Zom-B #8

Zom-B Clans

Rate this book
B's first mission with the Angels --sentient, do-gooder zombies-- went horribly wrong when vicious members of the Ku Klux Klan attacked New Kirkham, a stronghold of precious human survivors. B is not about to let the racist thugs persecute innocent people, but while saving the town, one of B's oldest friends is kidnapped by the Klan.

The Angels are prepared to do what it takes to save him, but B will have to make some very hard decisions about loyalties--to old friends, to the Angels, and to new families and old.

So I just finished Zom-B Clans by Darren Shah.

Rating: 4.2/5 🌟

This is the 8th book in the Zom-B series. So if you guys haven't read the first 7 books then stop reading this coz It might spoil those books for you.

The story starts where the 7th book ended, when New Kirkham was attacked by Ku Klux Klan and was torturing anyone who wasn't british or white. But the angels were there to help the poor human being.
Then Brian gets traped while trying to rescue the human from the Ku Klux Klan.
But when Mayor of New Kirkham asks one of the angels to stay and perform the duty of deputy mayor everything changes.
Plus that Brian gets his hands on one of the members of the board and Owlman was willing to have a swap with him as he wanted that member of the board and Brian wanted the humans that were kidnapped.
We also learn a lot about the Owlman and Mr Dowling .

The story itself is getting really interesting and I am loving it now even more. .

Like I said in my precious reviews, these books are really gruesome. They contain a lot of blood shed and some really creepy illustrations..

I really feel like Darren Shan just decided to up the ante....but adding in the KKK. Not a huge fan of the direction this book is turning.

This was a great read. The story had a great amount of action. Although, I do have to say that 75% of the book was dragged out. B is still my favourite character because of her badass ways. I really wish that someone would make DanDan suffer. I do not like him. I did like Rage for a bit, but then he did something stupid and made me dislike him. The ending was really great. I really need to read book 9 after that ending. I can't wait to see where it takes me. Overall, an intriguing read.

Great edition to the story. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the "clans" being brought into it but in many ways it makes perfect sense . And the ending...one word to change everything. And now I have to wait until October to know what happens next :(

Short Review: Okay, the first 75% of this was a bit boring. I was glad they found that girl and her little kid, he was cute! This white dog stuff, i knew it wasn't gonna end well. The trip to this settlement dragged on. but then once they got there, it got much better. I can't believe the KKK still exist in the zombie world, but i guess they're a gang, but still, do they only kill non white zombies, or all zombies?!

This was the peak of Shan's formulaic plot lines. He starts slow, bringing the story and the theme to the forefront and then ends the books with a cliffhanger. This actually works for the series, however, because each of these books are novellette size, so you never get to the point where you cant go on. In the midst of this Shan gives you a (direct) moral, and he has more going on in this series than in any of the other series he has.
We finally get the back story of the main antagonists and Dr. Oystein, and we begin to understand the machinations that have been going on behind the scenes. We also have our first betrayal (though I have my doubts as to this characters motivations, and if he actually DID betray anyone), and we have a big reveal, which to me wasn't much of a surprise, BUT it will make for an interesting plot line for the next book.

Man Darren Shan can really throw in some twists. I like this book the best out of all of them so far. In this book, you learn more on the background of Owl Man, Mr. Dowling, and Dr. Oystein which allows the series to make more sense. I'm kind of ready for the series to be done though because I just want it to all wrap-up. It's always like the books are heading in the right direction when BAM a twist comes up and the situation gets worse again. Right now Dan-Dan has come back (UGH) and Rage decides to switch sides (well who wasn't expecting that?). B almost gets her chance to end Dan-Dan's life when who pops in the picture... Her freaking dad and that is how it ends... I'm ready to be done with this series already though.

I wanted more with the zombie dog! Lol.

It took me a bit to get into what was happening at the beginning of this. A more direct recap would have been nice. Just B's last 24 hours prior. Crazy start! Ugh the more I learn of DanDan the more I hate him. Yes, he is back in this one. Did you expect less? Ha! More truths are revealed and humans have to start deciding where on the spectrum the Angels stand. A shocker ending. This started with too much action, then tried to put me to sleep before picking up the pace again in the last chapter.

