Amazing conclusion to the duology, Xingyin is a straightforward, practical and lovely main character and it was refreshing to see sense in a main character’s perspective. Great turns, action and love, 4.5 if I could!

When the autumn moon festival passed this year, I felt a need to pick this series up again, and I wasn't disappointed! The plot was less predictable to me than the first one, which I liked. I was fustrated by the love triangle, but overall the book concluded well. I love the story of her parents, and the magic in the way she writes.

Look it was pretty fabulous, but what a whirl wind of emotions. At no point did I predict where she was taking this story. Up until the last 4 chapters which were fairly disappointing. Luckily the very ending saved it again, but wow. Worth the read because the love interests are SLAY but I’m happy there isn’t a third book, I’m ready to move on

3.75* I really wanted to like this book lol. Love the Chinese mythology elements and backstory but the plot was like so extremely nonsensical? Like things were just happening left and right randomly. Also so much tragedy just for the sake of tragedy? Xingyin frustrated me so much this book, the love triangle was hot fucking mess. Honestly almost dnf’ed twice. The first book could have stood alone idk if this book was really necessary tbh.

it was meh for me not only did it not live upto its predecessor but it felt chopped up at times and didn't have the flow of plot that the first one had and it felt like things were happening because of no other reason but that the author wanted to write one more book because there were just too many plot conveniences. we got more romance heavy which wasn't that necessary tbh. still liked the world tho. the magic system was so interesting. there was also alot of stuff happening off page which kinda caught me off guard.

I don’t know how I feel about Xingyen making terrible decisions? She was a cunning, archerer, determined to train and protect her loved ones but in this one she was kind of meh. I wasn’t feeling the “sweet” story line they were giving for the mother daughter rekindle. Everyone’s character just fell off. The mom was in the storyline but the character they gave her fell flat for me. Liwei is just as useless in this one too, I wanted more between their romance for Liwei, I wanted to be drooling over Liwei.

I loved the first book in the series, but I couldn’t continue with this one.

:(:(

What a beautiful end to this duology. Expect a rollercoaster of the heart's dilemma, sacrifices, family, and adventure. Loved all the descriptions of the lands in this Celestial Kingdom. For those who have some background in Chinese mythology may recognise a certain character and their backstory introduced here. I loved how the author spun that and added a new twist and made it her own.

It covers a lot more on the emotions - overcoming hurt, loss, grief...how compassion wins and understanding that love can hurt and heal. It truly was a journey of understanding emotions and how to navigate life through Xingyin's eyes. I was really touched by it.

Lovely duology that I thoroughly enjoyed!

P/S: The little homage to YuTu at the end was a cute touch.

A cute duology with romance, fantasy and action. However, at times I found the world building to be a little flat and the writing wasn’t overly captivating; I didn’t feel any particular hatred or dislike for the villains which I suspect isn’t meant to be the case. This book was like a fast meal for me- easily eaten and yummy but only scratched a craving to read, not uproot my existence. I’m rating it 4 stars rather than 3 for the fact I liked the protagonist as she wasn’t being swashed around by the love triangle and the cover is beautiful.

Mixed feelings. The first saga was really amazing until I took a sympathy between Wenzhi and Liwei. In the second book, I love the setting and the action, but not the character development from Xingyin. She isn't stabile in the name of love. I'm confuse to see whether she is focus on her mission or to choose between the two male characters who have deep feelings for her. Unlike her strong devotion to solve her family problem, her unstable romantic affection just ruined my sympathy to her.

This might be a controversial opinion, but I was rooting for Wenzhi the entire time. I was sobbing through the last few chapters.

Heart of the sun warrior
The sequel of daughter of the moon goddess

When the first book doesn’t have an open ending, I normally don’t feel the rush to read the sequel, but I already had the sequel here. The daughter of the moon goddess had a good ending, not a lot of lose ends accept for a personal favor, that I wished she would end up with the other.

In the heart of the sun warrior Sue Lynn Tan, blesses us with a warming start after Xingyen had freed her Mother from the imprisonment of the Celestial Emperor. The first chapters is about her finding her roots back, living on the moon with her mother and their beloved servant Ping’er.
But soon all is about the change, and this sequel has yet again a few unforeseen plot twists. The love triangle is back in full force, which made me happy, but also annoyed because the one I personally favored did not received the love fully from Xingyen during the story. There were moments in the book, that were too stretched for me. Sue lynn‘s, talent to paint beautiful pictures in our minds about environments and garments is also showed in this sequel, yet sometimes it was a bit too long and too much detail before an enticing scene. Example, at one point they visit a Queen of one of the 8 kingdoms, without knowing if the Queen would be in their favour. Entering this scene took at least 4 pages before we knew if the Queen would be nice or not. Just a little example of me also not having the patience to embrace all those tiny details of the stairs they take, the dress of the Queen and the extended description of the soldiers garments. That being said, eventually it was a page turner for me, wanting to know what would happened next. The first book had a lot of emotions when it came to love, treachery, bravery, fear and sadness. This book added Death to it too, which had me a few times in tears. Frustration also came along during my reading journey, as I could not fully connect with Xingyen decisions, or her grudge holding or that she did not stood up for herself with the Empress, as I wanted to do so often. There was a surprising ending, which got me all in my feels. I did not expect it to end like this. It is yet again an ending which will be fine, but I will not be surprised if Sue Lynn Tan comes with a third book in this series.

