What’s worse than being abducted by aliens and then abandoned on a primitive jungle planet? Finding out you’re pregnant - that’s what. It’s all going to be ok, though. I’m a strong woman. I can cope with leaving my cheating ex behind on earth, and I can cope with doing this alone. What I can't cope with is the 7ft winged warrior-alien who has decided that I’m his. Me and Second Spear Mavyx don’t get along. We should stay far away from each other. So why am I asking him to help me out when my hormones have me acting like a cat in heat? Alien Protector’s Stars is a full length Sci-fi Alien Romance featuring a reluctant bickering couple who were meant for each other. Can the big virgin male help scratch a particular itch for pregnant Alana without complicating things with ‘feelings’? Alien Protector’s Stars is book 2 in the Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarians Series. It is advised that book 1, Alien Protector’s Mate is read first to be able to understand the world our heroines find themselves in.

look i love insta love in these books. i don't care if there's a fated mate situation or they just land on an alien planet, i'm okay with them easily falling in love. so i have to admit this frustrated me a little when she kept saying they're not-mate. like he build a house for her and she kissed him but kept saying they're not-mates??? girl please 🤚🏼

i had many questions from the first book like what is inside the temple? what really happened to their female? well we didn't get any answers but temple decided to give them a child in this book. he came in an egg and he was like 5 years old?? weird... i don't know what to make of this temple 🤨

i liked Alana and Mavyx. i don't like it when she rejects her mate and make him suffer but in this i could understand her reasoning. she was pregnant with her cheating ex's baby so she wasn't feeling this mate thing👍🏼 but i loved how patient Mavyx was and how he did things for her and her youngling. he's so cuuute and i enjoy their curiosity about woman anatomy because they know nothing and very eager to learn 🤭😋

also i love the world she created. it gets overwhelming with series when many characters mentioned but i'm curious about all of them. especially the girl(Dove) who escaped in the first book and apparently found a mate in the jungle in this book🤨 i need her story 😌

Great story overall!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💜❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 🤓😀😘🤩
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Alana - she was an employment lawyer back on earth. One day she walked in on her boyfriend with another woman, which destroyed her trust in men. It wasn’t long after that when aliens abducted her. Along with other females from earth, they were sold at auction to another alien, who took them away in his spaceship, which was filled with pods carrying other females. Suddenly the ship sets down on a nearby planet for an unscheduled stop when their captor tells them that the space police are in the area. and he needs to lay low. When they exit the ship on the hot jungle planet, some local fauna eats the alien. Alana and the other human females were later rescued by the local race of aliens. They are huge males, have wings and they sparkle.

The Hero: Mavyx - a Tryxikka warrior. Their tribe often make ‘seed’ offerings in life-stones to the temple goddesses who keep their females safe inside. They do whatever they can to protect the temple and keep their females and daughters safe. They hope repeatedly to be received by the goddesses, and to hear that that they have fathered sons with their seed offerings. Though they mostly hear that they have fathered further daughter whom they will never see.

The Story: Alana has been worried about the fact that time has gone by, and she is starting to suspect that she might be pregnant by her ex. She is not happy to see that Mavyx, Rynn’s second in command, has basically claimed her, so she goes to the leader of the other tribe of Tryxikka’s and tries to teach him how to shake hands. Mavyx doesn’t like the fact that she is touching another male, and he growls at the leader which creates some sort of incident between the tribes. Mavyx had never wished for a mate, but his heart stars are alight for Alana, meaning she is his fated mate.

I don’t know if it was the storylines or Reagan West’s voice, but this book really kept me interested. Even when nothing much was happening except the two main characters getting to know each other, I was fully immersed. The story was good for the most part, though one thing I didn’t like was how long Alana kept asserting that Mavyx wasn’t her mate. Despite her past with her ex making her cautious, she liked and was attracted to Mavyx for a long time before finally accepting him. She knew his character and he did so much for her while she still claimed they weren't mates.

This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in dual narration by Reagan West and Gabriel De Leon. Reagan West has a very pleasant voice and speaks very naturally. She is good at doing different voices for different characters. Gabriel De Leon has a deep, smooth voice that works well for the huge aliens. It is sexy and expressive.

Torn between 3 and 3.5 ⭐️

I’m torn because the writing was good, and the plot that’s unraveling is very interesting. I liked being able to catch up with the characters from the previous book and I liked what was going on with the side characters. However I found myself more interested in the side characters rather than the FMC.

‼️SPOILERS AHEAD‼️

Mavyx found his mate in Alana and boy am I sorry for him. He literally carried that entire relationship and did EVERYTHING for her and all of the chapters in Alana’s POV made me feel like she was just taking advantage of him.

Alana enraged me 🤦🏻‍♀️ I really wanted to like her and I tried to relate to her, but most of the time she made want to throw my kindle across the room… I found her very self-centred and annoying up until the last page.