Personal Response:
I liked the book Zom-B Clans because it had a very good start to the story. The book had many exciting moments. It also had many moments where the character could of died.

Plot:
B brings back a hostage for later return of her friend Vinyl. She and her group from New Kirkham escort the hostage back to the HQ. DanDan tries to break deals with the group members for release. From there they bring DanDan to the meet point when it reaches that day. They start the mission to the lot. They reach the entrance with sirens blaring to ward off zombies. They have to put earbuds in to protect from the noise. They continue the escort into the area. The area is clear with no one to be seen. They reach a gate that sweeps open with club members running out, pointing guns towards them. Owl man comes out after the troops are settled. They negotiate on how the trade is going to work. When they are just about to start the swap Rage kills both of the Angels that went along the mission. B is shocked by this. Rage told B to stay back at HQ, but B wouldn't listen. B is betrayed and is about to attack DanDan. Then one of the members walk towards her saying to stop. He pulls his hat off and it's B's dad.

Recommendation:
I recommend this book to someone who likes a mystery. The reader would have to like having plot twists. I recommend the reader to have an open mind on what could happen.

This latest book in the Zom-B series manages to be both self-contained and a part of the overall story at the same time. It continues where the last book left off and sees B capture child-killer Dan-Dan as her prisoner, but forced to keep him alive to negotiate the return of her friend Vinyl.

This is not the most action-packed volume of the series so far but I didn't feel that was unnecessary at all. There's a strong, violent start to tie off the cliffhanger but then the book is full of tension. It's all about dealing with moral issues, in fact I have rarely seen so many packed into a young adult book. There's extreme racism, the moral question of what to do with Dan-Dan, whether bystanders who did not fight the Klu Klux Klan should be executed and plenty more besides. Regularly I felt like I was having to make moral decision if I was in the extremely unlikely situation.

There's also some major plot development as Dr. Oystein reveals his connection with Owl Man and through this bit the whole scenario suddenly feels more real. The characters, particularly Mr. Dowling and Owl Man, have seemed almost cartoonish up to this point but here Shan has grounded them, making them not too far from people who actually exist. Yet in many ways they remain cartoonish, Shan creating strong horror from characters who are simply impossible.

The same can be said of Dan-Dan, the child-killer from Zom-B Gladiator. He's a horror character in a cartoonish way but here he is made more real, a lord who has travelled the world and taken advantage of people to get hold of children. With the news full of people in powerful positions taking advantage of children at the moment, Dan-Dan is a really disturbing character.

All in all, another great addition to the series. It's great that it works well as a standalone book yet moves the plot of the series on at the same time. Oh, and there's a really rather excellent cliff-hanger at the end. I'm really enjoying the zombie world Darren Shan has created and look forward to seeing where he takes it next.

"We do what we think is right. After that, we can only pray that we choose the correct path, and hope our maker will forgive us if we err."

WOW. Finally. finally some huge huge answers are delivered. We finally get some clarity on moments that seemed so confusing.
We also get some kick butt zombie moments, some interesting fighting....

and one more huge secret revealed. I must admit I didn't see it coming. I can't wait for the next one!

I didn't expect it after reading book 1 (I couldn't stand B and almost didn't try book 2), but this series gets better with every book. I can't wait to see what happens next and I zipped right through the series to date and now have to wait for the next one! The surprise ending didn't surprise me though. I have been convinced since finishing book 1, that we'd be seeing that person again. I've just been biding my time, wondering how long Shan would make us wait.

B Has a habit of thinking she knows best and acting on it.
She is not always right....

In this volume of the Zom-B series we finally get a lot of background on Owl Man and Mr. Dowling and why the Angels are working to bring them down as well as their relationship to certain events and other characters. The series is building up to what will probably be an explosive conclusion soon...

The author of the book is Darren Shan and the title of the book is ZOM-B. The book is also fiction. The genres of the book are adventure, tale, and fantasy. I chose to read the book because it was recommended to me by my brother who already read it.

The book is mostly about violence and deaths and killing and blood and so on. The book is a horror book which is about a kind of zombies which eat the organs of the people they kill without even thinking about it. The story's setting is mainly in a city and events were happening in places like the school, dreams, etc. The central characters are Bill and his friends from school. The characters didn’t evolve a lot and what was usually happening was people killing each other with other violent events happening.

