Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.
Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.
In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.
Volume 4 is another Super Dinosaur/Derek Dynamo adventure but it was a little lacking compared to the first couple of volumes. This felt less world-building and more like a giant repetitive fight that didn't accomplish anything. Don't get me wrong, the book was still a fun read but I felt the revelations from last volume weren't explored enough and nothing new came to be. Overall, another good read but a step back.
Great series! Love the mood of the book, the drawing and the characters. Even with a really predictable plot and all (being a book for all ages), i just made me happy to read this. Can't wait for the hiatus to end. And i'm very sad that, probably, i will never have access to the Super Dinosaur cartoon and game...
How on earth do you put out four volumes of this and leave it on a cliffhanger?! Just write a concluding issue/panel/paragraph... anything to tie it up. While I enjoyed the light adventures that define this series, I can't really recommend it because ultimately it goes nowhere.
At this point the series has become grating. No matter how idiotically any of the characters behave, everything works out and there aren't any consequences for their actions. Recklessness, arrogance, and putting innocent people's lives in danger for one's own selfish reasons are just fine and dandy in Super Dinosaur because the heroes always win in spite of their terrible choices. The graphic novel ends on a cliffhanger that would seem dire in any other book, but it's meaningless in a series where everything is solved by a random invention, ridiculous luck, or just the protagonists' ability to pull a victory out for no justifiable reason.
Never before have I so strongly wanted to see the supposed "good guys" lose, and I have no intention of continuing with a series that makes me feel that way.
This is another awesome installment of the series that had a lot cool action and we get to learn more about Maximus and a new villain. Also it doe try to wrap a lot of the unfinished plot lines like with Derek's mom and it does end with a very cool fight between the Derek and his friends and the Dino-men. I just hope that the next one comes out soon because unfortunately it does end on a cliff-hanger and I pray the series is going to continue and not be cancelled like so many people think.
