Avalon High seems like a typical high school, attended by typical students: There's Lance, the jock. Jennifer, the cheerleader. And Will, senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy. But not everybody at Avalon High is who they appear to be ... not even, as new student Ellie is about to discover, herself. What part does she play in the drama that is unfolding? What if the bizarre chain of events and coincidences she has pieced together means -- as with the court of King Arthur -- tragedy is fast approaching Avalon High? Worst of all, what if there's nothing she can do about it?

Librarian note: AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels).

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.

She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.

Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.

Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.

* Airhead
* The Princess Diaries

Meg Cabot and Jinky Coronado are back in a second installment of the AVALON HIGH CORONATION series. HOMECOMING is Volume 2 of the continuation.

Will's brother, Marco, has been released from the psychiatric hospital. Marco corners Ellie at the local park to convince her that the idea of Will being the incarnation of King Arthur is totally foolish. Marco starts to convince Ellie that even he no longer believes that he's involved in the foretold prophecy. But the two are interrupted by the arrival of Morgan, Marco's girlfriend.

Morgan has it out for Ellie and does everything she can to get her to withdraw from the Homecoming Queen race. Ellie is hardly concerned because she's convinced that her friend, Jennifer, is meant to win the title anyway. So putting thoughts of Homecoming out of her mind, Ellie is determined to get her boyfriend, Will, reconnected with his estranged family.

Will's family doesn't have any time for the silly notion of the reincarnation of King Arthur, and unless Will chooses the path his father wishes him to pursue, his father has little to say to him.

The dinner goes horribly wrong, and Ellie is troubled by nightmares. Her World Civ teacher reminds her that everything that has occurred has already been foretold. If she doesn't convince Will that he's the reincarnation by the Hunter's Moon the following night, chaos will ensue. Nothing like having the weight of the world on your shoulders on top of all the other struggles of high school

This follow-up to THE MERLIN PROPHECY is just as stunningly crafted as that first book. The artwork tells the story that Meg Cabot has created in beautiful detail. The story is easy to follow and the ending leaves the reader dangling, waiting for the next part of the story in Volume 3, HUNTER'S MOON.

The manga sequels to Avalon High have been a bit of a let down when compared to the first novel. The series continues in the vein of Ellie continuing to have nightmares about Marco (who has returned, supposedly redeemed), being bullied by the modern-day high-school version of Morgana, trying to rather unsuccessfully unite Will's estranged family, scoffing the good professor's insistence that Will needs to accept his mystical legacy and randomly quivering in the halls of Avalon High like a no-backboned sappy heroine.

This was NOT the Ellie of Book 1.

The Manga series is making me hate all the characters. Ellie is getting gullible and annoying. Will is just coming off as a jerk. I'm still going to read the third to see how it ends but I might just pretend this extension of the series doesn't exist. Avalon High is a stand alone novel

Because of the cliffhanger ending from the first book in the series I grabbed this one up quickly and read through it.
One thing that I didn't find so great was that it repeated the first part of the first book but in a way it would've been good for people who hadn't read the first one for quite a while. Plus it's useful if you haven't read the novel Avalon High by Meg Cabot. Which I haven't but I definitely will be if the book is anything like this series.
Anyway, the characters are all interesting. I'm curious to know what they're up to and especially who some of them are, as it seems there are new bad guys afoot.
The story line is really good, it's the perfect fantasy, based on historical myths. The whole King Arthur thing is really cool.
The ending was another cliffhanger. So I can't wait for the third book to come out. It's supposed to come out on the first of September so I'm not sure when it will be seen here.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this book and I'd recommend this to fantasy fans, or anyone into King Arthur and Merlin etc.

Okay, I will admit that this installment was an improvement off of the first part. Though we still had to read through the introduction, about Arthur and the many lives he lived where he was brought down by evil before he could fulfill his destiny and whatnot, the main plot actually started to pick up a bit. Nonetheless, I still would have been happier to just have a regular book sequel to Avalon High.

