Reading Fun

Rate this book
School library media specialists play many roles--information specialist, teacher, instructional consultant. One of their most important duties is stimulating the joy of reading in children. Enjoying reading is essential for the lifelong learner, yet often is discarded for simple skills sessions that do not fully activate a child's potential.

In Reading Fun, Mona Kerby draws on her fifteen years of experience at J.B. Little Elementary School in Arlington, Texas, to provide the busy library media specialist with seventy simple, but effective, activities designed to motivate students to read--and reproducible bookmarks, worksheets, games, and certificates to facilitate them. Activities are centered around specific authors, award winning books, fairy tales, biographies, Dewey decimal practice, summer reading, and more. Also included are helpful hints for adapting the activities to particular students and library situations. Grade level appropriateness is indicated.

Lots of reproducibles, but not useful in most ways except some okay ideas on teaching little kids about Dewey decimal.

Has some good ideas on awards for reading, contests, duplicatable bookmarks and certificates. A little out of date though.
