Popular favourites such as Pork Cutlet or Beef Bowl also make a satisfying meal. Anytime you’re up for something fancier, a crispy tempura or savoury salmon rice bowl can impress and satisfy on special occasions. Complete with interesting notes on selected ingredients, this handy book makes preparing donburi fun and enjoyable.
Written for a Japanese market, these recipes do translate well for a Western reader with a little awareness of Japanese culture and knowledge of Western shortcuts to get 'authentic' flavours. Some of the ingredients would be harder to get for us in the West unless there is an availability of a Japanese super market in the vicinity.
The pictures are beautiful, the descriptions tantalising, and the instructions are clear, if you understand Japanese cooking techniques.
I highly recommend this book to expand your Japanese food collection but it isn't an entry level book.
