2 Not So Hot Stars
I can see where this book would work for those looking for whacky humor and not anything remotely related to a romance novel.
For the rest of us, not so much.
I miss Gabby and Braeden. I miss Lily and Adam and to be honest, I feel a little cheated after reading this because that's the type of story I was expecting. You know, where the romantic leads actually interact once in awhile.
I'm officially done with this series until the relationships become the focus again.
I can see where this book would work for those looking for whacky humor and not anything remotely related to a romance novel.

What in the world is going on with this series? It started off great. The first three books were fantastic. The marriage novella was pretty good. Then came WINNING APPEAL, which was promised to be book 4 in this series, and was nothing more than a novella that spent more time focusing on others than the actual couple it was supposed to be highlighting. This book was more of the same.
This installment, which is once again being called a novel, is nothing more than a novella in length and stops at 80%. Just ends...DONE. This is supposed to be about Jacob Sachs and Abby Roth and their journey to couple-dom, but Jacob is almost no where to be found. He does not even show up until about 30% into the book, barely makes so much as another notable appearance until about 50%, then shows up again at the end of the book.
This book had zero romance. One kiss, a phone sex session, and an implication that sex actually took place. There was no courting, no dates, not sexting, not pop in visits, nothing that even indicated that this couple actually liked each other, except for the endless mental blather that was in Abby's head.
This installment was also riddled with countless grammatical errors.

Add all of this to the redundant, moronic feminism, "I am woman hear me roar" psychobabble, and I pretty much hated Abby by the middle of this book. I actually just kept looking forward to Adam showing up. Thank God he did. He was the only consistent highlight to this lackluster nonsense. While Abby was tooting her "VOTES FOR WOMEN" rhetoric in her mind, she was behaving both mentally and physically in complete contradiction. But just like a secondary character in this story, I, too, find Gloria Steinem to be the anti-Christ and find female characters inspired by feminism unappealing and unlikable because they remove all element of romance in a love story. Exhibit A...this book.
This book was such a gigantic mess, that I spent more time praying for Adam to show up and correcting all the mistakes in the book, that the highlight for me was when it came to an end at 80%. Finally put out of my misery.
Well, if you are looking for a ridiculous, semi-adult version of a Nancy Drew book, here it is.
If you are looking to find out who Jacob really is and what he is about, as well as read a great romance...keep going. None of that will be found here.
The fact that I wasted $2.99 on this book when it was nothing more than a pamphlet is rather offensive, as I did not find the work here to be worth the money.
I think this series has run its course and I think it should finally be left in the past The characters we all once knew, were intrigued by and were hoping to get to know more about and see more of are a distant memory. Sad to say, but it is time for Adam and the crew to be put out to pasture.

