After reading through the main Wonderland stories from the Zenescope universe you may be asking yourself: what happened after Callie pushed her brother Johnny through the mirror into Wonderland? How did he become the Mad Hatter? And who is the Queen of Diamonds? All these questions will be answered in the book.

The story is really good. It has enough action and adventure to keep the story moving quickly without adding on complicated and unnecessary explanations. See my review of Wonderland volume 5 for an example of a bad, boring, and, overly complicated story.

From reading almost all the volumes in the series I know that Johnny becomes the Mad Hatter. I also know that he killed his father and his father's lover. However, with all the nasty things he has done before I was still rooting for him and Adina to escape from Wonderland. This book does a great job of showing Johnny as a kid that is sorry for what he has done and shows glimpses of him wants to change his ways....until the madness overcomes him.

The art work varies and is the downfall of the story. It goes from really good to simply terrible. Some of the art is well done while others look like bad rough sketches. This is a real shame, because hurts the overall enjoyment of the story.

These supplementals are doing a lot for giving me context to how messed up this universe is. I do wish Zenoscope actually had a definitive list of which order to read all of these containing the whole series and supplementals.

I went into this with high hopes, and maybe that was my mistake. I loved the idea of this series explaining what happened to Johnny Liddle given how terrifying he is in Beyond and Escape Wonderland, but I was disappointed by the lack of action. It starts right at the end of Return to Wonderland with Johnny's entrance to Wonderland. It does give a little summary of previous events so if you haven't read Return to Wonderland you wont be totally lost, but I recommend reading it first. Pretty much all the action happens in the final issue #5. I did appreciate the well this series tied into the rest of Johnny's story in the Beyond and Escape wonderland. In the end I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the series, but don't read this one first. Also the series is not for kids, it contains a lot of gore and skimpy clothing (as does pretty much any zenescope comic).

This one's about how Johnny becomes the Mad Hatter, which is basically him just wandering through wonderland. I'm very slanted towards Calie's POV and found this addition to be...just like..."Okay. And?" I feel like johnny murdering his father (and later mother) in the original trilogy was enough for him to be branded 'evil' and this foray into wonderland and the insta-love of Adina was...'Okay. And?'
Basically this was a very long "So what?" because there was just something i couldn't connect to with Johnny. Male characters are something I feel Zenescope doesn't do very well, and on a different note: the art was very...boxy.
