This as by far the best in the series so far. The character building of the friends continue and I found I developed emotional attachments to them. There are many fun scenes with Peyton’s friends.
The ongoing mystery continues and had me on the edge of my seat. The police procedural and political issues and successes are present as well. I’ve come to love this whole series!

Not my favorite in the series. The DA needs to man up and make a real commitment to one woman, the entire homicide division needs to open their eyes. They might be no closer to figuring out who The Janitor is, but it's becoming increasingly obvious to the reader. And both Peyton and Marco need to grow up and talk to each other. Seriously?! How believable is it for two people with a complete inability to talk to each other about important things make a partnership work?

The entire series is starting to read more like a romance series than a mystery/thriller series. Enough with the romantic tension already. Can we please get back to the mystery?

The romantic tension in this book is great. As a romance novel it would have worked - as a thriller it didn’t. I am not a romance reader and I found myself rolling my eyes in frustration when the storyline went back to the romantic side and became frustrated that the murder investigation wasn’t kept more in the highlight.

Peyton is the target this time...

Volume 6 in Peyton Brooks' Mysteries will definitely keep you glued to the pages (or to your player, as it was in my case:))...

The plot is extremely fast and intense, with Janitor recreating his own crimes, killing again using methods he already used once. What very soon becomes obvious - first to Marco, then to others - is that it's Peyton that the serial killer is really after this time.... So while trying to solve the case together with his partner, Marco has to also act as her secret bodyguard. But that's not an easy task, considering her passionate, independent character and his feelings for her...

What I like best about this installment in the series is that the plot, intense as it is, does not overshadow the emotional side of the story - Marco's feelings towards Peyton, his frustration and determination to keep her alive, but also her slow realization of how important Marco is for her. I think this emotional awakening on her part is excellently done by Ms Hamilton.

Considering the whole series, I would say this is the best part so far - the plot is developing very fast and yet smoothly, with enough twists and surprises to keep your interest in the crime, and at the same time allowing you to feel the emotional turmoil of the characters' personal lives.

As for the narration by Ms Hazen, it's impeccable - the pace is right, the interpretation of individual characters very good and the emotions conveyed ringing true.

#6 in the hard nose, caustic Peyton Brooks and her partner Marco D’Angelo San Francisco Police detectives mystery series. This series is starting to wear me down. The focus upon the relationship between Brooks and D'Angelo has been a major threat, but starting with #4, the book is running about 1/3 crime mystery and 2/3's the personal relation and struggles of both dealing with their personalities and not resolving anything.

This continues the personal sagas started in Murder on Alcatraz for Brooks and D'Angelo as each is struggling with their personal lives which is impacting their partnership and the police psychiatrist's report regarding their fitness for duty or being partners. To make matters worse, D'Angelo is suspected of murdering the man who attacked Brooks twice and the serial killer has resumed his killing spree.

Murder in the Presidio (Peyton Brooks' Mystery #6) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. San Francisco Inspector Peyton Brooks' life is extremely complicated. She has a past murder suspect in her spare room, and abusive receptionist is sleeping on her couch, her ex boyfriend is engaged, and her mom is in a relationship with a bigot. She doesn't believe that her life will get much more difficult. Unfortunately her partner of eight years becomes suspected of murder. Peyton feels she must keep Marco out of jail while still trying to find the serial killer that is on the loose. This was another great read by M.L. Hamilton and I absolutely loved listening to the life Kelley Hazen brought to the characters.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get anymore intense... things explode. With a serial killer on the loose, time is of the essence. With one of their own taken, can the SFPD get there before it’s to late?

Ms. Hamilton covers the full range of emotions is this installment of The Peyton Brooks Mysteries. It’s so good, you’ll be left wanting more!

The narration really brings this story to the next level. With so many different characters, each with there own personalities and mannerisms, you would think it would be difficult to follow along, but not so. Ms. Hazen delivers a fantastic performance!

Back with Peyton Brooks and company as things in Peyton's and Marco's lives on and off duty become more disrupted as they fight their feelings for each other. The Cleaning Crew Killer reappears, there are clashes between Peyton and the DA who can't quit give up on her despite his engagement. There are two trials form past cases, one successful and one not. Enough said, Just one more book to go in the set and then I will have to see if there are any more of he series, because I liked these quite a bit.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very entertaining. The Janitor still has Peyton and Macro running circles. His latest crime will change Peyton's and Marco's lives forever and they're still no closer to discovering his identity. This suspense filled plot will keep you listen, but the realistic characters will make you love it. This combination of author and narrator is awesome. I can hardly wait to start the next book.

Yet again, ML Hamilton takes into San Francisco parts unknown as The Janitor continues to weave his way into the homicide precinct and into the lives of Peyton, Marco and Jake. The wild ride continues. I can't wait for the next story to narrate as we go on this ride with some of the most wonderful contemporary literary characters ever created.

Well, its all coming to a head now. This sixth in the seven book series was heating up the issue with the crazed serial killer and the relationship issues started in the first through 5 books. Honestly, I'm getting tired of the "sexual tension" and am glad to be sorting this all out in the 7th and final book.

Buying the Next in the Series Right Now...Devouring These Books

I can't remember the last time I was this hooked on a series. As soon as I finish this review, I am going to buy volume 7.
These books are as close to flawless as I've ever read. Character development is excellent, (Peyton's crowd are my new best friends!) The story line always fresh and filled with action and white knuckle suspense. Friendship, family and romance are handled with subtlety, realism and a sort of dignity. They're never obvious or corny.
This series is exactly what books should be. They take the reader halfway but leave room for the reader to employ imagination and subjective feelings to make the story their own. That's why we read and why reading is a richer experience than watching a movie. These volumes are far more than words on a page. Meet these people; live, work, play, laugh and love with them and enjoy the ride.