It did not feel like I was reading a romance book, because of her active refusal to acknowledge that his feelings for her were true up until 93% of the book. I feel like she used him for whatever she needed/wanted and then would discard him by telling him they’re “not-mates”. Mavyx let her run the whole show and she did a shit job at it.

The saddest part is that because of her behaviour and lack of empathy towards her mate, it didn’t feel like she fell for him. Not even after they face serious danger and she “realised” she has feelings for him which happens at the end of book and the epilogue did nothing to convince me that she harbours any feeling for him other than a crush..

Alana and Mavyx were super cute together. They had that whole “I love to hate you” thing going on and a slow burn for their romance. I don’t know if rejected mates is the right phrase for how they started, since humans don’t have the twinkly lights that tell them who they’re meant to be with. Alana got the short end of the stick with the whole being pregnant on a barbarian alien planet thing. She was fiery but compassionate, able to go toe to toe with Mavyx and his stubborn stoic ass. I’m enjoying the continued slow build up of info on the planet, culture, and “goddesses”.

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: voyeurism, violence, gore, animal attack, pregnancy, labor, birth, ableism. mentions of: cheating (by former partner), death of parent, abduction, captivity

Slow-Burn Perfection with a Side of Stubbornness!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh, Mavyx…how do I even start? His perseverance and thoughtfulness are next-level, and he’s officially raised the bar on broody book heroes. This series is chef's kiss, and I’m already over here desperately waiting for the next one!

The slow burn? 10/10. The mutual resentment and forced proximity? Also 10/10! Alana and Mavyx are put in situations they absolutely didn’t ask for, and their reactions are so real and relatable. I mean, who doesn’t get a little stubborn (and maybe a tad resentful) when life throws you curveballs? Watching these two wade through their complicated feelings was just the right mix of tension and heart.

If I had one complaint, it’s that I could have easily read another hundred pages of this story. Less rush, more angst! But honestly, this was still fantastic, and Alana and Mavyx might just be my new favorite pair. Loved every second of it!

Five stars for the alien bird-guys and their human mates!

First I want to say this is not my normal read… I’m an epic fantasy/romantasy lover, slow burn queen… but this series has my heart.

It’s sweet, and spicy, and absolutely hilarious.

These bird-alien-dudes are absolutely clueless when it comes to women (because none of them have ever seen one before!) but they are so so so so so willing to learn, and I’m obsessed.

And Dove & Ezryk’s love story is my favorite of the series so far.

Moody Shadow daddy sexy alien vibes from Ez, and he praises the ground Dove walks on.

The ups and downs kept me reading, I can’t wait for the next installment of Alien Protectors from Melissa Emerald.

Alana (h) is part of a group of women abducted by aliens, auctioned, stranded on a primitive jungle planet, and rescued by a tribe of winged aliens, the Trixikka. Mavyx (H), the tribe's Second Spear, struggles with the realization that Alana is the mate he never wanted. Alana resists the of being Mavyx's mate due to her past relationship experiences and things become more complicated when she discovers she's pregnant with her cheating ex's baby. Despite their initial bickering and disagreements, Mavyx is patient and helps her during her pregnancy. Alana's concerns over being in a relationship seemed to be of more importance than Mavyx's, even though suddenly finding himself with a mate was just as much a shock for him, especially considering he has no knowledge of females or sexual activities. He seemed like much more the giver in the relationship, and she was much more the taker, when you consider all the things he's done for her in the course of their relationship and how she's treated him for so long. It was nice having some more or Serena and Rynn, as well as some exploration of the other women and Trixikka - so many more stories to tell. Lots of action and adventure in this fated mates alien romance with building hot and steamy action – loved how the Trixikka are inquisitive and coming forward with questions and wonderment. Can’t wait for more in the series - so want to know more about the 'temple', the eggs, and what’s inside. Hopefully Ricky is going to get his own story at some point.

Let Down from Book One

I had a hard time with Alana’s character in this book. In the first story, she seemed more level headed and fierce. I was excited to see her story, especially with the pregnancy plot. However, the Alana in this book felt like a completely different character. She seemed more like a bratty teenager with how she handled her feelings than a grown woman.

And how she was so cruel to Mav throughout most of the story by constantly denying his feelings and using him almost made me DNF. The side characters and world building were really the highlights of this book and why I didn’t rate it lower.

I would also like to see more consistency in future books of how the female characters want to be integrated into this world. It seemed like a lot of the fire and determination from them in book 1 went away here, and most were happy to defer decision making to the males.

Really hoping the next story will pick up again!

2.5 ⭐️ I knew the real yearners weren’t on Earth.
The slow burn really proved that as well as my patience. And then! The spice was closed door.
Closed door!!
They don’t even have doors!!!

