Grafitti Calculus is a book length poem that will pull you in with rapture and awe and holds you until the very last page. As a deeply penetrating maternal meditation on the loss and finding of a son, it will make you appreciate every breath, step, word and flicker of an eye of a loved one. Willis gracefully transcends a mother’s love and pain and the deep connection with a child gone astray.

“Blank absence is still a kind of presence, said Freud. I projected myself at you and moved fast.” The poetry is rich in rhythms, emotions, and metaphors with an overarching deep love for a son. The reader will be transformed knowing that reading and writing poetry can be profoundly healing. Sherman-Willis' words are a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

A must read for every mother and person who has ever loved deeply and completely.
