As much as it pains me to say, this one just didn't wow me like the other books in the series. It was oh so short and I wanted more development between Mark and Beth. Their time was coming as far as the series was concerned and I wanted the "ummmph" I got from the rest of the series.

I enjoyed it for the most part but after all of the waiting for this story, I wanted more.

Regrettably, this book only got about optimistically 2 stars from me... WHY?!!? is it me or there is a whole chuck of story missing.

Minor Spoiler...

The story starts with rather slow pace with a so-so story-line... not that it is bad... it is just okay... I mean I like all the characters and Mark x Beth looks promising but the book just don't do them justice. The first part is okay and i keeps hoping for better and it does... for about a chapter (about half way through the book)... things get a little exciting... and then it ends... like... it ENDS!!! there is an adventure but it ends when it starts... SERIOUSLY... I'm saying there is a whole missing part in chapter 16!?!? if i have to say myself another at least 5 more chapters about dealing with the adventure but no no NOOOOO!! it is just done. finished. end of story... do you get what i'm saying... if you can't see what i see, let me show you....

More Spoilers

Chapter 16 includes 2 parts. the first part is about Mark x Beth Sexy time.. it was nice... and the second.. it was all it takes for them to solve their mystery. they solve it in half a chapter, 624 words literally. They did nothing!! all they did was being at the right place and the right time... saw the culprit. The light suddenly turned off and then...

There was a clattering sound and a thud as he hit the ground and let go of the gun. Then there was more scrambling, and the lights came on again. I don’t know what in the hell I expected to see, a ghost I guess? What I actually did see was Bruce, still in his Charlie Chan outfit, and Bruno with his teeth buried in the photographers ankle. Braden had grabbed the gun and Adam was already calling 911.

SEE THIS!! SEE THIIIIISSSSS!!! yeah... that's all it take... that's all there is...

and chapter 17... don't even have to mention that... inadequate and totally shorty short... that is not a conclusion to a story! that's a mean way to end the story... Mark x Beth deserve much much more than this... so to say i'm not impressed is an utterly understatement of the year...

or did I bought the wrong version of WINNING APPEAL... Someone please tell me my book is the only one missing what it is missing... I would really love to get the correct version, if there is one.

Sorry my 'obsessive fan' heart just cannot take this... 1.5 to 2 painfully given stars

Beth Pierceis a in charge of fund raising for brother non-profit legal aid. She’s had a crush on her brother’s best friend for years now and whenever he seems to be around she turns into a complete klutz every unlike her usual confident and independent woman she is.

Mark Patterson is a lawyer at the non-profit and is also best friend of Beth’s friend. Mark finally notices Beth in Adam and Lilly’s book butnow has no idea what to do. He doesn’t want to ruin his relationship with his best friend but he really wants Beth.

I though Mark and Beth were cute together. Some of their scenes are quite funny and their romance is sweet. The book doesn’t have much conflict or angst since they both wanted to date each other and were pretty much blunt about what they wanted from the relationship from the start.

Quibbles: I know many people are not happy that it isn’t a full novel length book but really I think this book is better this way because they have known each other ever for a long time and now wanted to be together. Their story was pretty much straight forward and didn’t need for it to be 300 pages long but I would liked the book to be more focused on Mark and Beth especially since it was smaller and we waited a long time for the book.

Overall this is a great addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. Happy Reading!

Um, what happened here? This book was being marketed as Book 4 (now conveniently changed to a novella), which would indicate it would be a full novel read, which would make sense since the first couple got almost two books so we can see their character and couple development, as well as laugh and enjoy the shenanigans. And it is during those two books that we meet the rest of the crew, with Adam and Lily ending up being the next two to couple up. They got their own book that allowed for us to journey with them towards coupledom...and during those three books, we see bits and pieces of Mark and Beth. More in passing than anything.

Then we got the wedding novella...book 3.1...which was the lead up to the nuptials of Adam and Lily. Now it was on to the next couple...or so we were all led to believe.

