Eugene Weaver (https://eugeneweaverpublishing.com) is the author of three novels. Thunder Stone Realm was published in 2023 and is the first book in his Thunder Stone Realm Trilogy. It is the 61st book I completed reading in 2024.

I downloaded an ARC of this book through a promotion by BookSirens with the expectation of a fair and honest review. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own! Due to scenes of violence and some mature language, I categorize this novel as R.

The starship Caldwell is on a 10-year mission of exploration. After only three years, the crew of four are awakened from hibernation. A black hole is affecting their flight path. Unable to avoid it, the ship is swept into a wormhole. Their ship is damaged, but the crew manages to guide it to a planet with a survivable atmosphere.

The four survive the landing but lose the ship to native creatures of the planet. Fortunately, they detach their escape pod before the ship is lost. The atmosphere may be breathable, but most of the plants and wildlife are dangerous to the extreme.

An evil entity had come to the planet long ago. The native civilization was destroyed, and most of the animal life is now under its control. A brilliant shining stone is the beast’s prize possession. Through the stone, the beast is empowered. It believes that the new arrivals to the planet are there to steal the stone. His animal minions are sent to kill the crew of the Caldwell.

All except for the lone female, Carol. The beast wants to drain her life force into the stone to increase his power. Despite their best efforts, Carol is taken prisoner. The remaining three continue to fight, but another is lost. They meet with another crash survivor who has struggled on the hellish planet for two years.

How will their five-day stay on the planet end? What will become of Carol? Can the stranded spacemen survive the onslaught of the beast? Can they somehow destroy it? Will they ever be able to return home?

I enjoyed the 7+ hours I spent reading this 358-page science fiction novel. This novel reminds me of science fiction from the 50s and 60s. A fun read with lots of action and excitement without much consideration for science. I like the chosen cover art. I give this novel a rating of 3 out of 5.

"Up from the unseen depths it flew: mighty Hyzothan. The Corruptor, the Beast, the demon. Flying with huge wings towards them all, sending a jolt of pure icy terror through Ramsey at its sheer size."

I first came across this book and the other books of Mr. Weaver in a local bookstore called the "Little Sparrow", and was immediately pulled in by the gorgeous cover art! His books reminded me by the cover and reading the descriptions of when I was a kid growing up in the 80s and watching old science fiction movies with my dad. Although I didn't buy any at first, every time I came in the store I would look at them. The other day I finally bought this book, and I am so glad I did.

After reading about seventy five percent of this book, I knew that I liked this author, and the story already had me hooked. So I went back and bought the other five books that were there, all with gorgeous covers and all sounding like they would be fun reads. Two of them are the sequels to this book, which I'm very excited to start. But over all I rated this book five stars. I really enjoyed the vibe and classic feel of the story and look forward in continuing the journey.

Great job Mr. Weaver, i look forward to finishing your other books as well.