After finishing Vol 1 I had wished it was longer then starting Vol 2 I really wished the first one was longer b/c Vol 2 is a bit longer than Vol 1 & I also feel like a lot more could have happened in Vol 1 especially since Chapter 1 was mostly a recap. Ellie believing that Marco had changed just b/c he said he had was ridiculous b/c she was also questioning whether he had changed just b/c of his word. Also believing him when he wants her to do the exact opposite of what Mr. Morton wants her to do should have been suspicious. Inviting the dad to the dinner was ridiculous, there was no getting through to him especially since I feel like Arthur only wanted to reconcile/missed his mom. The ending was interesting b/c it ended in a similar way that Vol 1 ended. Even though I was mad at Ellie for believing or wanting to believe that Marco had changed I don’t think Will should have gotten mad at her, he should’ve just said I’ll believe it when I see it or something & then when he also got mad about her setting up a dinner with his parents he could’ve just said I’ll think about it. Somebody else wrote under Vol 1 about Mr. Morton/Merlin not helping & dumping this all on Ellie & how it didn’t make sense which I agree with after reading Vol 2, they could have been working together instead of him telling her what she needs to do & they could’ve come up with ideas together. One thing I don’t understand & that I don’t think is explained is how the dad knew what Mr. Morton said. Speaking of the dad we got a lot more of him than the previous books, I forgot how frustrating Uther was in Merlin so when Will’s dad was introduced I was surprised I guess even though I knew he had threw Will out of the house b/c Will didn’t want to go to military school & before that he was trying to force Will to go to the military school & I believe he said his dad was stubborn but like his dad really sucks, he’s not a good listener, he doesn’t care about what Will wants, he has a temper, he downplays every interest that Will has b/c his interests doesn’t align with his own, & when Will tells him his interests somehow he’s too young to know what he wants but not too young for the military, he doesn’t know his son, it’s his way or the highway & with that kind of thinking he won’t be in Will’s life at all. The line that Ellie said about Morgan not being the Queen in this life or the last but Jennifer being the Queen was really interesting. I am a little confused b/c it’s like Ellie & Mr. Morton don’t know who Morgan is & that is kind of frustrating, also I wonder if Morgan knows who she is, did Marco tell her. Also at the end where Meg talks about who King Arthur is & the people around him I wonder why she didn’t include a section about Morgause sense she included her in the book as Morgan.

Homecoming (Avalon High)
*While Elle is out running to clear her head, she runs into Marco who’s just got released. He convinces her he just wants to talk and leads her to the park. He tells her he no longer believes in the “reincarnation” stuff that’s why he got released

*He says he wants to make sure Will doesn’t either. Elle says he doesn’t. He says keep it that way. It’s the only way he won’t go the same direction and he asks Elle to talk to her.

*They’re interrupted by Morgan whose about to give Elle a beat down -possibly Marco- for not coming to see her first. He tells her “I called you didn’t u get my message-. It’s smoothed over and Elle gets the hell outta there so not to have to stand there and watch them make up

*Will isn’t buying and tells Elle he can’t just forgive and forget.

*After Elle has a nightmare Will agrees to have dinner with his parents

*All the contestants’ posters are wrecked for Homecoming Queen. Elle confronts Margo who accuses her of stealing Marco like she stole Will. And she plans to tell Will she’s fooling around with his brother. Unless she drops out of the contest.

*Morton isn’t happy that she planned a dinner because Will’s father is a non-believer. He’s shocked to find out Marco is out. Elle tells him to get over the reanimation stuff. Will is just a normal teenage boy. He brings up her nightmares and tells her she knows like he knows. Her nightmares are connected to the Merlin prophesy

*Marco shows up at the dinner. Marco says he’s taking community college courses and volunteering at the rest home. When he gets enough credits his dad will refer him to the Naval Academy. Will’s dad again tries to get him to go to the Naval Academy but will says he wants to study political science. The dinner gets cut short after that. Mr. Wagner and Marco leave. Marco tells him he might want to rethink what he said. Will tells Marco to stay away from his girl.

*Elle tries to tell Will about what Morton said but he thinks its hilarious. He promises her that he won’t let Marco hut her. She tells him to just try to believe.

*Later that night when she goes to look for Tig (her cat) she sees… (Morgan)

Rating 6: I didn’t have as many thought for this issue but still a decent storyline.

Ohhh my goodness.

