In the small, northern California town of Hollow Mountain, a battle of survival has been unfolding between two warring werewolf packs. Unfortunately for real estate agent Lauren Haley, she accidentally steps right in the middle of it the night she finds out her fiancé has been cheating on her.
With her self-esteem in tatters, Lauren stops by the local dive bar where her best friend works, hoping for a drink and a pep-talk. Everything changes when a handsome stranger walks in and Lauren decides to do something she has never done—just once—before returning to her ordinary life.
Kade Riley, a powerful were-panther who has been shunned for his unique lineage and hardened by life's trials, doesn’t know the reasons why a beautiful human woman asks him to spend one night with her—no strings attached. He just can’t resist a good thing when it falls in his lap.
It was supposed to be just once, but life has other plans.
Even as a brutal war threatens to erupt around Kade and Lauren, their shared attraction grows more intense. With Kade's dangerous life poised to engulf her, can Lauren navigate her fears and step into the world of the paranormal?
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
I liked Kade, but overall, book 3 is still my favourite of all the books as of now.
Kade and "Candy" choose to have one night. And that was all it was supposed to be, but that isn't how it ended up.
When a chance meeting comes a few days later, Kade is upset because "Candy" isn't "Candy" but Lauren, the realtor who sold to his Alpha. They can't stay away from each other, but both are trying because of their pasts.
It's overall a good addition to the series. I would like to see where the series is going to go.
The narration is okay. I liked it more this time than any of the books before.
Kade is a strong panther shifter who moves into Nightwind territory with his brothers, hoping for a new start, a place of acceptance, and a home for the women the tight-knit family has been rescuing along the way. He never travels without bringing trouble along, and that's what he finds in the form of a sexy woman who's only looking for a one-night-stand.
Lauren recently discovered her fiance has been cheating on her while he's been stationed out of the state. It's such a blow to her self-esteem that she decides to drown her sorrows at the bar where her best friend works. When tall, dark, and broody comes walking in, she makes another choice for something she's never done before. She approaches him for a one-night-stand, and he accepts. Neither of the knows what this moment will mean to their future, but Kade soon discovers this time, trouble comes in a small, sexy package that has them both craving more even as their world explodes around them.
I think as soon as the Riley brothers entered the picture, I wanted Kade's story, and this didn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was sexy and dangerous, and I was definitely not disappointed. One of my favorite things about this story was how strong Lauren was. She was a fast thinker and still found time to be concerned about all those around her. I just hope the authors write another one soon.
TEMPTED (Nightwind Pack Book 4) by Laurann Dohner & Kele Moon is the 4th book in the series. This is the last book in the series that is released so far. This is a different take on shifters. The panthers have joined the pack. They needed a home, and the Nightwind Wolves needed more fighters. This book features Kade Riley a panther shifter & his love interest, Lauren Haley a human. It is Lauren who sees a handsome man at the bar and approaches Kade for a one-nightstand. They weren't even looking for anything more, but their attraction for each other was over the top and then some. Lauren didn't even know shifters were even real, but she was in for a real surprise. There was trouble right around the corner for both of them. Even if they are fated & mated to each other and true love between them, it's a big change for them both. Being surrounded by trouble on all sides, won't make it any easier.
#RomanticSuspence #Paranormal #Shifter Written in third person, book four in the series ends in a HEA. Though Kade and Lauren’s story is contained in this book, readers will find the most enjoyment reading this series in order. Lauren is human, and a little oblivious until she is forced into a situation where reality becomes undeniable. I love her bravery and the way she accepts the changes that confront her. I adored her friendship with Roni. Kade is sensitive but tough. He falls fast and hard for the spunky human. I loved the heat between them. I adored Kade’s relationship with his brothers. There is a lot of action in this book as danger surrounds the pack. This was a fun read and I want more books in this series.
This is a fantastic story in this series. After finding out her fiance cheated on her, Lauren does something outside her normal activity - a one night stand with a shifter named Kade. And it was a hot night all around. She even gives him a fictitious name. Lauren doesn't know about shifters but her best friend Roni does. The one night stand becomes more as the attraction between Lauren and Kade grows stronger every time they give into the passion between the two of them. She gets drawn into the current fight between the NIghtwind pack and the Goodwin pack. You'll have to read to find out the happy ending.
Lauren picks a stranger up in a bar wanting a rare-for-her one night stand. He has out of state tags, she gives him a fake name, and borrows her bestie’s cabin. She leaves before he wakes, never expecting to see him again. But who shows up at her real estate office looking to pick up the keys to their new home, but her one night stand and his equally handsome fraternal twin. Busted.
Kade is betwixt & between when his brother goes out of his way to flirt with his one night stand. The mutual attraction is there, but Kade is convinced that seeing the pretty human as more than a one time thing is bad for her, bad for him, and bad for his family. After all, Kade and his brothers were just accepted into the pack. The alphas all respect them, but the rest of the pack still don’t know what to make of them.
Kade’s father was a werewolf, his mother a werepanther. His bothers all carry a little of both heritages, but Kade, his twin Cage, and their eldest brother Jordon are panthers, while their second oldest brother Cord is a wolf.
Love the Riley brothers, especially Kade and Cage. Their chase through the trees fight was rather epic. Love all the brothers happlily accepting Kade’s new mate despite the fact that their family is still smarting over the death of Jordon & Cord’s mates.
Next book, Jordon gets a second chance at love with … Hope Cage gets a book.
4 1/2 stars, this is a nice continuation on this series. I really enjoyed that we got one of the panthers books after being introduced to them previously. I'm always excited to get a Lauren Dohner book no matter what book it is but man I wish we could get a NS book. There's a specific character Ive been wanting for years(sigh).
Love Laurann Dohner. I enjoyed this book. I was disappointed there was no mating heat, and everyone discussed it in the book but it never happened. We The Fans enjoy good mating heat! Very happy to see there will be more books in the future, just please add mating heat lol!
There was a lot of violence and pack wars in this book. The romance is steamy but the hero keeps telling her he's not good for her and they have to say goodbye.
The New Species series by Laurann Dohner is my favorite series by this author.
This was a incredible book of action and intense interactions between the characters. I enjoyed the Riley family. They are tight nit and good for Lauren. I think the guys need a little female in there to calm the testosterone.
I liked this book better when Suzanne Wright wrote it years ago. This series started out fine and original enough and every book since the first one has moved closer and closer to Suzanne Wright’s world. This one is pretty much a direct ripoff.
I actually liked this book more than I thought I would. I liked both main characters, as well as supporting ones, the violence was tolerable, and the heroine wasn’t just a victim and powerless… interesting addition to the series.
I thought this great book. I enjoyed the action scenes as well as the love scenes. I hope Lauren does decide to allow Kade to turn her into a were-panther eventually. Who wouldn't want to be half panther?

Great book and great series. Too bad there hasn't been another since 2023, would have loved to see Miles get his HEA. Even the promised Jordon and Roni book hasn't come about. So many great characters to love and who need their HEA's. Well worth my time and $$
Ms gusto mucho el libro. Volver nuevamente a una humana que no sabe del mundo cambia formas siempre es reconfortante. La quimica que hay entre la pareja me gusto mucho ademas de saber mas sobre las panteras. Me gusto mucho