It pains me to say this because I love the author's work, but I was really disappointed with this book.
Sure, if you consider the various funny quotes I posted in the status update, you would think I was having a blast, and at the time I was, but that was all in the very beginning of the book. These fantastic humor part was what salvage the book for me, since I really love the author's brand of humor, together with the lightness of the reading, it normally is a very "feel good" kind of book.
The biggest problem I had with this read was the romance, or in this case, the lack there of. It was like the romantic aspect was working in a very fainted background.
I can actually resume all the "romantic" interactions in a few short sentences.
Abby Roth gave up her job at a very prestigious law firm, to open a private firm with her two best friends (not really, since they never discuss their love life, for me that was weird) to regain her joy for her work. She has a big crush for the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Jacob Sachs, and she has an assortment of pictures and videos of him that provide the material for her "spank-bank".
And she tells us this even before they met personally for the fist time, which only happens around 42% of the book, from that point I really could not foresee good things for their relationship. They meet in his office, and this really struck me and very weird,
and since it was never explain, I would assume she is correct in her assumption. Maybe it's just me, but do people this days keep the photos they have with their exes all over their offices, after the break up? Because for me it sure feels strange (even stranger than having sex with your sister-in-law's ex-boyfriend, and that is weird enough, Lol).
Anyway... They both have such a pragmatic way of viewing things, with a detachment that makes us really question their feeling, if they have them at all. Even their first kiss, which only happens around 70%, is preceded with a lengthy discussing where Jacob analyzes with Abby their potential relationship like he is... I don't even know anymore... That is where he explains that he doesn't have time for a girlfriend (charming...), and she agrees with a DISCRETE (I hated that he was always pointing out this fact because of his job, like she was a dirty little secret) physical relationship, after they case is solved.
Synthesizing it, he can't resist going down on her (only descriptive sex scene) before agreed, but after Jacob refuses to go together with her to a function he is also attending, saying that people will think they are dating, when they are just fucking, and that hurts her. During the party he says he thinks he wants to date her, then they solve the case, they go home together, again they quickly discuss dating, but nothing long-term, she agree that job takes a big role there, and she is happy with that, for now, and it's hinted that they have sex for the first time. And it ends like this.
I will stop the ranting, and just point out again that it is a shame that all the other plot took a bigger role than the couple itself, and that transformed the romance in a very analytical relationship. And I missed the original gang so much.
And like Winston S. Churchill would say “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” So I will, undoubtedly, continue to read N. M. Silber, and she will continue in my auto-read list.
On a side note, it takes a great person to recognize her mistakes, and if you take a look at the author's Facebook page, you will see that she fully acknowledges that POA was below the expectations, and she APOLOGIZES for it (she is amazing like that!).
For those of you who were angry with the constant postponing of POA, I attach the message the author posted to the fans, so that you are aware that author's and have bigger problems than release dates, and even so they never forget their fans, and for me she proved it when she had no need to do it.

Dear Dina, I sincerely hope you are on your way to a full recovery, I admire you courage and strength, through all this adversities. It's amazing than even in your worst time you are worried about the fans, and still managed to bring a smile to our faces, and a laughter to our lives through your books (this was something that was definitely not missing in this one).
I heartfeltly wish you all the best and that you continue to be the strong woman that you showed us you are.

I was nothing if not pragmatic. I reminded myself that not only did I not even know the man, but he was also reportedly an egocentric workaholic, who my brother disliked, and my sister-in-law had slept with. That didn’t bode well for a future together.”

When I found out I had cancer in February, I was in shock. I have two Autistic sons who are only ten and eight, and I was scared that they would be left without their mom to protect them and take care of them. Was this supposed to be a novel or novella? Considering that I absolutely loved the banter, the extremely funny court room scenes and the interactions between the main characters in the first 3 books, this book was a massive let down for me. I was actually looking forward to Jacobs story as I felt that out of all the male leads his could have been the most in depth but unfortunately he was hardly even in the story and when he was he was so very wooden and one dimensional. I also found it really hard to like Abby by the end of the book. I feel that if this series continues it needs to go back to the original characters that are already developed and the humorous court room shenanigans that made the first books so great. I think it can get back to being great again and I look forward to being able to read and love the next book in this series.

It has been a while since we have had Lawyers In Love series, so it was great to get back into their world.
The previous books in the series have had me laughing out loud, and whilst there were some really funny moments in this book, it just didn't grab me as much as the others have. I was left wanting more of Jacob and Abby, as the story did seem to focus more on Abby's friends and and their crazy clients more than the lawyers themselves.
It was a quick, enjoyable read and I look forward to what Ms Silber brings use next.

I loved the first 3 books of this series, they're romantic and hilarious, which is exactly what I love, low angst stuff. Unfortunately I missed the romance in this book, it was more of a chick lit and the focus was not on the couple, more on the heroine and I wasn't expecting this change of genre. It's not a bad book, but I was looking forward to the romance that was hinted on the blurb, so maybe if she creates another series to publish this different writing style? I don't know, I really wanted to like it but couldn't.

I guess I'm a bit disappointed by Abby's story, because I really like her! And I waited so long to read her story with Sachs. I laughed less and there wasn't that much banter between the main characters. With this installement, Sachs is still as mysterious as he was in the previous books.
I was quite delighted by Adam's appearances and unfortunately they were the only moments I really enjoyed the book.

