Was it attempted murder or a boating accident? Either way, the hard-driving Jordan Campbell is in a coma. When Frank Decorah asks nurse Hannah Andrews to use her psychic talent to connect with Jordan, she knows it's a dangerous job. Once she's on the case, whoever tried to kill Jordan will likely turn on her. But as she digs into the man's background, she can't refuse Frank's assignment. Now she's risking her life---and her heart.
Ruth Glick (born 1942) is a best-selling author of healthy cookbooks and has also written dozens of romantic suspense romance novels under the pen name Rebecca York.
Ruth earned a B.A. in American Thought and Civilization from George Washington University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland. Although she always wanted to become a writer, Glick was convinced that her lack of spelling skills meant that her goal was unattainable. As a stay-at-home mother, she took a community college course to help her choose a career. The course made it very clear that writing was her primary interest. Glick began writing articles for newspapers and magazines, but after several years decided to try writing fiction. Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..
Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. Many of her novels are published under the Harlequin Intrigue line, and in June 2003, she became one of the first authors published under Berkley's new Sensation imprint. Before 1997, she often collaborated with Eileen Buckholtz and Kathryn Jenson.
Glick also is a highly regarded author of cookbooks focusing on healthy eating. She sometimes hires trained chefs to test the recipes that she creates, and makes sure that every recipe is tested at least three times before it appears in one of her cookbooks.
Glick is the head of the Columbia Writers Workshop. She and her husband, Norman Glick, live in Columbia, Maryland, where Ruth collects rocks, and enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, travel, and Mozart operas. They have two grown children, Elissa and Ethan, and two grandsons (Jesse and Leo).
I got this book as part of the "Dangerous Attractions" 10 book boxed set. This is a novella that accompanies the Decorah Security series.
The gist: Hannah is a nurse who has a psychic ability where she can "talk" to people (telepathically, sort of) while they are unconscious. Jordan is in a coma after someone tried to kill him. Hannah is hired to be one of his around the clock in-home nurses. She communicates with him psychically to help him come out of his coma and to figure out what happened to him in the first place. They fall in love and live happily ever after.
I enjoyed this story. It was BEYOND cheesy, but that's okay because it's a novella and a romance so it's suppose to be a bit cheesy... It was also suspenseful since you didn't know WHO was trying to kill him. So the story was a bit of Alfred Hitchcock meets Scooby Doo. Or like that game Clue. It was Mr. Peabody in the library with a candlestick! You didn't know who was trustworthy and who was evil until it all came out, so that was the Alfred Hitchcock, black and white movie aspect. Then the truth was revealed in a Scooby Doo sort of manner. If you've ever watch an episode of Scooby Doo, you will know EXACTLY what I mean here...
Listen, it's a novella. It was SUPER short! And since the plot was sort of complex and there were several players to choose from as the attempted murderer, it had to be pretty fast-paced in order to fit it all in. It held my interest and I was entertained. As far as editing goes, there were quotation marks where there shouldn't have been any on a few occasions but that was all that I really noticed. Nothing to detract from the story for me...
Hannah, whilst not strictly a member of the Decorah team, has been appropriated for a mission. She has a talent where she can speak to people whilst they are unconscious. She has been drafted in to care for a wealthy businessman who was attacked within his estate and left for dead.
Jordan has been in a coma for weeks. But he somehow connects to a beautiful nurse who is trying to investigate who tried to kill him.
There was a bit of mystery to this story, trying to figure out who tried to kill Jordan. But other than that it was a bit cheesy. Rich guy, struggling nurse. This is a short read and maybe if it had been fleshed out a bit I would have enjoyed it more.
The sixteenth story in the Decorah Security 2.0.another engrossing story in this series. Jordan, a victim of an attempted murder, falls into a coma. Hannah is hired as one of his in-home nurses, and she uses her abilities to communicate with him while he is unconscious, to both aid in his recovery from the coma and unravel the mystery of what happened to him. This story offers a well-developed plot, engaging characters, and a satisfying, happy ending. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jordan was found by his sister if she hadn't, found him he would have died. It's been 3 weeks and he hasn't come to. Jordan's grandmother had heard of Hannah's ability to reach people who were not conscious. What a great story. I found I had read it almost before I had begun.
