Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").
Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.
A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.
A compact book on some of the writings of A.W.Tozer in relation to topics such as faith, the church and the Holy Spirit. I enjoyed the book but it took me a little bit to get use to the fact that it was a collection of his writings combined on a topic in each chapter. Some chapters didn't flow as well on the theme as other ones.
This little book is just the right size to encourage me to focus on one thought while I’m on hold on the phone, waiting in line at the post office, or as an addendum to my daily quiet time. A.W. Tozer’s writings are time-tested and ring true to scripture. I am happy to have this slender volume to help me be more thoughtful about my daily walk with Jesus.
Tozer excels at removing things which diminish the majesty of God in our culture and lives. What we think about God are the most important thoughts we will think. In many ways Tozer is telling us that our God is too small.
Tozer packs power in his sentences. This little collection is perfect for bedside reminders upon waking or before closing ones eyes. He constantly reminds us that God deserves for no other reason than He is God who was the first in everything. we can claim nothing of our own and for that we give thanks.
For what this book is - an excerpt of many writings - it’s a wonderful collection. However, because it is a collection of many and not one fluid writing, it can be hard to follow at times. For that reason, I give it a 3 only. It has made me eager to read more of Tozer, though, and I think the editor would count that a win.
Basically a selection of absolute bangers from Tozer's various writings, lined up for your perusal. Lots of thought-provokers; many questions that flow from the Bible's teaching that aren't asked nearly often enough.
Tozer hits home no matter what he's written, and this little book is a great way to get to know his work. I've read several of Tozer's books, and will always be happy to read another, and this collection is well done.