This book is nothing more than a novella, or Lawyers in Love 3.2, which served ZERO PURPOSE. There is absolutely nothing noteworthy here...no real character development or display, which leaves the readers still unacquainted with characters they knew of, but not a lot about...nor is there any real couple TIME TOGETHER that has any real value, as all of it was in the center of other drama, shenanigans and, eventually, ridiculous and unbelievable hijinks.

This work was literally only 72% story, with the last 28% being nothing more than pimping other authors. What a waste of book space, which would have been much better served as being made into a real novel with real character development, a real journey, a real storyline and not just an excuse to send the "Mystery Machine" in to solve the crime.

This was so bizarre that it came over more as a short story than a novella, as it surely did not qualify as a real installment to this series....a series that I not only really enjoyed but found funny. Not so much here.

This book was also HORRENDOUSLY edited. It was riddled with missing and misused punctuation, incorrect word use, misspelled words and some odd word order.

It also appeared to be the product of awful beta readers, as it seems no one took the time to truly read the story, or they would have seen the grammatical issues, as well as the fact that it slipped into the incorrect POV. Add that to the fact that no one pointed out that we didn't get a full story or a real focus on the couple and that is just a prime example of what you do not want from a beta.

When your background characters play a larger role in a book that was supposed to be about two characters, you end up with a couple that no one still knows about, and a story that felt like it was rushed or just filler material.

This was an epic fail for me. Really a one star read, but I am giving it TWO because Adam earned one all on his own...who in true Adam fashion, saved the day.

2.5 stars. Disappointing. This was a quickie shell of a story that jumped around and ended at 72%. No real fleshed out characters, story or romance and an abrupt WTH ending. Too bad, really like this author and love these characters, but this was a disappointing effort that read more like an afterthought. Lots of potential just felt like the author lost interest. Wanted so much more for Mark and Beth and had been looking forward to this one. A definite let down.

This is the story of Beth, sister to Braden (books 1 &2), and Mark, who is a friend and now co-worker of Braden’s. Braden and Mark went to law school together, and Beth has had a crush on him since she first met him when they visited her parents home while on break from law school.

Beth is a beautiful, very put together, smart, woman. However, when she is around Mark, she is struck dumb. Further, she turns into a complete klutz. She has actually, without meaning to, physically hurt Mark and herself with her awkwardness while being around him.

Mark has finally realized that he doesn’t want to continue with hook-ups with various and sundry women who are also not looking for a commitment. It also doesn’t hurt that he finds himself falling for Beth and her endearing awkwardness around him.

This is another wonderfully funny and sexy story from N.M. Silber. The scene where they are putting a computer together is priceless! Again, the books are a series but can be read as stand alones. This one is a little shorter which makes it perfect when you have a couple of hours of escape time!

ADDENDUM: Since my review skills seem to be "lacking."

First and foremost, I have to stress this story was FUNNY. I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud while reading it. My daughter even asked "What are you reading?" because of how much I was chortling. And this is what I love most about Ms. Silber's books, even over the romance and the sexy scenes - the humor contained in them.

I am also a fan of the other characters in all the books, and getting to see how they are branching out by starting their own office, and what is going on with them beyond their weddings and falling in love, is fun to read as well. What can I say, I am a sucker for Adam!

Yes, it was shorter than the others but that did not take away from anything for me; I am a big fan of novellas anyway and enjoy having short reads from time to time like this one. When I purchased it, the timing was perfect after a hectic week. Mark and Beth (especially Beth's awkwardness) gave me a welcome release in the form of laughter and warm fuzzies.

FIVE FREAKING AWESOME STARS.

Mark and Beth have been avoiding the attraction they've had toward one another for a while now, despite the fact that it's glaringly apparent to everyone around them. But when the opportunity presents itself for Mark to escort Beth to the galas she has to frequent, the walls between Mark and Beth finally come down, and a sweet and sexy romance ensues.

Winning Appeal was a quick, enjoyable read in the spirit of the rest of the books in Silber's series. I did enjoy getting to know Mark and Beth, or at least what we did get to know of them. This time around the romance and connection felt rushed. I would have loved more depth and detail. I also kinda wished it wasn't dual POV. Some of the anticipation and mystery was missing. But Beth and Mark were still a fun couple, with a great honesty and openness about them, and the maturity to accept each other's pasts and delve into the future relatively drama-free.

