A great installment to the My Little Monster Manga series, I'm loving it so far. I think I liked the anime better because of how detailed the art style was, but this is also awesome. It's a fun series, where everything is unexpected and filled with surprises. Not only that but there are also characters that are easy to relate to and the story is very realistic.

Every time I deal with another person, I’m reminded how little control I have over my life.

This is the third volume in the My Little Monster Manga series. It is about a cold-hearted girl named Shizuku who is only focused on her studies. She has a fear that the more people she lets into her life, the more it will affect her studies in a negative way. Haru is a guy who got suspended on the first day of school due to a fight, and ever since then, he never returned. Shizuku was given the job to give Haru his school belongings, homework, and somehow convince him to come back to school. During these events, the two form an unusual friendship that leaves their feelings in confusion.

Another volume means more characters, which results in more drama!

Yamakan is an amazing character, I like how he is so calm and smooth with his actions. I love how he drives Haru crazy and their fights are hilarious. Shizuku is her same old self, she is confused and honest. She tells Haru how she feels almost immediately and that is what I love about her. Most of the time, the two characters in any romance manga/anime, would deny their feelings. These two are so much more different from that. Natsume is a great friend and I love how she wants to protect everyone. Sasayan is great but he needs more time in the manga so that I could understand his character.

The relationships between the characters in this volume got stronger. Natsume and Shizuku are so cute, their friendship is so sweet. Shizuku just needs time to get used to having so much company. Haru and Shizuku's relationship is still confusing, but they are super honest with each other. Yamakan and Haru have a hilarious relationship, they are rivals. Yamakan and Shizuku have a nice relationship, they talk to each other like friends and I like that.

I am hoping to see more character development in the next few volumes. So far, these volumes were fun and interesting, but I want to learn more about each and every one of the characters. I want to see where the plot takes me and what will happen to the characters in the future. I can't wait to jump right into the next volume!

I recommend this to anyone who wants a fun, fast read! This is perfect for you!

P.S. I am currently watching Black Butler and it is awesome! If you have any anime recommendations, please message me. If you want to talk about anime, you could also message me, it's fun talking about anime and different characters!

Mitty and Haru continue to the wrong timing with one another. While Mitty's internal process is pretty clear, Haru's is more opaque. I'm still not clear on why he turned Mitty down when he seemed interested both before and after she asked him out.

I'd forgotten about the strange Rich Kid from book one and his thug entourage. We learn this time that he's known Haru since preschool! And Haru's brother did something to him that he's still traumatized about (pretty much the only emotional reaction the guy has let show so far).

This isn't a favorite series, but I'm interested in continuing.

Series review! 5/5!

I've gotten fed up with tsundere characters so I went out to test/read more of this other subtype known as kuudere (google: kuu "cool" + dere "lovestruck"; literally: cold and emotionless characters that slowly show their feelings). A quick google search of top rated/favorited ones included this (and Akuma to Love Song, which I stopped reading a loooong way back and must re-read again soon) so I did.

And I am pleased. Very pleased. One of the reasons why I stopped reading shoujo mangas is because of MCs that bottle everything up. I don't like it when there's a problem, but there's also an easy solution for that -- such as talking. Like c'mon, talk it over, dudes.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun was such a breath of fresh air from all that mess. It was light, fluffy, and giddy. It was exactly what I was looking for and it took off some stress from studying during this recently concluded exam week (sidenote: fingers crossed, o pls let me pass them all). The whole story was fun; I had a blast. I have no complaints about the characters either. They're all very relatable and lovely, and it was nice seeing them all interact. Plus, there's a chicken, which I found very amusing. Talk about novel ideas for a pet. Ha.

Kodansha this print publication in english sucks. I almost have to break the book apart to be able to read the inner center speech bubbles. It's bound too close to the spine. There was a whole half inch to play with on the outer center edge. Frustrating to read.

Enjoyable but frustrating at times.

The story is progressing in its usual way. It's working out for the author. The character development is fast paced overall but it slows down in this one.

There are a few things that are a little confusing with the art but otherwise it's still really good.

Onto the next!

This is the first manga that I have read through the series of. Overall I loved it! Very entertaining, great character development. The ending brought the series to an end in an enjoyable way.

The Way Haru & shizuku flip between liking one another and not is really rather funny and quite an Intresting dynamic, I really am enjoying how it's all developing and something surely has to throw a spanner into the works soon!

I wish I could come to rational conclusions as quickly as Shizuku.

I also appreciate the fact that once she realises her mistakes she immediately tries to alleviate/clarify them; she's so brave.

3.5 stars, because I really loved the beginning but found some of the school festival parts choppy, particularly the hubbub in the classroom. It's another of those sections where I'm not sure if I'd fully understand what was going on, without the fuller context from the anime.

But again, the manga also adds depth. I really like Yamaguchi. Not in the frustrating second love interest way, I think; Haru is charming enough to keep that temptation at bay, and his carefree personality really does draw things out of Mitty's studious nature that Yamaguchi simply can't compete with. He and Mitty are more alike, which makes them have the potential to be really good friends, but Haru is the kind of guy she'll stay head over heels for.