Not the style we used to read, it's short, less fun, even the clan still there, Adam's sister with Lily's ex.
Not funny enough to but it's still good to have something new, mysterious even the reason for being bad is stupid.

Nice but way, way too short. Therefore not enough characters development, no real "meat". What a pity.
I've nothing against novella, but when you are waiting for a full novel, it's a deception.

Javob and Abby
This was a little slow to get stsrted, i found i wasnt engaged in the story as i was with the other ones in this series. It did get better but as i started to like this story it ended. I would have liked it to be a little longer and find out a bit more on how there relationship developed. Anyway this was not one of the best stories in this series but it had potential.

N.M. Silber and her humor are back!!! I have loved the Lawyers in Love series since the very beginning and this book didn't disappoint. I couldn't wait to read about Abby and I'm glad I was finally able to. This book is a little different then the other books in the series but that's what happens, I think, when you have different characters. Not every book is going to be the same and I like that about a series, especially N.M. Silber's.

A book of this length needs to grab you with plot and characters PDQ. I got bored when the first few chapters were all about the h & her bffs. Plot, people? Characters? And, no, a preference for mojitos over Manhattans does not constitute character definition.

As somebody who's been a fan of N.M. Silber since her first book, THE LAW OF ATTRACTION, I have to admit I had some qualms about this book. From his appearance as Lily Adler's older ex-boyfriend in LEGAL BRIEFS, Federal Prosecutor Jacob Sachs was pretty much my least favorite of her characters - manipulative, arrogant, entitled and from all I could see thoroughly detestable. Knowing this book would feature him romantically involved with Lily's sister-in-law Abby Roth felt like a formula for disaster. To my happy surprise, she not only carried it off - she's written her best book to date, a enjoyable light mystery-thriller with strong romance/erotica elements that nonetheless feel organic to the story.
The book opens with Abby Roth, early Thirties co-owner of The Law Film of Solomon Merino & Roth - which, as Abby informs us, sounds more impressive than it is. A former junior counsel at a huge law firm, she formed SM&R with her close friends Dana Solomon and Magdelena Merino - that this point, their cases mostly involve keeping Sweet Old Radical Ladies out of jail for mooning local politicos, and protecting the rights of trust-fund hacktivist wannabes. One particular wannabe, Kevin "Trog" Collins, has caught the attention of Federal Prosecutors for what sounds on the face of it to be a stupid stunt, breaking into a private library with a paywall to download some articles for a girl he met online that he was sweet on, "Deon Flux" (just like Peter Chung's MTV Sexpot Warrior "Aeon Flux", only different!).
One of the things I like about Silber's books is that none of the main characters are asked to Carry the Idiot Ball to keep the story in motion. Abby and Jacob realize quickly that Trog, who's far from the World's Most Dangerous Hacker, was clearly played by"Deon Flux" - and that the odds are "Ms. Flux" isn't even female! Abby makes a deal with Jacob to have Trog deposed on what he knows so they can find out what's really going on in exchange for dropping any cybercrime charges against him -
Except that, right at the same time, Federal Prosecutor and Computer Crimes Unit head Randall Greene goes missing, leaving behind cryptic clues that seem to implicate Trog in some major Internet villainy! Jacob dutifully pursues this angle though he's clearly skeptical, and accepts Abby hanging around with surprising ease. It doesn't long before Jacob admits to Abby he's interested in her pursuing the case because he's attracted to her - and, well, the feeling is mutual, so both engage in some unprofessional but nonetheless HAWT! making out behavior.
Jacob comes off here as much less dislikable while still maintaining his essential Jacob-ness: We can see that a large part of what rubbed Abby's kid brother Adam the wrong way about Jacob was his intensity and grim determination (Adam's determined, but he's kind of a notorious smarty-pants) - and the fact that he still felt...something for Lily, who Adam finally admitted he was in love with! Seeing Jacob through Abby's eyes reveals a more sympathetic side, and even a dry sense of humor - and unlike her brother, Abby finds Jacob's Alpha Male shading into Dom streak...kind of hot, actually.