Manga is not for me. It's just the way women are portrayed... Although, I think I'd be a little less infuriated if her character hadn't been completely butchered. I literally hated Elle in this. Picking up this book just left me irritated. I'm sorry, but if the entire plot of a book hinges on the main character being stupid, I don't get how that would be enjoyable? It's just painful to read...

I dislike her so much I don't even want to go into the stupidity of her thought processes and decisions, but what I will say is that every female character in this book is very poorly portrayed. They're all completely dependent on a man and are completely weak/follow them around. The only redeeming female character is Jenn, although she's vapid and one-dimensional.

And Will calling his step-mom he barely knows 'mom' annoyed me too- he found out she was his real mother and then she just watched as he got kicked out the house, and in the interim he's suddenly calling her mom? It doesn't make sense...

Ah 😭 I just really dislike this, I'm so sad because the premise was so fun!! I'll have to force myself through the 3rd one... 😭

I found book 2 at Half Price Books and remembered that I never did finish this series. I bought it.

I have the usual gripes about the hypersexualization of female characters. (Have you ever tried to stand like any of the females stand--especially with the very outthrust bust?) The art is good and I'd like to read some of the other books illustrated by the Jinky Coronado.

The main character is a bit too emotional for my tastes. It's been a while since I've hung around high school students so the emotions may be true to that crowd.

Is this really going to end with the next book? It seems like there's a lot to do in a day.

The art really continues to bother me. Like i can make my piece with it not being to my taste but again it has that early 2000s overly sexualized style for all the female characters, and yes i am aware it was written in 2008 but, on the other hand these are literally teenagers????

I did come in with low expectations though partially from the first book, and partially because the academic paper that led me to these books in the first place had a lot to say on female characters, their role in Arthuriana, and the portrayal of ‘Morgana,’ in this book

Having know read it i have to agree with the paper

Avalon High: Homecoming
Excitement, mystery, and romance all in one! This book would be enjoyed by a young adult who likes to read Mangas and books about romance and drama among teenagers in high school. It is especially interesting because it mentions problems that many face today such as intrusive nightmares and thoughts that the main character had in the story. She also had many of her personal fears and her unstable relationships among other kids her age in the book. The main character is demonstrated as a strong, female character which some female teenagers can relate to in today’s society.
The main character in the book is named Ellie and she is a girl with a loving family and friends, and most of all, she has a loving boyfriend who lives with her. He lives with her not because he went against his parents by fighting to leave home, but because his parents kicked him out. “You’d think getting thrown out of his parent’s house and being able to live with his girlfriend is every guy’s dream.” (pg 10) Ellie’s boyfriend, Will, does not have the best relationship with other members of his own family. His brother, Marco, tried to kill him and Ellie once. “You tried to kill me. And my boyfriend, your brother remember?” (pg 25) Will’s dad does not have a proper attitude towards others. “Why, I ought to have notified the school board about that quack months ago!” (pg 175) Only his mother in his family is portrayed as loving and caring as both families eat dinner one day with each other. “Please Will. Your mother misses you so much.” (pg 73) Marcos’s girlfriend, Morgan is portrayed as evil as she is blackmailing Ellie to give up her spot to Morgan as homecoming queen. If Ellie does not drop out, she threatened her to tell others untrue rumors about her. Whether it’s the blackmailing or the distance away from a friendly relationship with family members, this scenario is one which some students in high school can relate to.
The story plot is one that is very significant, creative, and special. It talks strongly about how Elle feels about everything going on in her life and what her greatest fears are through flashes of her nightmare. One of them greatly about Marcos. Unlike any other story, in this story, it does not mention whether or not it was happily ever after for Ellie and Will. Instead, the story ends in misery when Ellie’s cat ran away and Morgan has gotten it and stole it from Ellie. “Tig! Where are you?!” (Pg 203) Ellie is very emotional in the story and shows great love towards her friends and her boyfriend and his family. In fact, she tried to deal out all the problems by inviting her boyfriend’s family to eat with hers one night. However, at the dinner, things go south as Marcos came and there was a disputation among Will’s dad and Will as they talked about Will’s future since his brother’s sounded all set and ready. Ellie also has great admiration for Will in the story and she would do anything to please him and make him happy. The story also incorporates small excerpts of romance between Will and Ellie to update the reader on how their romantic relationship is going on what the ups and downs of it are.
Overall, this book is a noteworthy one to read. I would recommend it to those who are interested in fiction and romance though with a bit of imagination or else the storyline may bore those who don’t find fiction or romance entertaining.

