As a professional aircraft engineer I found this book a little disappointing. Beaumont is a highly respected, experienced and supremely qualified test pilot who has a great story to tell but this book does not do it except in one case. - the TSR2. Those two chapters - which I read first - are detailed, informative and a great read. Regrettably the rest of the book is a mish mash of his WW2 experiences (he was clearly brave and a great leader) and very limited details of his testing of an odd selection of aircraft types. The chapters on the Typhoon and Tempest were interesting but did not tell the whole story - even summarised - of this significant aircraft. So overall disappointing and left me wanting more but highly recommended for the TSR2 story.