If only Trog wasn't that unhappy mix of paranoid, horny and not very bright.... "Deon Flux" keeps leading him by the nose into ever-increasingly guilty-appearing situations, including going to Randall Greene's apartment where there's a large puddle of Greene's blood on the floor! Perhaps Jacob should have put Trog in Protective Custody - but Trog being Trog, that probably would have been counterproductive.
The mystery elements are well-handled, and the thriller-suspense ones have a welcome dose of humor to keep matters breezy and fun (think a female version of Carl Hiassen or Ross Thomas). Unlike a typical romance (which this is being marketed as), PoA doesn't end with "the couple leaving the chapel, eternally tied" (bonus points if you get the reference!) - thankfully, it also doesn't climax with Abby playing Damsel-in-Distress as the real villain of the piece gets the stuffing kicked out of him by Jacob and/or Adam! (Rather the reverse, thank the Goddess.)
This is a book I really enjoyed, and I'm looking forward to reading about the further mystery/romance adventures of Abby Roth and Jacob Sachs. N.M. Silber's built a strong foundation here for a long-running series of comedy/mysteries with some steamy romance - as I mentioned when I was praising this book on social media, it's like Perry Mason Meets Eve Dallas, only funny !
The book opens with Abby Roth, early Thirties co-owner of The Law Film of Solomon Merino & Roth - which, as Abby informs us, sounds more impressive than it is. A former junior counsel at a huge law firm, she formed SM&R with her close friends Dana Solomon and Magdelena Merino - that this point, their cases mostly involve keeping Sweet Old Radical Ladies out of jail for mooning local politicos, and protecting the rights of trust-fund hacktivist wannabes. One particular wannabe, Kevin "Trog" Collins, has caught the attention of Federal Prosecutors for what sounds on the face of it to be a stupid stunt, breaking into a private library with a paywall to download some articles for a girl he met online that he was sweet on, "Deon Flux" (just like Peter Chung's MTV Sexpot Warrior "Aeon Flux", only different!).
One of the things I like about Silber's books is that none of the main characters are asked to Carry the Idiot Ball to keep the story in motion. Abby and Jacob realize quickly that Trog, who's far from the World's Most Dangerous Hacker, was clearly played by"Deon Flux" - and that the odds are "Ms. Flux" isn't even female! Abby makes a deal with Jacob to have Trog deposed on what he knows so they can find out what's really going on in exchange for dropping any cybercrime charges against him -
Except that, right at the same time, Federal Prosecutor and Computer Crimes Unit head Randall Greene goes missing, leaving behind cryptic clues that seem to implicate Trog in some major Internet villainy! Jacob dutifully pursues this angle though he's clearly skeptical, and accepts Abby hanging around with surprising ease. It doesn't long before Jacob admits to Abby he's interested in her pursuing the case because he's attracted to her - and, well, the feeling is mutual, so both engage in some unprofessional but nonetheless HAWT! making out behavior.
Jacob comes off here as much less dislikable while still maintaining his essential Jacob-ness: We can see that a large part of what rubbed Abby's kid brother Adam the wrong way about Jacob was his intensity and grim determination (Adam's determined, but he's kind of a notorious smarty-pants) - and the fact that he still felt...something for Lily, who Adam finally admitted he was in love with! Seeing Jacob through Abby's eyes reveals a more sympathetic side, and even a dry sense of humor - and unlike her brother, Abby finds Jacob's Alpha Male shading into Dom streak...kind of hot, actually.
If only Trog wasn't that unhappy mix of paranoid, horny and not very bright.... "Deon Flux" keeps leading him by the nose into ever-increasingly guilty-appearing situations, including going to Randall Greene's apartment where there's a large puddle of Greene's blood on the floor! Perhaps Jacob should have put Trog in Protective Custody - but Trog being Trog, that probably would have been counterproductive.
The mystery elements are well-handled, and the thriller-suspense ones have a welcome dose of humor to keep matters breezy and fun (think a female version of Carl Hiassen or Ross Thomas). January 14, 2017I adore this series! I think I've missed a few, so I'll have to go back and catch up. Great characters, though Jacob fell a little flat and bland for me. The women are always smart, strong and hysterical. Love the writing!!

