Sanctity Of Life: The Inescapable Issue

Rate this book
Here's straight talk you wouldn't have heard from the pulpit 50 years ago. Even five years ago. In fact, it is the first time this well known pastor speaks out on the inescapable issue of our abortion. While Sanctity of Life decries society's penchant for abortion on demand, the book is more than just another call for legislative action. Instead, Chuck Swindoll wants his words to help Christians "get their arms around" the nation's most divisive issue, reach out to women and their families who are enduring the aftermath of a bad decision, and then move beyond the tension of the issue to join in a plea for lifetime morality. Chuck Swindoll believes that the 1990s is not the time for Christians to slacken their efforts either in opposing abortion or in advocating moral purity. Now is the moment for renewed vigor in social action and, above all, godly living. Sanctity of Life is a book on resolve, courage, and compassion. It is not the last word on abortion, but it is the definitive position on moral living for Christians today.

I love this book so much because while it does discuss the facts of abortion and exposes the lies sold about it in the mainstream media, it goes so much further. Swindoll spends a chapter talking about the healing & forgiveness God offers to those who have had or encouraged or facilitated abortions, and then he writes a passionate "plea for morality," addressing the root cause of abortions: sexual immorality and the unwillingness to be self-controlled or take responsibility for our actions. We should all read that chapter, even if we'd never dream of having or encouraging an abortion. None of us should think, "That would never happen to me." He ends with a rousing call to use well the days and not grow weary in doing good—while clearly condemning those who use hate & violence against abortion advocates. It's a short book but covers all the important points, and it's far more holistic and compassionate than I expected. Highly recommended to all.

Incredible read. Extremely educational and convicting. As well as sad and confronting, but we must face the facts of this heart breaking issue.

“We know from scripture that the Lord is infinitely tender and compassionate toward the little children with whom He has blessed us. What must He be feeling now? As we spill their blood for our inconvenience and economy? How can we Christians continue to sit in our services and ignore this unprecedented crime against humanity?”

This is a nice book, although the book is not entirely about abortion, as the title would suggest. Rather the first section is about abortion, the second part is about sexual morality, and the last part is a general call to action for Christians, with resolutions for the coming decade of the 1990s. Enjoyable and well written.

This is an excellent book written on one of the most important topics in the world. The sanctity of EVERY life. I believe that life begins at conception and that every unborn baby deserves life and deserves to be fought for! This is a topic that needs more voice.
Proverbs 31:8
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute."

This book convicted and encouraged me to look for ways to join more fully in the fight against abortion and the fight for life. This book also spoke of the redemption and healing for all who have had an abortion. Healing that comes from forgiveness and the love of God. Jesus makes every wrong right and can heal every broken spot. For everyone who has experienced an abortion and is broken by its effects, Jesus invites you into His open arms of forgiveness, love, and grace. The Bible says,
1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

As we all have "sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23). God has made a way for every person to be saved by His shed blood and death on the cross, where He bore all our sins and judgment, both past, present, and future. All you have to do is believe and put your faith in His finished work.
Romans 10:9-13
"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

So call on His name. Come to Jesus and receive a new life! Come join the fight for life. For every life deserves to live.

Psalm 139:13-14
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well."

This book is still relevant today as Swindoll takes on the abortion issue head on with scripture and godly sense. He also addresses immorality and warns us of Satan's attempt to devour God's leaders in the area of sexual sin (happens quite a bit unfortunately). His final call is for resolve, courage but also compassion as we seek to address these issues then and still today.
