This book uses scriptures and references quotes of modern-day prophets to describe world events and happenings surrounding the second coming of Jesus Christ.
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and lived in the Cottonwood area. My first brush with writing was in the fifth grade, where I received unusual attention for poems I had written and a reading I did in class. That experience prompted me to continue to write.
In High School I had another teacher that singled me out for attention due to my writing, and encouraged me further.
Over the years I continued to write, as a hobby and, I'm sure, for cathartic reasons. While serving a full-time mission for the Mormon Church I began to do some religious writing--sending them to my Mission President, Elder Hugh Pinnock, for his perusal and criticism.
After my mission, and over the years, I would continue to send Elder Pinnock my essays and writings. He began to encourage me to write a book; especially encouraging me to write on the the Atonement, a subject for which he felt I had a unique insight.
In 2000 I was laid-up for several months by back surgery, and I decided that I should take the time to finally write a book. During that time I ended up writing three books: The Atonement, The Second Coming, and Obtaining Your Calling and Election (much of the work for the books had already been done as a result of my previous writings over the years; I just had to put them into book form).
The Calling and Election book was a joint project for my wife, Terri, and I. We had discussed and researched the subject for many years--all due to a reference to the subject I found in an old journal entry of my great-grandfather, David Edwards. He had received his calling and election from the hands of the Prophet, and noted it in his journal. There was little said about the event, just that it had happened. Our interest was piqued, and years later we felt we had gained enough information on the subject to write about it. At the time, and to our knowledge, it was the only book on the subject that had been written.
Unfortunately, Elder Pinnock died before my first book was published. As a tribute to my friend and mentor, Elder Pinnock, I wrote the book 'Becoming a Great Missionary'; which was a compilation of the teachings of Elder Pinnock on the subject of missionary work. His wife, Anne Pinnock, helped edit the book, and wrote the forward to the book.
Now I feel as though am well seasoned in writing and publishing books, and intend to continue to write as long as there is interest.
Before the review I would first like to say this, I find it very sad that any person gives a book a bad rating just because it was not what they expected when they clearly did not research on the author. How sad that people give it a bad rating because they didn't know the author is LDS. Anyone that took the time to find out just a little about him would of known. Just highlight his name and presto there it is. I can only assume that some of these reviewers were just entering to win books while in a hurry!
I recieved this book free in the Goodreads giveaway. Ok I recieved it and I asked my Father in law, who by the way is in our local wards leadership, to take a look at it first and he took one day and said it is wonderful so far, a great book. He read about half already and told me it would be helpful to anyone wanting to know more about what we believe will come to take place during the second comming. Now I have plans to read the book but wanted to give what I believe is a more important review by letting him read it first as I go to him often with questions about scriptures. If he says it is great then it has my vote! By the way, he already knew who the writer is as he has read his writting before. If when I am done and I have more to add, I will. Thank you.
This is a pocketbook of scriptural references and a summary of Bruce R. McConkie's "The Millennial Messiah". I am agnostic, but do enjoy reading about different religions and beliefs, but I find it rather pretentious for anyone to assemble a chronology on a supposed future event when it's a party they themselves are not a host of. If however, Jesus does reappear in Jackson County Missouri, I am curious as to whether my rent will be raised here in Northwest Arkansas. Also, if the Army of the Antichrist 200 million strong, is to be coming from the north, are they going to be primarily Canadian? JK my friends, jk...not my cup of tea I admit, but another book on the shelf and maybe I learned something.
A good book, but...since it views the second coming from only the Latter Day Saints viewpoint, it does seem rather preachy. I enjoyed reading the book, but I felt it would have been better if it was just on the second coming, rather then a "Join the Latter Day Saint Church, we have the last word on when Christ is coming back"
I am not Mormon, as you might have suspected, but I did enjoy reading this although some of the scriptures were a stretch for me. Overall, a useful book if rather one-sided.
A fantastic book! It has puts all the events from the scriptures in chronological order so simple minds like mine can understand them ;) It's very well written with tons of scriptural references (which I like), and handy charts in the back that make it as simple as possible. It's a great book, I recommend it.
In the scanning of this book it is difficult to understand due to it refers to the Mormon and Later Day Saints faith. Their books are different from the Holy Bible so I could not get a full grasp of what was being said. It does make reference to the Holy Bible and those parts I was able to understand and come away with some thoughts.
This sounds like a fascinating book. I'm looking forward to reading it and learning more. I think it will be a wonderful addition on my spiritual journey. I'm excited to see the content!