I'm really hoping that friendship does develop over the volumes, since I don't want Yamaguchi to simply be sidelined as second best. The best part of that kind of chaotic classroom scene was when he stepped in to protect Mitty against Haru's brother, even though he was visibly terrified - and had just finished explaining to Mitty that he's had trauma about that since he was young. He's not the best guy in the world, but he does try when it matters, and I like that about him.

I like all the character dynamics, really. The friendships developing along the way, and Mitty trying to sort out what she wants from Haru, and whether she can pursue her scholastic dreams and fall in love. She doesn't have great examples in her life of being able to properly balance both, so this is a path she'll have to forge for herself. Although she does have help from her friends, if she's willing to let them in.

Haru, too, is coming to terms with his feelings in surprisingly healthy ways. He's found the person who makes him not want to be alone - which doesn't mean he only likes Mitty because he doesn't want to be alone, and anyone will do. That's the tricky part that she may take a while to understand, since Haru isn't the best at communication.

They're both so straightforward, though, that they'll eventually get there. I love that there isn't a lot of miscommunicating and blushing and stuttering and making absolutely no progress. They are talking quite a bit about what they want from each other, and it'll just take them time to navigate their way onto the same page.

chapter 9:
Haru and Mitty are adorable and i love how Haru goes from 😡 to 🥰 in 0.2secs😂
okay idk the age gap between Natsume and Micchan but i ship them, they’re so cute😭 and when he puts his hand on her head?? why have mangas and animes made this such a cute move for me😭
Haru just staring at Mitty is adorable
Haru and Mitty are so back and forth it’s frustrating😭
Natsume is my favorite girl😂🖤
okay but who was that woman? his mom? his aunt? color me confused
“as long as i can be with you, it’s fine” SOMEONE GET ME A HARU NOW

chapter 10:
i’m glad Mitty puts boundaries with Haru. i know that she’s only doing it because she’s trying to run away from her feelings, but regardless, Haru needs to learn to respect her boundaries.
Haru and Mitty really are a power couple🥰 they look so good together asking for the level 1 entrance spot😂 her standing with her arms crossed and Haru sitting next to her glaring😌
Haru always defending Mitti is everything🥰
Yamaken and the others are such a fun group i can’t😂
Micchan is such a good cousin. i love him

chapter 11:
Yamaken constantly getting lost is the cutest shit ever
Haru is so clueless🤦🏻‍♀️ Mitty doesn’t say anything when Yamaken puts his arm around her because she’s not into him and he doesn’t make her nervous DUH
the amount of times Haru accidentally hits Mitty is worrying but hilarious😭 BUT THE FACT THAT HE NEVER APOLOGIZES💀
Mitty talks about Haru caring only about himself when she’s not any better😭 she didn’t think about Natsume when she told her to mind her business
i love that Yuuzan used to protect Haru when they were kids, so cute😭🥰 i hope they rekindled their relationship, be good brothers again.

chapter 12:
Micchan consoling Natsume is so cute😭
the way Yamaken steps in the middle of Mitty and Yuuzan😮‍💨
i love Natsume so much, she’s so cute😭🖤
Haru and Mitty are both so inexperienced it’s adorable😭😂🖤 but i love how openly they talk.

I actually cannot with the other girl.

Like this girlie was like NOW IS MY CHANCE! LIKE WOW. No dignity at all genuinely when our main girl was like actually I don’t like you. But also like damn why the timing gotta be like that man? Anyways, I’mso sorry but I just wished that girl could just shut the hell up, it had to be said. Like honestly, she’s giving homewrecker vibes.

Also I really understand our main girl though. Like how you can try so hard yet still lose to someone who is just naturally smarter but than the rest, look like they take an interest in our main girl. Like honestly, he be kind of good looking though.definitely never studied harder than you. That really hits home.

The most iconic line or maybe the most relatable line being ‘Will i end up falling behind so much that I lose my competitive edge’ and ‘if i don’t study I’ll….’ like girl… you’re definitely one of the realest characters out there man.

There was also like some kind of festival where we are the gang who took advantage of haru make a reappearence and one of them, who is way smarter than the rest, look like they take an interest in our main girl. Like honestly, he be kind of good looking though.

At the time of this review, I read volumes 2 and 3 back-to-back with volume 4 already read. After reading four volumes of this series (1, 4, 2, 3), I have no idea what to think about this series. I will continue to read it, because I want to see where all of this ends up.

With that said, I am currently not a fan of Shizuku. I feel she needs to take a chill pill and get a life. Now I cannot fault her for not wanting to date. When I was in school, I also did not want to date, because I thought it was a distraction. Yet, I felt Shizuku took it too far or at least how she talked about it took too far. I have no idea how Shizuku's and Haru's relationship is going to develop or not. This confusion is further muddled by two other people that may or may not have a thing for Shizuku and Haru, respectively.

Verdict: I am going to continue the series, but I am not sure if I like it.
