Off The Rails: Excerpts From My Life

Rate this book
Growing up in rural Northern California in the 1960's and 70's led me on many great adventures and some perilous experiences many of my own making. After reviewing some of these experiences I realized just how close I came to death on many occasions. Childhood and teenage pranks led me to far more risky behaviors in my adult life. Living the life of a drummer in both rock and country bands led me into even more risky behaviors including drug and alcohol abuse. After hitting bottom, with the help of my family I eventually overcame many obstacles and came to grips with my spiritual path. I wrote this originally for my sons, to help them understand why their father was nuts, and for my grandchildren so they would have a family history to gain inspiration from.

It took me 56 years before I wrote and published my first book,I am now working on two more. I have been married for the past 26 years to my best friend and confidante, Mary Ellen. I have worked in the healthcare field most of my life when not doing other things.
My other obsession is drumming, which I do whenever possible. I have been a drummer since I was seven or eight years old.
My life has been blessed by two sons from a previous marriage.
Writers who have influenced me in my life and writing are Hunter S. Thompson and Walter Isaacson. Non-fiction books have influenced me the most.
Although I like writing, I do not call myself a writer.I reserve that title for real writers, who can spell and use proper punctuation. I am more of a story teller who enjoys sharing a good story.

This is a brave and accurate book about growing up in the 60’s and 70’s written by a good friend of mine. The fact that he bare’s his soul and shares the struggles of his adulthood really touched my heart. Very interesting read.