Along with this new romance is a bit of mystery-solving, reminiscent of the first two books in the series. I got a kick out of the gang being together, back to their sneaky selves, and the wonderful camaraderie between them. I genuinely like these characters and enjoy Silber's witty writing and mix of fun and sexy. This time around was a nice read, there were just too many things missing to make it a great read. But I'm still looking forward to more in this series.

I was so looking forward to this book, but after reading I am left really disappointed.

This is one of my favorite series that I recommend to people, but this book was such a let down I don't understand what happened.

It was really short, I didn't realize it was categorized as a novella until after I finished reading. I felt sort of tricked, everywhere I looked and read about this book it was classified as a novel not once did I see the word novella. On top of it being so short, it felt so rushed. There was none of the fun bantering and time spent with each other like in the other books, it all felt very fast paced and not in a good way.
It is upsetting because this book was supposed to be released in September but the author pushed it back to rework and fit in Mark's point of view. I loved that Nadine did this and felt grateful that an author really listened to her readers, and also wanted to put out quality to work. But this was not at all what I was expecting. Given the delay I would have expected much more than what I got.

Even some of the characters that I love just felt different. Like Braden, I usually love him in all of the books, but in this one he felt like he was overstepping his bounds as a brother and it made me slightly uncomfortable. Beth is a grown ass woman she doesn't need her brother setting parameters on her sex life with her boyfriend. I loved that Beth told Mark how she felt about that and stood her ground that she was capable of making decisions in her life regarding him. The whole asking for Braden's blessing was also something that rubbed me the wrong way.

Even though there were hilarious parts(the mint incident and the limo driver. I was dying!) and a couple sexy parts I can't give this a higher rating. I will continue to read this series, and I'm hopeful for Abby and Jacob's book. Hopefully it will make up for this one.

I'm having mixed feelings on this installment of the Lawyers in Love series. It started out great. Lots of hilarious dialogue, catching up with great characters, an interesting start to the budding relationship between Beth and Mark. Unfortunately, I felt like there wasn't enough. We got to see how they got together but we didn't get much "couple time". How were they after a few weeks or months? There was also lots of hot steamy sex scenes, and what could have been an intriguing mystery thrown in. I loved every bit... Until the end. I was under the impression this was going to be a full length book like the first three. Now I'm wondering if this was supposed to just be a novella?! When I got to the end, which I had no idea it was going to end so abruptly, with a sum up, I was shocked and, to be completely honest, pissed. I felt like there could have been a lot more. I wanted a lot more!! I feel like a guy with blue balls, an unsatisfying ending! I looked at the % on my kindle and flipped back and forth thinking it was a joke or I was wrong somehow, but no. It ended at 73%! For what story there was, it was a total 5 star read. With the way it ended added in, I'm being generous giving it a 4. I was really upset that I didn't get more of this authors awesome writing. Hopefully the next installment will be longer.

I wanted a Mark story since the first book in the series. I was really disappointed with this story though. It was so short, there was no character development even the mystery was rushed. it was set up just fine but then it just ended like the author didn't want to write anymore and just decided to wrap things in the last 10 pages.

This book just wasn't of the same quality as the previous books in the series. There was so much potential in exploring these characters and I can only hope there will be another book based on them in the future.

The statement that size doesn't really matter can hold true in some instances. This book is one of those moments. Although "Winning Appeal" is more on the shorter side, the book still delivers and fulfills all expectations.
And N.M. Silber gives us all the things we have come to expect from her books - romance, suspense, hot wild sex and loads and loads of laughter. All of it delivered with a class and sophistication that is hard to find. It is intelligent and witty, often tongue-in-cheek humour that has made me a devoted N.M. Silber fan.

