From an obituary posted on-line: "Motivational speaker and former athlete Alfred "Skip" Wilkins Jr. was a Virginia Beach, Va., native. He injured his spinal cord soon after graduating high school. He married and graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in psychology in 1973 and became founding director of the Crisis Intervention Home for adolescents. His biography, The Real Race, exemplified his motto: "Build a Dream and the Dream Builds you." Wilkins, a quad field-event athlete, was selected 15 times to the U.S. Wheelchair Team and five times to the Paralympic Team. He was National Table Tennis Champion 10 times. As a motivational speaker, Wilkins pumped up CEOs and employees for companies such as Sunrise Medical, United Airlines, Hershey's and IBM.
