Over a thousand years ago a brave band of Knights of the Round Table agreed to enter Morganna’s castle and remove an ancient spell that allowed the sorceress the ability to travel in time. But they had been betrayed, Morganna caught the young men and despite Merlin’s protection, cast a spell upon them that would age them a year for every day they lived as men. Merlin did the only thing he could; he changed the men to horses so they could roam as immortals until someone could break the spell. For more than one thousand years, the Herdin family was charged with the duty to help the horses and break the spell. Once every hundred years, the signs aligned and another Herdin risked their life to free the knights. This time, Meaghan Herdin’s father, Lord John, is the last surviving male heir in the Herdin line. Will he be able to break the spell or will Morganna and her followers destroy Meaghan’s family? Set in Ireland in the 18th century, Eochaidh – The Legend of the Horseman, is filled with love, adventure, loyalty and magic.

I am a big fan of Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly paranormal mystery series so I decided to give her new young adult/science fiction series a try. I'm glad I did--it has a similar charm, heart and a 'plucky' female lead character like the Mary books but, it is set in 18th century Ireland and instead of a former cop who sees ghosts, our lead is Lady Meaghan, a brave teenage tomboy.
The legend of the Eochaidh (I need a better lesson in how to pronounce it in my head) ;-) is that they were former Knights of the Round Table, under an ancient spell from the witch Morganna that would age them a year for every day they live. The wizard Merlin, cast a counter spell that allows them to live forever as horses. Every 100 years, the Herdin family (last name meaning pure of heart), has an opportunity to help lift the curse and free the knights and Meaghan's father is the last surviving Herdin male heir. Evil Morganna, able to travel in time isn't willing for that to happen, putting Meaghan's family in grave danger.
Book One is quick and entertaining read that sets up the story but still has plenty of adventure, it will please young and not-so-young adults who like this genre alike.
this was great fun. cliffhanger ending though :( the relationships were real and characters were adorable. no harlequin level romance, but some fun flirts and what have you. the plot moves along at a good steady jog. plenty of action, but doesn't feel contrived. so glad I checked this book out. maybe I'll check out this O'Reilly series and see if it is equally fun. (update: the O'Reilly series was fun, but I am a sucker for the enchanted, so this is still better.)
Terri Reid has taken a new path into a completely different kind of story. If you've read the Mary O'Reilly books (and I've read every single one of them!) you know that she writes wonderful characters and pulls the reader into exciting, funny, tense situations that have you laughing, cringing and, at times, shedding a tear.
From the beginning of this story, the characters and environment came wonderfully alive. Meaghan, her parents and the household are vividly described and it is so easy to find myself invested in what is happening to them. The story is set in a beautiful, magical place that I would love to visit. I can hear the sounds of the forest, the animals, the water, footsteps on soft ground. You can almost smell the forest.
It is really obvious to me that no matter what direction Terri takes, her skill in telling a story is up there with the best!
I love Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly paranormal mysteries and her new fantasy series is off to a great start. I loved it. It was a fun escape while I was vacationing at the beach . Even though it is categorized as YA Fantasy, adults will also enjoy it as well. I know I did. And now I not only have to wait for the next installment of Mary O'Reilly but have a new series I have to wait on. I wish Terri would write faster but then she probably wouldn't have much of a life - so I'll try to be patient.
Reid takes on a whole new genre with this wonderful fantasy! The characters are wonderfully creative and fun. This was a can't put down book! The cliffhanger ending is making me anxious for the next installment.
I listened to the audiobook so this review is for that Mythical creatures and a magical forest with fairies! I’m a huge King Arthur fan so I loved the Merlin/Morganna storyline. This is my first Terri Reid book, I can’t wait for the next book in this series and any other books she’s written. I found her writing to be smooth and visual, I felt like I could really see the story play out almost like seeing through Megan’s eyes. The narrator did a great job moving between characters and bringing the story to life.
It is a fascinating storyline. Full of adventure and humor. The interaction of the family is full of love and mischief. But a great evil is against them. What an intriguing book Terri Reid has written.
The narrator, Rachel Ahren did a good job with the character voices but her greatest skill was the inflections in conversations. that portrayed subtle meanings and enhanced the love and mischief.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to have an opportunity to finish the story through Book 2.
This was a fun, easy read. Not something I would normally read but I'm glad I did. It is a cross between an Arthurian tale in its magical element, and an historical fiction novel. All of the characters are really well fleshed out and interesting. This is supposedly the first in a series but I can't find anything about when the second book will be written/released. The first one ends in a real cliffhanger, so I hope there will be more.
I enjoy this author for an easy quick read, a sort of literary snack, but this book had more meat than typical. The Mary oreilly series is sweet and shallow. This is a meal. More story, deeper characters made it much more satisfying. Looking forward to the next installment.
I read this when it first came out, and just reread it because it's been awhile and the second one is out. It's so well written, and puts a different spin on the time this story takes place. Most often people married for money and power, but their is love found here in this household. I can't wait to see if Meaghan gets her revenge.
An interesting tale, with interesting characters and an evil mother who was truly evil. It had humor and adventure and the narrator telling the story kept your attention till the end and her accents blended into the story nicely. So when you get a chance pick up copy and enjoy.
That is what comes to mind after finishing the book. It's been almost two years since this story was written. Then I am left with a cliffhanger of epic proportions!!! I really hope Ms. Reid is planning to finish this one soon!! I didn't want to leave the story so soon. You can feel the magic in this story. Through the mist of the woods you can hear the Fae as they laugh and dance, glimpse the faraway land of Camelot, but also feel the evil that is hidden, lurking, as you wait for your knight of old. The story isn't even set in medieval times. I love everything Terri Reid has written. I have now read all of her work. What is available on Amazon anyway. Her stories capture you making you feel like you are a part of character's world. Please say the sequel is in the works!
This book was so good!!!!!!! The ends leaves you hanging and makes you can't wait for the next one!!!! My stepmom told me about this book and how good it was and she was right!!!! I can't wait for the next one to come out!!!!!! I would recommend it to all my friends and family!!!!
I don't often read these types of books but I really like the author so I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next one on the series.
Love the old fables and legends of Camelot...I need a pronunciation guide for the Irish words...I like the main characters! I cannot wait for the next one! I highly recommend Terri Reid novels!
At first I thought it was going to be farfetched, but I like this writer. It quickly gets you involved with the characters and into their lives. Fast moving great story.
Terri Reid has written an exceptional book! She is a great story teller! The ending leaves you hanging but the next book is coming soon and I can't wait! This is a must read book for all my friends!
Bit of a slow start, but enjoyed this book. The pace was quickened the further into the book and left on a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Enthralling! Terri Reid casts an enchantment with this new series. Rich in imagery, the setting is exactly how you would imagine the world at the time the novel is set. Add a courageous and strong female hero, a hateful and strong female villain, and a group of brave but cursed men in need of rescue, and you have a page tuner that is difficult to put down.
