Based on the result of a personal word study started in the Book of Numbers, author Debby Akerman encourages believers to practice three areas essential to living surrender, sacrifice, and service. She recognizes that most believers know about serving and serve well, but what is often overlooked is the surrender and sacrifice. In a very gentle way, Akerman shares biblical and contemporary stories of believers whose lives reveal all-for-you living, as well as biblical truths to put into practice.

Debby Akerman has put togethera good work which helps the reader to look at their lives and see how they can "wholeheartedly" follow Christ. She does this by sharing Biblical people who were not perfect, yet discovered they could become stronger individuals by giving all to God.
This study begins with the first book of the Bible and shares scriptures, comments and then applications for the teachings within your own life.
I found this was a wonderful resource for reflecting on my life and seeing different ways that I could improve to become a better Christian.

God is at work in our lives – and SECRETS TO SURRENDER explores living wholeheartedly following Christ, as Debby Akerman shares with readers, strong biblical and contemporary stories -- whose lives were flawed, surrendering, and becoming strong by putting these truths into practice.
She starts from the beginning, with the book of Genesis with helpful scriptures and wholehearted words, with applications at the end of each chapter, as you ponder how the message relates to your current life. God is not moved by feeble desire, listless prayers, and spiritual laziness. God wants to see our souls on fire with passion, as our hearts reach out to Him.
There are many favorites and illustrations, such as reflecting upon a time in your life when God made a way of escape from a situation that threatened to enslave you, a time like Caleb’s in Egypt before the great Exodus. Was it an addiction that enslaved? We know Him but don’t live for Him. When release is found in God’s leading out of bondage, and His protection is felt day and night in new freedom, faith grows.
God holds us accountable to live like Jesus did, by the world-view reveled through the scriptures. By spending time in prayer, we examine with God our heart of surrender. We need to ask God to identify any areas of hardness that have formed to keep us from full wholehearted surrender, sacrifice and service which are essentials for Christian living.
We all have only one life to offer and what will our final words be at the close of our life? Will they reflect a life surrendered completely to Jesus? Will our final words be of the job of giving our all as a living sacrifice? Will they be an encouragement to others to serve with all their heart, soul, and mind until He returns?

The last few years have been busy ones for me as I made the transition from stay-at-home mom to working mom. It's been a challenge to work all day, come home and care for my family and still find time to read books that help to keep me focused on giving God the most important place in my life. I had been failing miserably at that. My spiritual life had fallen by the wayside.
Now I am setting aside time first thing in the morning to read the Bible, pray, meditate on God's word and read a bit of a book that will help me grow. This is the first one I chose for my quiet time.
The book goes into detail about events from the bible and also contains more recent stories of people who have committed their lives to God. The theme of surrender is carried out well with suggestions for action and meditation.
I highly recommend this book for any Christian who is seeking a deeper Christian faith.

Looking over this book at first glance I am going to recommend it to my Bible study group. At the end of each section are questions for dicussion. This author's key to living whole heartedly are surrender, sacrifice and serve. She encourages us to practice these things. She invites us to serve with servants hearts.
