Want to learn more about history, but don’t think you have the time? Think again.World War Two was the most destructive, devastating conflict in world history, with major battles stretching across the world; this was truly a global conflict in every sense. An estimated 17 million soldiers were killed on all sides, with civilian casualties reaching more than double that figure in the Soviet Union and China alone. The Very Brief History series is intended to give the reader a short, concise account of the most important events in world history. Each book provides the reader with the essential facts concerning a particular event or person; no distractions, just the essential facts, allowing the reader to master the subject in the shortest time possible. With The Very Brief History series, anyone can become a history expert!
The author does a fair job of covering a huge topic in a brief space. There are the usual grammatical and spelling errors that you will find in this series, but there aren't as many as in other volumes. Of course, in such a brief work, one has to make decisions about what to include and what to leave out, but I find it interesting that the author adds a little detail to some battles but doesn't refer to the D-Day invasion by name. It is swept under a general reference to the invasion of France.
Interesting and to the point. If textbooks were done like this title when I was in high school, I'f have chosen history as a college major. It is also a scary reminder that history apparently does repeat itself.
Succint and good introduction for people developing an interest in this part of history. I thought the book could benefit from proof reading and 1 or 2 facts stated I was unsure of being precisely correct.
Does a great job of covering the most essential information about the war and provides enough background to orient a reader who later wants to study the war in more detail.