Beth's and Mark's story had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face and couldn't breathe. It's the best laugh I had in months. This is the perfect cure when feeling moody or blue. It's bound to brighten your mood instantly and made me one of those people who look like they've lost their marbles, because I couldn't stop grinning.
And there is so much to grin about.
But I also learned a few things.
1.) I want to worth with all those crazy people at the Justice Project, so N.M. Silber better turns it into reality.
2.) I want to have all of them as friends.
3.) N.M. Silber not only has class, but a great taste in music.

This book focuses, as mentioned on Beth and Mark, whom we both met in the previous installments of the series. They always seemed very laid-back, relaxed and reasonable. The first impression proved to be right.
Unlike the other couples those two are surprisingly free of drama and baggage, getting quite quickly to the point of admitting their feelings. But even the short journey is quite adventurous and at times bumpy - especially due to the fact that Beth comes klutzy and awkward around Mark. This makes for some well-timed and well-dosed comedy.
And once they get better acquainted - in the biblical sense - their chemistry doesn't lose any charm. But how could it with characters like Beth and Mark.

Beth is a really sweet woman. Non-judgmental, open-minded and understanding. Yet, she isn't naïve or a doormat. She stands up for herself and what she believes in - but she does so in a classy and not a catty way. Despite her background and wealthy upbringing, she's down-to-earth and not conceited, which already earned her loads of brownie points. Her awkwardness around Mark makes her endearing and cute. She's not insecure or a bubblehead. She's just really smitten with Mark.

And how could she not be. Mark is sexy, smart, sophisticated, sweet and fights for the underdog - what more could a woman want? He might be a player until Beth, but one with class and respect for women. He's focused on helping other and takes his job seriously. The same goes for his feelings for Beth - not scared in the least to commit. There wasn't a single moment when I wanted to slap him. His wit and sarcasm were entertaining and made me like him immediately.

And if that wouldn't be enough for an awesome book, once you add the rest of the gang with Gab, Braden, Adam, Lily, Cam, Jess and Bruce as well as the new face in the story, Caitlin, it doesn't get much better.
That coupled with Columbo style crimes and crime solving from the modern-day Scooby gang, is a guaranteed success. One that you won't be able to put down.

5+ charming, witty, perfect comedy stars.

I read so many books that, when I find an author who writes hilarious romantic comedy, I always wonder if the next books could ever be as funny as the previous one. Well, N.m. Silber has NEVER disappointed me.
This book is about Mark and Beth, who both work at a law firm. Mark is a lawyer and Beth is the one who brings in all the money for this non-profit firm. They've been circling each other for a while now but, Beth's brother is Mark's best friend and, if nothing else, Mark believes in abiding by the "bro code."
When roped into escorting Beth to all of the society functions she has to attend, Mark has a talk with Braden, who gives his permission to date Beth, with certain stipulations.
These two together are like an old keystone cops movie.
The scene in Philly on the Ben Franklin parkway involving an Altoid gave me a case of the giggles that lasted 30 minutes.
Yes, it's a novella and yes I would have loved another hundred pages but, Ms. Silber manages to give us another hilarious read despite the short length of the book. As far as I'm concerned, keep 'em coming, Nadine!!!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. I love this series, it starts with one couple and each book adds to the couples and the series gets better and better. Beth is Braden's sister and Mark is his best friend. They have liked each other for years but Mark was afraid the Braden wouldn't want him dating his sister. When the go to a fund raiser together, that are drawn to each other more. And with Beth so tied up in knots when she is around Mark, there are some painful moments for them both. All the friends are lawyers or have something to do with law, except one and she is a writer. This series is fun, light hearten and a little suspense thrown in too. If you haven't read this series yet, then you should and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Can't wait for more.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads

This is the fourth in the series, and you really do need to read them all to fully appreciate why this is such a good read. It has been a while since I read them, but the characters soon woke up in my mind and it was good to see how life is treating them.

Beth and Mark were great secondary players in the previous books, so it was inevitable that this would be a fun ride. It is just as silly funny as the others and the point that a politician's son is lauded for his wild behaviour, but a daughter's is frowned upon, rang very true. I was glad that there wasn't too much brother/best friend wants sister angst.

Looking forward to the next installment.

