A Ghost Story is the saga of the dark fantastic, small town evil, and the courage of a child. Winchester County was once a great place to live, with its picturesque Willow Lake and the charming town of Ivy Springs, a true Norman Rockwell paradise if there ever was one. But now, the mayor of Ivy Springs, the corrupt and powerful Dexter Scruggs, rules with an iron fist. Mayor Scruggs has become obsessed with gaining custody of his granddaughter, Delaney, no matter what. And if he can't have her--no one can. Can a ragtag crew of adults and one supernatural being save young Delaney from the wrath of her crazed grandfather? A Ghost Story is guaranteed to not be just another campfire tale.
Keith is a father of one, career-minded and a little bit of a square. Nonetheless, at times,he finds himself looking to the stars for orbiting alien spacecraft and has been known to carry an enchanted sword in the trunk of his car. Oh, and that hockey mask and machete in the backseat…that’s just for Halloween…

So started this book last night and finished it about 5 am this morning. It isn't that long - just over 200 pages. Very simply written, the book cuts out a lot of those excruciating descriptions that some authors seem to put in just to build up the page count. Virtually everything had something to do with the characters and was important to the story - there were a few exceptions but for the most part this was true. I thought it kind of left one death unexplained but that isn't enough to worry about.
The good guys are lovable, the villans are not and everyone in between is well defined. For once the ghost is good and helpful, people are actually competent, and the good guy isn't limited to one person. Delaney is adorable.
I don't have anything really bad to say about the book - there were a few scenes that maybe could have used a little adjusting but they were so few that I hardly noticed. A pleasure to read without requiring me to invest a lot of thinking or time - sometimes you need a book like that. This is my first Keith Latch book I do believe but doubt it will be my last. I give the book an A!