A girl was running away from a bunch of zombies and she had to throw her friend to the zombies to save herself even though her friend killed her after he became a zombie. The story made me feel scared and it was also believable but not exciting. There were scary bits where the characters seemed real. The book made me think about all the dead people and I also thought that I’d better not read it. I didn’t learn anything from the book because it was violent. My favorite part of the book was when there was no blood included. My opinion about the book is that is is a bit too violent especially for kids younger than 10. I wouldn’t recommend this book to a friend but I give it a rating of 6/10 and the reading age I’d give this book is 10-15 years old.

so the book went more in depth to the whole racist part of it. and to tell the truth i liked that. with the first book of this series, i thought it was amazing and then in book 2 it dropped all of that and it became a different kind of story. now in the series they have came back to that aspect of the story and shown that in an apocalyptic world human beings can still be assholes. i also love that becky has finally come over her fear of being like her dad and is protecting the right people being the good side of humanity

Ideally I think this series should be binge read rather than super spread out like I've had to do, since I don't own all of the books and neither does my local library...
Also, unlike the Darren Shan saga, there isn't omnibus editions and the collections of 2 books in 1 aren't available for the later books in the series yet.
Clans, like the other books was highly readable and enjoyable. I found the plot twists pretty predictable, but I still REALLY wanted to knows what happens next. I also adore B's development, especially given my dislike at the beginning of the franchise.

Action. Zombies. KKK. Interesting mix. I knew the handover of Dan-Dan wasn't going to be as easy as they said it was going to be. But I wasn't expecting that cliffhanger at the end. I'm still not entirely sure why racism had to be so prominent throughout the series especially with the introduction of the KKK. Best maybe that is the reason why Shan included them. To make people uncomfortable and make you feel how B feels when she finds out her father has joined them. On to Zom-B family and to see where the story goes.

Quick Pointers:
*When I give a rating I try to keep them as regarding the genre of the book. For example if I review a horror novel it would be in regards to other horror themed works I’ve read, NOT every single book I laid my mitts on. I mean, imagine comparing “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” with “The Picture of Dorian Gray”…. HOW??!!! Either way, have fun and be good to one another.
*All out of 10

Plot: 9/10

Flow: 8/10

The Grand Finale: 8/10 GOD DAMN IT RAGE!!! I swear, I always back the worst characters….

Love Interests/Angles: -

Main Character: 9/10 Oh no…. B, it is time to prove how much you changed since the apocalypse. Literally she comes face to face with potentially the most destructive influence in her life.

Supporting Characters: 9/10 I adored Jakob in this one! There was something so unbelievably satisfying in having the Reviatizids save the New Kirkham inhabitants and prove how judgemental they themselves were. Loved every second of it and Jakob asking for a badge warmed my heart!

Villain(s): 9/10 There’s too many to choose from and I lovingly hate them all. There’s Owl Man and his dog, Sakarias. There’s Dan-Dan, the slug of a man. Guess Rage’s back on the list as well… Don’t know why I expected different since he made it abundantly clear he wasn’t to be trusted. This one’s on me…

Audiobook (if listened to): -

Recommend?: Yes!

this one was action packed which i enjoyed. learning about dr oystein’s connections with owl man and mr dowling were interesting, especially the tidbit where dr oystein has a virus that would wipe out the zombies but hasn’t released it because owl man stole a virus from oystein that would kill all humans, which mr dowling now possesses. omg and rage’s betrayal at the end… i was starting to warm up to his character (surprisingly). anyway no surprise that b’s dad is alive. interested to see how this story continues in the next book

This book was a fast-paced read, really liked it although now I start noticing how childish some scenes are. For example: in a battle they take like 5 minutes time to have a conversation while they should be killing people. Other than that: amazing book! Some more background story is being revealed, epic battle descriptions and a great cliff hanger! Will have to buy the next book soon because I am still hungry for more

This was my favourite book in the series so far, I'm glad this one came along after several average installments. There was plenty of action, lots of emotion and none of the characters were annoying. It only loses a star for the major plot twists being pretty obvious early on . We also got a lot of welcome backstory on Mr. Dowling, Owl Man and Dr. Oystein, it was nice finally getting information about their past and motives.