I love this series. It has been one of my favorites since I read Law of Attraction a year ago. From the moment we experience the slight flirtation between Mark and Beth at the Pierce's home I couldn't wait to read more about them. So when it was announced that they would indeed get together and have their own book I was thrilled! Originally slated for a late summer release I purchased it the moment it became available. I think you can definitely feel the heat between the leads, and as always it's a fun exciting read. It is shorter than the other books in the series, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. I would have liked more meat to the story, but Silber is still an automatic one-click for me.

Absolutely loved it! Yes it is shorter than her other Legal Affairs novels, however every page is packed with the highest quality writing and humour! Upon reflection I'm actually glad that Mark and Beth were given a novella rather than a full length novel as I'm not sure that their story wouldn't have suffered under the additional length and I really did enjoy it. Their courtship is straightforward and the dramatic element is kept pretty tight and it worked very well, if it had been expanded upon further I think it could have been really easy for those extra scenes to just act as filler and both Silber and this story are far far better than that! This book was by turns, wickedly funny, scorchingly sexy and breathtakingly romantic and I can't recommend it enough! Roll on the next novel!!!

Mark and Beth finally quit fantasizing and got together. It was too funny how Braden tried to warn him not to have his sister like his wife. Adam and Cam sure contributed to the sarcasm of that situation. Epic moment was Bruce looking like a "White Sale". Lily had me laughing too hard woth that one.

I have many quotes highlighted that showed "Nadine craft". The references to classic mystery group Scoopy Doo and Team, the retirement of Fred and Ethal, and just pure comedy. Hummus for Hubris. Yep, I had Adam WTF look but laughed nonetheless.

Mark and Beth found home and just clicked. I cheered when he chose girlfriend over dying just once. Nice read and thank you for staying true to the storyline of the series.

Some novellas leave you feeling slightly empty, not this one, it is as detailed as a full novel with all the elements you expect from this series, and if you haven't yet started The Lawyers In Love series....why not? I can't recommend this series enough and this book had me belly laughing from page one. If I'm ever on a downer this is the series I turn to because I know it is hysterically funny, sharp and witty, sexy, dynamic and clever with characters that you love from the get go. I love that the female and male characters have as much fun in bed as well as out of it and that it's mutual, with respect, love and passion from both sides equally. GET THIS SERIES, it's hot, sexy and funny as hell!

I was really excited for this book to come out, because I am definitely an N.M. Silber fan. The book started out well, and there were some parts that were absolutely hilarious. Unfortunately, I felt a bit cheated when I got to the end of the book. The book itself stopped at 72% or 142 of 201 and that was disappointing. The story felt very rushed- especially once the main characters officially got together. I'm not sure if this had to do with a deadline or what. Obviously, I will continue to read the Lawyers in Love series, and probably anything else Ms. Silber publishes. I just hope that the future stories are more developed.

2.5⭐️I was a little let down by this one. There didn't seem to be a strong connection between Mark and Beth it was like they were the last two single people in their group of friends, so lets put them together because, one likes to paint and other likes music. The story felt a little rush and ending was anti-climactic. There were a few funny moments but not enough to keep my interest, but will continue to read more from this series.

I think this series is getting a little tired now. What started off as cute and sassy is now just a bit stale.
I didn't find the gags in this to be terribly funny and the romance between mark and Beth felt rushed. Given how short the story was that was inevitable.
I think its a big rough too when a story stops at 72% and then gives you a further 28% of advertising. Kind of makes you feel short changed.
I think I'm done with these lawyers in love.

To say that I devoured this book would be an understatement. I love N.M Silber's books. I've read and recommended every one of them that has been published so far. Each time a new one is released it immediately moves to the top of my to read list. I love them that much. There's enough wit and humor to keep you laughing out loud and enough charm to make you swoon. I HIGHLY recommend this series!

Kind of disappointed. It felt very rushed like both were already attracted to each other? There didn't seem to be much build up. And maybe I'm just cynical but both Beth and Mark seem to like each other so quickly, I mean come on! A girl needs some drama and build up.

It was basically just
Mark:"I like you"
Beth:"I like you too"
Mark: "let's fuck"
Beth: "okay!"