Ellie and Will are continuing their journey to discover the secrets of King Arthur. This is the middle section and has the intro to the Homecoming deadline. I really don’t like how she draws the female characters and the angles when the girls are on the panel vs. the boys. I do enjoy the rest.

Ellie's terrifying nightmares about a psychotic and tyrannical Marco begins soon after she encounters him in the park. Recently released from the mental hospital, Marco seems normal and harmless enough. Will, Ellie's boyfriend as well as Marco's brother, thinks otherwise. He absolutely cannot forgive Marco for attempting to kill him and Ellie before. As if that wasn't drama enough, Will is possibly the reincarnation of King Arthur, while Ellie is the reincarnation of the Lady of the Lake. All of this is according to Mr. Morton, their civics teacher, who also believes that the world would collapse if Will doesn't embrace his destiny by homecoming night, the day of the Hunter's Moon.
Worrying about all of this leaves little time for Ellie to think about the fact that she's been nominated for homecoming queen and that mean-girl Morgan is trying to sabotage her chances.

Another light and easy-to-read novel, I just sped through the story pretty quickly. There wasn't much substance in it, so I feel like there isn't much to say about it. It was an enjoyable read and would have been more so if it weren't so predictable. Admittedly, I haven't read the first book, so I'm sure there are important bits and pieces I've missed because of that. I do love the legend of King Arthur; so naturally, I love how it was placed in a modern-day setting. The story does end with a cliff-hanger, leaving room for the next book in the series. Overall, it's a good read if you're on-the-go or just bored and looking for something light to read

The cover of this one is a little touch ridiculous. Ellie's dress is pretty much ripped to shreds and Morgan looks like Jessica Rabbit. The story continues exactly where Volume 1 left off, with Ellie unexpectedly running into Marco. Marco seems to have made amends, but the shrewd reader/just about anyone can see that he's still his evil old self.

Not too much happens in this installment, even though its longer then the first volume. A dinner with Will's parents is quick and resolves nothing, Morgan threatens to tell Will that Ellie is cheating on him with Marco (she's not, duh), and Jennifer/Guinevere is determined to find Ellie the perfect homecoming dress. Oh yeah, and Ellie still has to convince Will that he is actually King Arthur BEFORE the night of homecoming or...the world will end. That world, always trying to end. Yeesh.

Volume 3 Hunter's Moon came out September 1st and I'm waiting patiently for my hold to pop up at the library. Yes, I'm going to read it. I actually do like this series, although it may seem like I don't. I find them to be just what I want them to be; quick, ridiculous, girly fluff. Ahhh...these go down like a big cup of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and pink sprinkles. Want to read an excerpt from the first volume? Check out Meg Cabot's website!

Chapter One once again tells us everything that has happend up to this point. Then the soap opera lives of the high school teens continues, though Will is mad at Ellie for the majority of the book saving me having to suffer through too much romance. Will still does not truly believe he is the reincarnation of King Arthur and to make matters worse his brother returns from the institution, where he has been since the end of the novel. He apparently went mad and tried to kill Will and Ellie. But now he returns reformed and cured, supposedly, and while he talks good talk, the teens have a hard time believing he has really changed. At this point I'm into the story enough that I'm interested in what will happen in the third book. But overall, I'm still not too impressed with this mediocre story, though it is better than Volume 1

Ok, let me preface this by saying that I'm not really into graphic novels and this review will reflect that, so take it for what it's worth.

Avalon High was one of my favorite books as a teenager, and I still reread it occasionally as a 20-something. It's a great story, but I've always been sort of indifferent about a sequel. I finally gave AH Coronation a shot as part of the PopSugar 2015 Reading Challenge.

Coronation just really fell short of the awesome that was Avalon High. The story felt flat and forced, and some of the characters were inconsistent with the development from the novel...seem to recall the Admiral being supportive of Will playing football, for example. It's a quick read (took me about 20 minutes), but I wouldn't bother unless graphic novels are your thing. Just go read Avalon High again instead.