I loved this book!
Abby Roth, sister to Adam Roth (who is my favorite for sure), has a law practice with her two friends, Dana and Lisa. Each lawyer has their own niche. This short story centers around a client of Dana's client nicknamed "Trog" who considers himself a hacker with a conscious.
What is entertaining about this story are the clients that Abby and her friends represent in Court, and the humor surrounding why they are in court. I work for a lawyer, so it is easy for me to find humor in the story.
Yes, it's a bit short and could probably use a bit more from Jacob Sachs. However, it was still a very entertaining read that I really enjoyed. N.M. Silber is a master at comedic writing, and I know I'm going to have a great laugh when I read one of her books. And quite frankly, it kind of sets the tone for more of a story about Abby and Jacob as they deepen their relationship.
Further, Adam is in it and just adds to the humor. I love Adam Roth - he's the bomb.

I've loved every single one of author N.M. Silber's Lawyers in Love series. Here we get a chance to see Jacob Sachs again. From the previous book, we know that attorney Adam Roth and Jacob Sachs loathe each other. So things get interesting when Adam's sister Abby (also an attorney) develops a crush on Jacob, only to find that the attraction isn't one-sided. There were lots of hilarious parts... the yoga studio scene cracked me up, as well as some mystery and suspense and some steamy scenes as well. I really enjoyed the dialog between Abby and Jacob. My only lament is that this book left me wanting more. I want more Abby and Jacob!! I know N.M. Silber has some more books up her sleeve with this series and will be revisiting some of our favorite characters in this series, so I can't wait to read those!! Though this is in a series, this could also be read as a standalone. (though the entire series is definitely worth reading, and reading again!)

Taking into account the BLURB and the book cover, I was expecting to read a funny romance novel. The author's Amazon page didn't contain any info stating this book would be a different genre than the previous books or anything like that. So I was very surprised to find out that this book was basically chick lit. It contained no romance what so ever. It wasn't sexy. Some scenes were funny but for the most part I had to force myself to finish this book. If you're looking for something funny and romantic to read, skip this one. Actually just skip this one, because the mystery aspect of this left much to be desired as well. And Lord, don't get me started on all the typos, missing words, spelling mistakes and so forth.

This isn't the best book in the series, but it still has the sharp wit and excellent quips that the author is known for, there's just not as much of it as i'm used to. Abby & Jacob are well matched, both as professionals and in the bedroom & we are introduced to new characters, but they don't gel as well together as the scooby gang. This book is also not as fast paced, and because of the slower feel to it, it became more like a thriller than a fun packed, slightly madcap, laugh out loud read that i've come to expect. A good read but let's get back to the tried and tested formula that makes this series such a massive success.

there was no actual story development between jacob and abby. it was a waste of my time reading this book because the whole book feels unfinished to me.

I loved this book. It was worth the wait. I was not patient enough to download the edited version but it was still entertaining. It was a bit different than Ms. Silber's earlier works but the gist of the mystery was intriguing. The relationship could also have been addressed a bit more but in the end, it met my needs! :) I would definitely recommend this book. I am eagerly waiting for any additional works from Ms. Silber!

Another great addition to the Lawyers in Love series. I loved the mystery element in this book and felt it was very sexy. The banter between the character Adam and Jacob was very witty as well and had me in stitches. I hope this line of the series will continue and Jacob, Abby and her friends have many more adventures.

I'm I the only one that thinks the story is incomplete. The hardly saw any on the story between Jacob and Abby. I would have love to see more of Jacob and Abby family. I really hope there is a sequel coming up.

I liked that book very much. It was not too cheesy but at the same time cute. I regret that it was not longer considering how long we had to wait for it !
