involved with Kenneth, not trusting her instincts despite the fact that she yearns to. A great shifter series.
Gave it more of a 3.5. Pretty entertaining. I'm thinking I would read whatever other book's come out of the series ( Ahem please let book numero 3 be about Pixie and Tyler. Pretty freaking PLEASE!!!). The idea of (Chloe) a nerdy clumsy glasses wearing were panther was funny. The hot good looking playboy (Kenneth) who falls head over heels in love with her part was just dreamy. The bratty lil cheetah( Reggie) kid with the crocodile nanny, that the rest of the gang had to baby sit was just the cherry on top. Pretty cool that demons were added in the mix. It gave it the sinister kick it needed. Also great to read more about Bobbi and Jax. Good to know there relationship still burns comically spicey hot.
"3 out of 5 stars, one clumsy cat shifter falls right into one fifty-year-old mystery that hits closer to home then she would have accepted and looses her heart to her biggest enemy in the process....
This was the first time I've read a novel from this author and series, however even though it was written as a stand-alone novel so I could understand everything that was going on, I just wished that I liked it better."
This was very good. Pretty much a short read but kept my interest . Kenneth Chamberlain is the founder of Shifters, Inc. Chloe Novak is a teacher /librarian whom Kenneth needs to do some work for him but Chloe is not having any of it. There is bad blood between the Novaks and the Chamberlains and she wants nothing to do with him. Kenneth also knows without a doubt that Chloe is his true mate and Chloe knows its true but fights it with everything she is. There is thefts going on from Kenneths homes in Italy and he needs Chloe to help him figure out some ancient language as to what the thefts of the items say. Highly recommend.
I couldn't finish this book. The main character was stereotypically (and extremely annoyingly) clumsy. The punctuation, especially around dialogue, was awful and there were far too many typos.
I can't get into a story when I can't stand the MC, and I couldn't stand Chloe. The story line had promise, but never delivered. It also had many basic similarities to two other shifter series I have read over the past year or so.
Overall, this needed a good edit to weed out unnecessary parts and correct the typos and punctuation. This was disappointing and a waste of money.
This one is a weird read, the first book is better. The relationship between Chloe and Kenneath falls flat, and half the book is of Jax and Bobbi so there isn't time to build up more of a connection. The plot is a lot and feels all over the place going from stolen statues to a war torn country to demonic world domination. It just felt like it lacked flow, especially with the ending of Chloe and Kenneath's grandparents. I re-read this as my goal to review all my previously rated books, it hasn't held up to my former rating.
H is a rake/playboy. from the first book, we also know he's into bdsm. there's one mention of spanking somewhere, but thankfully, that theme doesn't feature in this book.
In the last book we learned a little about Kenneth but not enough that you would want to skip this book… As soon as I read the description of the book (where it said the Chamberlin family are the ones who ruined her, Chloe Novak, family’s life and reputation) I had to find out what it was the Chamberlin’s did. Reading just one book in the Shifters, Inc series is not enough. I had to go back for more and learn what happened to the other hot as hell shifters.
Ehhh, I actually liked the plot quite a bit, and not visiting the bdsm club as in the first two books with the obligatory spanking or more of a newbie... in open forum... But, the editing was horrible and confusing! The kidnappers were wolves who roared and morphed back and forth apparently... etc.
Well, miracles only last for 3 days... This is the third book by this author and I didn't like it as much. Too much going on and the romance between the main characters was overshadowed by the secondary characters (heroes of the first book in the series). Still, it wasn't a bad book. I like the author's style.
