Just because Jack turns into a hairy, wolf-like creature every full moon, doesn’t mean he’s a werewolf. Anna knows there’s no such thing as werewolves. Anna Brown is a sorceress, and one of the leading experts on demons for the Arcanists. She knows how to help Jack shed the curse that plagues him, if he’ll let her, but the local demons are after Anna. She has a power they want to control. Does she have enough magic to save Jack and to keep the local Demon Lord at bay? Jack Hughes trusts Anna to free him from his curse, but he doesn’t realize the danger she’s in until it’s too late. When Anna is captured by demonic creatures Jack realizes that the only way to free her is to embrace the beast he so wanted to be rid of. Can he save her under the bright, full moon or will demons from a dark dimension destroy them? There’s no such thing as Werewolves is the opening salvo in the Demons Rising saga. It’s a love story between two special people who live in a very dangerous world. This Novella is around 32,000 words.
In the mood for a demon read I picked up this Kindle Unlimited novella, and found a whole host of paranormal mischief. S.C. Mitchell kicks off his demon universe in this book with witchy Anna Brown and werewolf Jack Hughes. They had been middle school friends who each had a little crush on the other. Unfortunately, puberty hit Jack and so did his recessive werewolf genes. Years later, Anna needs a little plumbing work done in her kitchen (ahem!) and Jack obliges. So the two become reacquainted and secrets are revealed regarding both their respective paranormal proclivities.
Anna's specialty is summoning demons, which gets her noticed by the local area demon king. She is captured, and it is up to Jack and Anna's other witch friends to battle the demon horde.
Mitchell's human/demon world felt more like Bon Temps, Louisiana rather than a scary hell spilling over into the human realm like say, Constantine. There was a pretty original paranormal twist that I expect Mitchell will get some mileage out of in the sequel books.
I managed to read this in one afternoon while my bub was asleep on me. I found it to be a really interesting and fast paced story that was definitely a page turner.
It’s not your normal werewolf novel so if that’s what you’re after if you go to read this you will be disappointed. Instead, there is a twist on what werewolves actually are which I thought was very clever and I enjoyed how the story evolved around this twist.
Things between the main characters, Anna and Jack, move extremely fast at the beginning of the story after they first meet and realise that they were good friends at school many years ago. Anna is an Arcanist which is a type of sorceress and Jack is a plumber with a huge secret which means he has to lock himself away once a month when there’s a full moon.
There’s No Such Thing As Werewolves is action packed from the moment you begin reading and it’s definitely an easy book to finish in a spare couple of hours. It’s a book that you won’t want to put down because you always want to know what’s going to happen next. There was one situation at the start that moved so fast that I actually thought I might have skipped some pages on my kindle somehow but then I realised that I hadn’t and it was just the way the story moves.
This is the first instalment in the Demons Rising saga. The second book in the series, The Forsaken Templar, was released last month and I can’t wait to see how this story continues.
A good start on a series from a new writer. I've picked up the second in the series to see how this continues. I enjoyed the twists on the "typical" werewolf and witch lore.
Anna reconnects with a childhood friend only to realize he has some serious issues. Jack has been isolated since junior high with a problem he thought incurable until he finds Anna. A fun fast paced story that makes you rethink what a werewolf really is or at least gives you another road to walk. I enjoyed the chemistry between Jack and Anna. Great details on the characters/demons, story was fast paced with a satisfying ending. A good introduction into the Demons Rising Series.
This book was well written and flowed I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more😊 I definitely need to know what is instore for them
A story that provides an explanation to why there is all the evil in the world. SC Mitchell has taken a revised look at werewolves, demons, and the relationship to humanity. Adding in the Arcanist, witches/warlocks, who are fighting against the evil provides for a very interesting story.
The heroine, Anna, is an Arcanist, who has been studying demons and attempting to bring one from the other side. The only problem is her activities put her on the radar of the local demon lord.
The hero, Jack has had a secret his entire life. In fact, this is a family secret that has ruled his life ever since eighth grade. The full moon affects Jack in such a way he has to lock himself up during that period.
A chance meeting between Anna and Jack leads to problems, adventure, and love. A quick, steamy read that makes you want to read the Demons Rising Saga as it continues in the novella The Forsaken Templar.
Anna, is an Arcanist, who has been studying demons and attempting to bring one from the other side. Where she has bought the attention of a demon lord to her. Jack has been carrying a secret for as long as he can remember. On a full moon he becomes a werewolf. One night the werewolf gets loose and finds Anna. Anna see that Jack has a demon inside him and will help to banish the demon from him. Things get very hot between the 2, can;t wait to see what happens next.
This story of Anna and Jack is charming and full of thrills. Anna meets Jack when he comes to her house as a plumber. They realize that they had gone to school together as kids, but hadn't seen one another for years. As their friendship rekindles and deepens, Anna find that Jack has a problem - albeit one she can help him fix. The rest of the story chronicles their hair-raising efforts to solve this problem. I can't wait to read The Forsaken Templar.
Fresh voice, great hero and heroine and a lot of trouble spells out a great book. This one has it all. Love, magic, surprises and a healthy dose of humor makes this novel one of my favorite summer reads. The author captures our interest and makes us care for the characters. Well done. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
