After reading the cat version of this book, I wanted to wait a little before starting this one, because I didn't want to muddle the stories in my head. Waiting made all the difference, I enjoyed this far more than if I'd immediately followed up from the cats. Now I identify as a cat person. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy unique relationships with all three of my dogs, it's just different from the all consuming love I have for my cats. Even now, my two Kelpies are having a farm visit for a few days with the Maltese naps contentedly on the lounge, and my cats sit on either side of me.
For all that, I've known and loved many dogs over my 27 year life, from my biggest heart breaker, Muffin, to huge and gentle Nelson, and the fondly nicknamed 'Ratbag' or NJ, the Boston terrier stolen from my parents' yard as he neared the end of his life. There was Rusty, a kind of ideal dog that I vaguely remember from my very early childhood. There were a few puppies that only stayed in our care for a few months, as my mum used to foster dogs until one killed her beloved cat. All of them had little bits of the personalities here, but as any pet owner will tell you, no two are the same. The stories often brought tears to my eyes. The owners love for their dogs is very apparent.
A lovely collection of stories to be enjoyed by any dog lover. Five stars.
I'm not a huge fan of the chicken soup series. In most of the books there's the odd story that's alright, but I've never been into them all that much.
So this book came as a pleasant surprise when I actually rather enjoyed it. There were a lot of cute stories in here, and some funny (and sad) ones as well. Good for if you want something to read, but don't have time to commit to long chapters, as each story is usually about 2 pages long.
As someone who's been involved in dog rescue for over 8 years, I found some of the stories difficult to read. Stories of irresponsible (letting a 10yr old dog get pregnant, dogs living outside all their lives) and clueless owners are some of the reasons that our shelters are so full of great dogs. Some of the stories are heartwarming and endearing, but overall I didn't care for this book.
These were such touching stories about doge and what they can do for their human owners. There are stories about dogs helping people to heal and being great companions. This helped me remember some of the dogs I've had in the past.
This book took me two days, this one was a short book. It only had 75 pages, and it put a smile on my face. Life lessons from the dog, and I like reading chicken 🐔 soup for the soul.😍❤️
I have read many chicken soup for the soul books, but this one has to be the highest quality I have seen. Mind you I am beginning to think that because they receive so many entries for the pet books they have a higher chance of getting the "Holy moly, this is amazing" stories. I can not attest to this though because I have not read any other pet books. But I think I will be buying their new cat book that came out at the same time as this. I also skimmed through the biographies and most of the contributors are literally published authors or write freelance. I love dogs and this book had me crying and laughing at a few points but mostly crying. I remember of the stories very well, actually most of them are written so well that really I could have used a box of tissues while reading. Usually I find Chicken Soup to be great reading while I am waiting between novels but this is one I actually wanted to read cover to cover in one sitting. It was that good.
I had not read a Chicken Soup for the Soul book in a long time. I saw this one while I was killing time at Fred Meyer Before work and decided to order it on my Kindle. The stories were fun I loved reading them. It does make you realize that if you are a dog owner how much more interesting they make your life. It was a light fun and quick read and I enjoyed it
This book is full of wonderful stories that can elicit emotions. The only problem I saw is that much of the book needed better editing. Some stories, especially a few toward the end, in a section entitled, "Bad Dog," were so well written they didn't need editing.
I loved how there was such a large variety of stories collected here - there were stories that made me cry, stories that surprised me in delightful ways, and stories that made me laugh out loud, just to name a few. I would definitely recommend this book to dog lovers, although other people would enjoy this book as well.
Laughed! Smiled! But was a little disappointed with some of the stories... In my opinion there are plenty more interesting stories out there that can tops this! But i just love dogs.. So any stories put a great big smile on my face
Who doesn't love the crazy antics of dogs? I love all these stories of dogs doing the oddest things. Perfect gift for the dog lover in your life. As with all the Chicken Soup books, this book will make you laugh and cry, but will leave you inspired to go and pet your furry family.
This is a non-fiction collection of short stories about dogs, each about 3 or 4 pages in length, and written by their owners. Some stories I enjoyed more than others, and some of them were sad. I did read all of the stories so overall I would say this book was worth reading.
This book had some good stories and some not so good stories. Some brought a tear to my eye, some made me laugh and brough back a fond memory of all the dogs I've loved before and some were just completely boring. This book was lent to me so I will be returning it to it's rightful owner.
I enjoyed reading about how dogs improved people's lives. Being a dog lover myself it was a good book with some sad, funny, happy and interesting stories.