But Mavyx does end up impressing me with his thoughtfulness and inherent sweetness giving us gems like this:
“Complicated? There is nothing complicated about it; I am hers to do with as she pleases. I have no choice in the matter - and even if I did, I'd choose her every single… time.”

Meanwhile, Alana’s hormones do no favors for her personality.

It was a bit more boring than the first and so drawn out that I was almost glad when something bad finally happened.
There are also tons of spelling and grammatical errors that were almost as off putting as she was.

I’m so sad that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book in the series. I found Alana super annoying as a character. I fully understand all the emotions she was going through because of her situation but I still found it overwhelming annoying. It felt like there was no plot and really nothing moving this book along. The only real action was in the last 10% of the book. I just feel like this story could have been executed better and I’m let down that it wasn’t.
I’ll still be continuing on with the series, fingers crossed I enjoy the next one more!

Obsessed with this series

Melissa Emerald delivers a masterclass of SciFi romance with "Alien Protector's Stars". I absolutely adored and devoured this slow-burning, fated alien-mated, mixed with pseudo-enemies-to-mega-lovers. I loved the push-pull dynamic and angry, spicy banter between Alana and Mavyx. The growth in their relationship felt subtle, realistic, and engaged in the story. The danger and drama of the alien planet keeps the series narrative interesting, and I can't wait for the next book!

First of all I'd give this book five stars just for Mavyx alone, okay? He was the cutest sexiest and sweetest sparkly skinned alien dude everrr. 😍 He also had such a delightfully filthy mouth on him for a virgin and my gawdddd y'all did it have me 🥵.

Anywayyy 😂 This book surprised me. Not even gonna lie. From how book one went for me and how the book blurb for this one made me assume how certain things would play out in this book, well I was already pre-annoyed, ya know? Like I was thinking I knew how this was gonna play out and I was already super annoyed about it because I just knew I was going to be writing a three page rant on Mavyx' behalf.

But, I'm super happy to be proven wrong. Now, admittedly the first half of the story was trying for me. I didn't particularly like Alana all that much. She did eventually grow on me a bit and I did begin to understand her frustrating behavior when it came to acting like her pregnancy didn't exist and burying her head in the sand about it and her constantly rejecting Mavyx.

Now I didn't quite forgive her for her treatment of Mavyx tbh. Sorry not sorry y'all! But I did mostly come to understand why she was so resistant to the idea of accepting his claim on her as his mate.

Mavyx was just adorable though! He was a bit of a grump but I adored him. He felt more real to me than Rynn ever did in book one. In fact, this entire book felt much more fleshed out in terms of the plot and the character development. The relationship between Mavyx and Alana genuinely felt like they grew to love one another and that they actually shared their life's with each other and bonded. I enjoyed that so much.

And Mavyx called her "my star" like come onnn 🫠😌

Overall it was just a solid enjoyable read for me. It definitely got better as it went on as the first half was a bit meh imo, mostly due to Alana constantly denying him as her mate and her pregnancy.

Rant incoming, so skip to he end for my fave quotes if you want 🥴

I think my biggest gripe about this series thus far is that the author hasn't put much thought into how these women treat these alien men. They're all rather innocent in comparison to them and how their society of men has lived up until their arrival. While I totally understand the women only worrying about themselves or being selfish about how they want to be treated and such I find it extremely irritating that none of them have once thought how difficult this is for the guys? Like, these women have disrupted their entire way of life ya know? And they're not being considerate or respectful at all about their boundaries or previous rituals or routines. I see a lot of the men learning about the women and how to impress them and obviously learning about sex and how to please them as well. But what I am not seeing is the women giving back to them. It's somehow all about the alien men adapting to make the women more comfortable in their own society, which I understand to a point. But the women don't think about if they should ask if this thing is done there or if they'd be okay with something, they just want to push their way of life on them to be comfortable.

For instance, the constant rejection of being ones mate. Like listen, if one of the dudes heart-stars start twinkling for them then that means that they're their mate. Simple. But the women don't seem to care at all. I totally get being wary, unsure or even disbelieving of such a thing existing. But so far the two women just reject the idea outright. They don't ask any questions about how it works or what it's supposed to mean, or what it means to the mate who claims to be their mate. They don't ask what he wants or if he wants to even get to know one another and see if they are compatible despite the heart-stars, ya know? Nada. It's just insane denial, lots of references to being a feminist by denying his claim on her person anytime he calls her "his mate" or "mine" and that's that. No consideration, no compromises, no respectful approach to the fated mate stuff at all. This means everything to them, is considered a great blessing from their Goddesses and yet not one see it from their POV. That above all is the most fucking frustrating part for me. Especially because Alana in this book continues to complain that Mavyx didn't even like her for more than half the book, and by then he'd done everything opposite of "not liking" someone which proved otherwise. She kept acting like his heart-stars were making him feel strongly for her whether it be his attraction or his need to protect and care for her. So she completely disregards his feelings about her being his mate because it's inconvenient to how she feels.