Did you read the book? And what were your thoughts?
With Love,

i am ASHAMED at how long this took me to read. i loved this book so much, i wish i finished it the week i got it. it was so good and i loved reading it so much.
i cannot say it enough; sue lynn tan is a beautiful writer. she is so wonderful at description and really getting you locked into the story and giving you a beautiful visual of the world that xinying is in. once i picked it up and committed to finishing it, it barely took me two? maybe three days to finish. her writing is addictive i swear. this book and the previous one have some of my favorite book quotes and i love it.
when it comes to the love interests, i like how it wasn’t wholly centered on xinying’s love interests and it was almost like a side part to the story. not to say it didn’t take up a good majority of the book, because it did, but it wasn’t the focus and i really enjoyed it. im still conflicted on who’s side im on because in the first book i realllyy was rooting for liwei, but in this one i couldn’t decide between liwei or wenzhi. i still can’t decide lmao.
i said it once and ill say it a million times again, i would give my soul to read this series for the first time again. i love it so much, and i’m beyond excited for the next book coming in february.

∞/5 i cant even exaggerate this

excuse the messy review i have NOT collected my thoughts

this book was AMAZING like i honestly love it more than DOTMG (WHICH I ALREADY LOVED SO MUCH) just with how deep it explored into chinese mythology and all of the other characters we met in the first book, as well as new ones. it just felt like everything fell into place and we saw even more of xingyin's self-journey. as many others have written about, i loved the love triangle (which i usually get slightly annoyed by), with how mature and amazing both of the boys are and how well they treat xingyin. THERE WERE SOOOOOOO MANY PLOT TWISTS and this book twisted, punched, and stabbed my heart over and over. the emotions i felt while reading this book were just amazing.

Sue Lynn Tan is now easily one of my favourite authors and i will DEFINITELY be getting myself a copy of her Tales of the Celestial Kingdom book.

will for sure be rereading this one when i feel like it because this world was beautiful and i just fell in love with the characters. wonderful book <33

In ‘Heart of the Sun Warrior’, Sue Lynn Tan masterfully weaves a mesmerizing tale around the courageous journey of Xingyin, the female protagonist whose trials for love and honor captivate from start to finish. Tan’s exquisite prose delves deep into the realms of Chinese mythology, casting a spell that resonated deeply with me; I truly understood Xingyin’s every emotion. As the final installment of a captivating duology, I believe it’s a fitting conclusion, with twists that surprised me and an ending that left me in awe. ‘Heart of the Sun Warrior’ is not just a masterpiece; it’s a must-read for anyone enchanted by fantasy literature.

Lots of my tears went into this book.. and lots of my love. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending but I also love the ending since there is lots of possibilities. I wish Xingyin ended up with someone else but it still could happen since the author left lots of possibilities. I LOVED this book with all my heart and Daughter of the Moon Goddess. I definitely recommend, this is my favourite books and book series.

This duology and the companion short stories are my favorite books. They are beautifully written, bringing to life the characters and events with the detailed writing. I felt connected to the characters with all the ups and downs. This follows a few stories from Chinese mythology, with a girl setting upon a journey and meeting new friends (and villains) along the way. If I could I would give this 100 stars. As a Wenzhi stan, I was heartbroken at first, but loved the ending.

I loved this book. I love Sue’s writing and i LOVE Wenzhi but the way they treated him was crazy. The one problem I have is that there are so many subplots in this book that I have a hard time with keeping up. I didn’t even know what the sacred flame feather was supposed to do or why they went through the trouble of getting it until Xingyin went to the moon lol. Other than that, this is a beautiful duology, inside AND out ofc.

I loved this. I enjoyed this more than the first one. So many authors are afraid for characters to die, but Sue Lynn Tan handles it so beautifully and truly breaks your heart. I’m so happy that Xingyin ended up with Wenzhi, all along I was rooting for them. This is one of those books I’m sad to be done with because I enjoyed living in their world for some time.
