"Mentoring is a lifelong relationship, in which a mentor helps a protégé reach his or her God-given potential." (Bobb Biehl, Mentoring, Page 19)

This book has tools and advice for becoming a mentor to others and also for finding a mentor. It is targeted to the Christian person who has a desire or goal to impact others and impact the world.

There is a good list throughout this book of "do's" and "don'ts" in a mentoring relationship. For example: Bobb Biehl advises that a mentor should never lend a protégé money in most circumstances.

Oil of joy for the mentor and protégé!

Fantastic book! Biehl effectively communicates what it takes to be a mentor and a protege.

He discusses the fears and hesitations people have about entering this type of relationship. After describing the differences between discipleship and mentoring, he paints the picture of what it is to be in each role.

A current theme in the book is how our mobile society takes the natural mentors our of our lives (grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.) since most live in other areas. Biehl provides further resources in the book to help people start venturing into the mentor / protege roles.

This is a book that has sat unread on my shelves for a long time and I am truly sorry about that. I should have read it long ago. It has affirmed my belief in one on one mentoring as one of the key training routes for Christian leaders. The support provided by mentors is critical to upholding individuals in their personal, professional, spiritual and social lives. Thanks for this book Bobb Biehl