Which sure to some degree is valid because why is it her problem if his body is flashing lights telling him she's his mate when she doesn't feel the same right? But that's not the point. The point is a lack of consideration and respect regarding mates and how precious and sacred these men felt about it. Instead we just focus entirely on the women and what is their right in all this and what they want and will consent to which has its place, for sure, and is very important here but what gets lost is offering the same in return for the men.

Like, in book one Alana was scared out her damn mind at the possibility of being pregnant for many reasons and one of them was worrying if these alien men would accept her human child and not one of their own kind or would they want to kill it. Did she ever ask someone about this very valid concern? Nope. Did Serena ever ask her mate about this on Alana's behalf? Nope. No one even attempted to ask this even in a "hey would you accept a child from outsiders?" or nothing. Even in book one i was thinking why is no one asking the important questions?!?!

*deep breath* And I'm done ranting about that. 🫣

I dunno, it's hard to really explain now that I'm trying. I just felt like, particularly in the first book, there was no balance. It was all giving from the men and taking from the woman. It's fine if they're learning to cohabitate and learn about each others cultures but it's more than that. I just find it odd. Especially with the over sexualizing the men and all the supposed fun of them teaching these naive virgins about women's bodies and how to pleasure them. Yes, that can be fun to read about to a point but then when it's oversaturing the entire story it cheapens the feelings of the characters and their interactions with one another, ya know?

And yeah I know this is just a fun little smutty alien read and it's not that serious ok? 🤪 and I HAVE enjoyed them for what they are but considering this actually does have a plot to go with it I just can't help but be frustrated by this, ok? 😆 Like these dudes are so clueless and these women are all dick measuring and sparkles jokes and acting like a horny bunch of teenagers and I'm just... 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe I just can't relate as much in the same way. Who knows. I just know my feathers get all ruffled on these dudes behalf for some reason like what can I say? 😂🤭🫣

"You then came outside and I watched as you told the night sky you were scared. I... I do not know what you are afraid of, Ah- Lanah, but I will battle it for you, if I can."

Such an angry little thundercloud she is.

"Say please, bossy little female."

Does she know that she is the only one who commands that heart? That heart would never hurt her.

"Anything you needed from him, need it from me instead, Ah- Lanah." And I mean that - I swear on spear and feathers, I swear on Tribe and Temple, I swear on all our nameless Goddesses. She can call us 'not- mates' if it makes her wary heart beat easier, but Ah- Lanah is mine and a whole tribe of 'Joshes' couldn't take her from me. I just need her to know it, too.

Not- mate or not, this is mine. She will see.

"I will wait," he murmurs. "I have many 'little whiles' to give. I can give my little whiles to your youngling, Ah- Lanah."

Content/Trigger Warnings/Enticements: Birth (epilogue), deceased mother, cheating by past partner.

“Ah-Lanah spins and it's like a fire lights in her eyes. Good. If I cannot ignite heart-stars in her, then let me light this. Let her suffer with this, just as I am.”

Alana suspects that she’s pregnant, but she has this big winged dude (Mavyx) whose stars light up for her and very obviously believes her to be his mate. This is their story.

Alana is so far up Denial, and Mavyx is so eager just to make her happy, and I had to alternate between giggling and panting with this story. And then we have this slow build into something where he proves how different he is from her ex, and how good of a man he is, and it’s delicious. Aliens as fathers could teach lessons to human dads.

After book 1 I was following this author and joined her newsletter so I could know when book 2 dropped. And then it was coming, and I started drooling on my phone. I can’t wait for book 3.

Loved this!!!

First off, I typically don’t like the tropes presented in this book, but OMFG I loved this take!

Surprise Pregnancy
Rejection of Fated Mate Bonds
Miscommunication

Yeah, I know, my top 3 no thank you’s all in one book, and I loved it, go figure!

FMC- I love Ah-lanah’s character. She is feisty, funny, but also a grump. She doesn’t sugar coat or act happy just because it’s expected of women in most social settings. She’s a fierce advocate and she’s loving in her own way.

MMC-Mavyx is a total hottie with long hair and he’s a grumpy birdman. He really sucks at communication. He could have just SAID something!!! Ugh! If you like angst you will love this story, it drove me nuts.

I love the continued world building, the demon-apes scare the shit outta me, and I love these birdmen and their female mates so much!

The whole story is they are both afraid of getting hurt by the other one, or not having total control over their feelings, fear of rejection, etc.

Mavyx turns a 180 though and does EVERYTHING he can to be the best mate, provider, protector, and friend 😭❤️

I laughed, I cried, I blushed, enjoy!
