Son once capítulos breves, sencillos, pero provocativos. In brief, Ellen Gould Harmon White was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.

Since The Great Controversy is a book that literally changed my life for good, this abridgment worried me. How could a mere 92 pages do justice to the monumental, 690 page work on the scope of Jesus' church from His time to the end of history? In short, the result turned out to be beautiful. The history of Christianity in this world has been cut, but the story is told of the origin of evil, it's significance and inherent delusions. Chief among these are the diabolical idea of an eternal hell for the law breakers and, ironically, the opposite falsity that there is no law for believers. Overall, this is a heartwarming introduction to the sweeping vision God has in mind for humanity.

This book is an adaptation to "The Great Controversy" (TGC) I've attempted to read TGC many times, it's not that I can't get into it. It's a lot to swallow. So I picked this up to warm myself up to it. It allowed me see the bigger picture and get a clearer understanding. Now I'm at ease to pick up TGC. TGC is a book that I want to read and fully acknowledge, and "The Great Hope" gives it great leverage for that goal.

A very fast read,
I feel the author is very good at explaining basic principles in explaining Christianity, but I do not agree about her thoughts on Sabbath day being on Saturday and misuse of Hebrews 3:19 on page 62, that among many in Chapter 8 specifically. I do agree that God did mean for us to have a day of rest though, and oddly enough I am a member of a Seventh Day Adventist church.
Forgiveness is another key area where I feel she ( Ellen White ) did not cover with a wide brush.

God will judge everyone's heart, not whether we went to church on Saturday or Sunday.

If you already know the winner, would you still be asking yourself which side to pick? . . .

. . . I don't know about you but I already picked.

Blessing and honor and glory and power be to him who sits on the throne, and to the lamb, forever and ever!

Amen

This is a great little book and a quick read about the battle between good and evil and who wins. I recommend it as a good read.

This is an inspiring book by a great author who wrote disputing the last half of the nineteenth century. The editors have shortened it from the original version without removing the power. It is about the life of Jesus and the amazing gift of God to mankind.

A lei prevalece a graça.

This book is a knock off by Ted wilson and all of those associated with the General conference. To read Ellen Whites REAL book
The Great Controversy, look for her 1884 version, it is the one that hasn't been adulterated, if you want the real whole story then please look up The Great Controversy between Christ and satan 1884
Not 1888 or 1907 or 1911.
Learned men in lofty positions have changed her writings, always look for the pioneers oldest writings.

Biggest piece of trash I'ver read in a long time.
If you like cheap sanctimoniousness , you'll probably like this book. I only read it because I'm a fast reader and I found this book in the corner of my bookshelf por some fucking reason.

Was given to me very randomly and I’m kinda open minded but I didn’t like it. I do read my bible daily and this didn’t feel right. My Spirit really questioned it right from the beginning and stopped me from continuing it.

A beautiful book with a too simple message, there is no continuity, and lacks more content overall.

I would rather read it in the Bible. This is a small book adapted from The Great Controversy. The chapters promise answers, but do they deliver?