When she's contacted to be his nurse and to try to connect with him through telepathy to get him out of his coma, she agrees. She's confident of her skills and learning more about why he is not waking up. They get to know each other mentally and start investigating. Seeing each other on another plane adds depth to the relationship. I think there's not much you can hide on this level.
I'm not sure about this erotic mystery. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 3.5* rating. This is not for the under 18 readers. This was just a strange story with meeting in a dream type of thing. Definitely not my type of reading.
Jordan is racing against the clock to prove who is trying to kill him. Only problem is, he's in a coma. So how is he able to communicate with his nurse, Hannah?
I loved every bit of this eerily romantic novella. It's a quick read, and a quick romance, but very intense and deeply emotional. The whodunit keeps you guessing right up to the end, while the love story holds center stage with scenes that are unlike anything else I've ever read.
This author continues to amaze me with her creativity and expansive array of paranormal story elements. I highly recommend this beautiful story for anyone who likes a little something extra with their romances.
Hannah was a very special nurse, she had a very special gift that only a couple fo people knew about it. When she is hired to help a very wealthy young man recover from an "accident" he suffers. Hannah knew this was a special case since she found herself feeling an attraction by Jordan when she saw his pictures. Hannah was putting her best in this case, since her feelings were also on the line.
Jordan knew someone close to him was trying to harmed him since they had killed his personal assistant. The only thing he had to do was to lay a trap for the traider. When Jordan had this weird dreams and he started talking to Hannah he knew he had to pulled out of this medicated coma someone had him. Jordan had never felt all this emotions he was experiencing in his dreams with Hannah and he knew he wanted to be with her once he was well.
Can Jordan and Hannah's unconventional relationship be strong enough for them to pull out of this horrible nightmare or will it be too late for them?
I was fascinated by this paranormal holiday romance. Love how Jordan and Hannah's love pulled them together and they found their HEA!!

When I first bought my Kindle three or four years ago, I eagerly downloaded a "bargain" - a book titled Dangerous Attraction, Romantic Suspense Boxed Set. I just never got around to reading it until now. It contains 9 full-sized novels as advertised. Not all were romantic suspense, however. Several were erotic novels rather than romantic ones; some contained little or no suspense. This was the last novel in that download. Christmas Captive was actually a short story or a novella. I am not a fan of the paranormal, so I found the plot for this one not only unbelievable but also a little irritating. The reason for the two-star rating (instead of a one-star rating) is that the writer did exhibit some writing skill. The plot was fairly well structured and coherent; the characters were realistically drawn although their actions were ridiculous in my opinion. The author also cared enough about her product that the novella was adequately edited for grammatical/structural accuracy.
Short and sweet. Or rather, short and steamy. This was the last story in a Kindle bundle, and probably the best of the bunch. Our heroine is a psychic nurse recruited by a PI to help our hero, in a coma following a suspicious accident, recover his health and his memory of who attacked him.
It's a novella, so it moves quickly--although not quickly enough to preclude several sex scenes. Which, I have to admit, I tend to skim. A consequence of not reading a lot of romance these days.
The mystery was solved quickly (see above, re: novella), but the solution made sense and was satisfying enough.
This was a nice short story which I really enjoyed. The story is about a nurse who has been hired to help Jordan who is in a coma. With the possibility that someone in his family is trying to kill him Hannah has a challenge in front of her. I think that is what made the book interesting amd should have been extended out alot more in the story. It was a good story though doesnt really have a christmas theme, just a bit of reference to it. xx
Hannah and Jordan story was set up by somebody else. This is left hanging and the end of the story. She has special skills that will help him to save his life. He doesn't know her, but they have a relationship in their mind. I know of people who have those, only they are one way only. It has suspense and was OK.
This is the 1st book I read by Rebecca York. This book's story line was okay. I liked the way this book started. I liked the steamy scenes with Jordan & his nurse. I just wish this book was a romance suspense instead of a romance paranormal.
Although this story takes place in December, it could just as easily be set in any month. The action has several unexpected turns, but the real value is the character development. It is a heartwarming story.
I enjoyed this more than I thought. very short but all the character development was there. I was wrong trying to guess who did it. I want more of this book. ha!
This was a very good book. I enjoyed it. It was naughtier than I normally read but it was a very good book. It is part of the Ten Christmas Brides series.
