Raus! Untoten! #1

Raus! Untoten!

Rate this book
Raus! Untoten! is a truly unique collection of stories. The Nazi Zombie trope, genre even, has become firmly entrenched in the public's mind. Films and books have saturated the market to the extent that Nazis are synonymous with Zombies. Vampires have also come to the fore in recent years and have, to the stunned horror of horror fans, become sexy in a faintly necrophiliac manner. But Zombies and Vampires are just two of a myriad of undead horrors waiting to come lunging out of the shadows to slash out throats, suck our eyes from their sockets and scoop our warm brains into their gaping, fang-lined maws. Raus! Untoten! addresses this imbalance. Naturally we have zombies, but we also have vampires, French grey puppets, Jewish golems and even vengeful spirits. So, make yourself comfortable, pour yourself a glass of your favourite tipple and let yourself be taken away to worlds of horror.

Holy Nazi zombies Batman!
I loved this anthology so much! It. Was. Amazing. Every single of these stories deserves its own novel, or even a series. They would all be amazing.

McNeill's "Links oder Recht" was brilliant, I really struggled to figure out if it was genuinely supernatural (not in a confusing way, but in a "open to suggestion" way).

Sylvester's "Bluttrinker" (I only just googled that word) was a delight as well (not that I wasn't expecting that), with a new (or is that old) twist on the Soviet/Germany conflict.

Hobkinson's "ZA-43" made me really believe that all this could be possible, with the technical jargon incredibly detailed and a British viewpoint on the whole affair.

Roberts' "Kavod Ha-Met" was a nice twist on the old Nazi-hunting story, again another story where it was open to suggestion whether it was actually supernatural or not. Read it and you'll see what I mean.

Baker's "Lebenden Toten: Enemy at the Gate" is a nice version of an old classic: men fighting zombies, this time Germans fighting in Stalingrad, with a great ending!

And Moore's "Crowley's War" was absolutely, showing Britain's magic war against the hidden Thule Society (kind of like the Assassins and Templars). Plus, Churchill!

All in all, I really want all of these to be expanded into their universes! Pretty please Matt?
