International bestselling author J.A. Owenby grew up in a small backwoods town in Arkansas, where she learned how to swear like a sailor and spot water moccasins skimming across the lake.
She finally ditched the south and headed to Oregon. The first winter there, she was literally blown away a few times by ninety-mile-an-hour winds and storms that rolled in off the ocean.

Eventually, she longed for quiet and headed up to snowier pastures. She now resides in Washington state with her hot nerdy husband and cat, Chloe (who frequently encourages her to drink). She spends her days coming up with ways to torture characters in a way that either makes you want to throw your book down a flight of stairs or sob hysterically into a pillow.

J.A. Owenby writes new adult and romantic thriller novels. Her books ooze with emotion, angst, and twists that will leave you breathless. Having battled her own demons, she’s not afraid to tackle the secrets women are forced to hide. After all, the road to love is paved in the dark.

Her friends describe her as delightfully twisted. She loves fan mail and wine. Please send her all the wine.

Wynter & Quinn’s Story

I must say I truly love these two characters, Wynter and Quinn. But I’m not going to lie a few times I wanted to slap Quinn upside the head for his stupidity.

In the previous books, we had seen Quinn in a happier state of mind…… but now we see Behind the curtain, into his dark life …… holy HELL all that young Quinn has seen and endured under Adam’s evil hand

Damn when I finally got to the reason why Quinn had held So much animosity towards her, you’ll be WTF

But holy hell all that Wynter had went through ..that poor girl went from social butterfly to an Outcast Overnight. …. And the reason will shock you shi$less

She comes to me like a fading dream
Beautiful but just out of reach
She calls to me like a whispered prayer
Always so close, but not quite there

At the tips of my fingers, the tip of my tongue
She’s the one I crave, but she can’t be the one
The echoes of the past grip me tight
Forever keeping me from her light

I watch from the dark, craving her touch
I’ll take what I want, take too much
If I can’t have her light, I’ll give her the dark
Despite what she wants, I’ll leave my mark

At the tips of my fingers, the tip of my tongue
She’s the one I crave, but she can’t be the one
The echoes of the past grip me tight
Forever keeping me from her light

I’ll mark her even as she marks me,
Taking from her as she takes from me
I’ll drag us both into the abyss
And seal our fates with a stolen kiss

At the tips of my fingers, the tip of my tongue
She’s the one I crave, but she can’t be the one
The echoes of the past grip me tight
Forever keeping me from her light

I can say this one is by far my fav book of the series. The more your getting into the book you will realise the reason behind Quinn's hatred toward Wynter. Like all the books written beautifully... Wynter and Quinn's chemistry was damn good. I cant say much without spoiling anything so lets just say I
Loved this one😍😍😍😍😍

This book tackles a theme that I have not read yet, and I definitely think more books of the sort should be out there.

I would say the MPG was inclined more towards the Thriller/Mystery/Crime rather than Romance.
It was a true journey of discovery, unravelling, and healing for both MCs. But their romance was backstage.

The last 20% of the book was packed with off-the-page triggers that were mentioned and documented briefly and in a condensed way.

There was so much potential with all the themes to make this way darker and really utilise the carefully crafted elements throughout this book and this series to their extent.

Speciafically, I wish the Secret Society/Masked MMC/Band of Brothers was played in a different way.
I also wish that the American Football and this being a Dark Sports College Romance was more evident.

To describe Wynter in one word, she's STRONG. I think she lives up to her name.
As for Quinn, he carries so much anger in him till the end of the book.

In sum, it's a story of healing and seeking justice.

I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. Once I picked this up, I didn’t put it down until I was done. I have so many feelings running through my mind about this book, but I’m going to try to sum it up. Wynter and Quinn’s stories are equally dark, intense, and shocking- and that’s putting it mildly. They’re both trying to move on from tragedy, when Quinn discovers who Wynter really is. What starts out as revenge turns into SO much more than that. This absolutely took my emotions on a ride I was not expecting. My heart felt like it was in my throat for most of this book, and just when I recovered from a plot twist, a bigger one was right around the corner. This is a story that will sit with you for a while.

Oh my goodness! This book truly packs a punch. I knew to expect dark subject matter, but the twists in this story really had my heart clattering about in my chest. This book contains love, hate, joy, tragedy, heat and the cold ice impact of events that brought Wynter and Quinn to the point in time covered by the tale as it unfolds. The impact of the storyline is huge and kept me riveted throughout.
Winter and Quinn are really strong leads. The book is further enhanced by the rest of the cast, which includes so many familiar characters, as well as introducing new ones. Each person is distinct and interesting.
This has been a heck of a ride. It is compulsive reading and the subject matter will rattle round in my head for some time. Very good indeed 💖💖💖💖💖

Great read!

Just wow! I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this; I haven't read JA Owenby before and couldn't even remember the snippet, but boy - it starts off with a blaze and doesn't let up! Super interesting storyline that delved into some pretty heavy topics. If you're a sensitive reader, you'll definitely want to check out the TWs beforehand. Both of the MCs have tragic pasts and it's wonderful to see how they were willing to mature and grow for the other. The story was really gripping with tons of twists and turns, definitely a book that completely rips you apart before it puts you all back together again. If you're a fan of a little bit of revenge, a little bit of bully, and a whole lot of spicy, this will be the book for you!

GO IN BLIND!!!

Do not read reviews that may spoil the plot/story! With that being said, I'm going to give my review without spoiling anything.

This book hit me in the heart! Like tear my heart out, stomp on it, and then put me back together again. I felt the emotions on the page.

Wynter has been through SO much. While we don't know her full story at first it beautifully unfolds.

I definitely wanted to hit Quinn a few times, but as time goes on, we see how Wynter and Quinn are intertwined.

This story has some heavy hitting/controversial topics, but it is beautifully done, and it helps tremendously that we get to see into someone's mind that Wynter loved dearly.

J.A. Owenby does a phenomenal job bringing important topics up in all of her books.

I am not sure where to start with what has to be the most gut-wrenching, intoxicating, heartbreaking , yet deeply emotional story of 2023, I am not sure if anything will beat it this year.

JA Owenby has already produced something special with this series, one that I am already addicted to,, so I should have been prepared for Wynter and Quinn, but nothing could have prepared me for these two broken young people whose lives are tragically intertwined, and as the book comments ’a couple full of hate and anger.’ .

Wynter and Quinn's worlds are about to collide in college, and when Quinn finds out who exactly Wynter is, he has one goal destroy the girl whose brother took his world away from him, but is Quinn just a puppet and if so, why?, Add in the hot chemistry between Wynter and Quinn that blew me away and gave yet another dynamic to Toxic Obsession, then add the devasting dark secrets that are about to bring the past and present together with devasting consequences truly make this story stand out and rounded off with an extra star HEA.

Ms Owenby cannot produce anything to match this thrilling tear-jerker couldn’t put down read, or can she?

THIS BOOK WAS TOO GOOD FOR WORDS!
Quinn had me absolutely infuriated for a good portion of the story because he fought so hard against what was right in front of him. Wynter is a badass survivor and probably one of my favorite FMCs I've ever read. But when I tell you this book WRECKED me on so many levels... the twists and turns and gut wrenching plot twist. I devoured this book in 1 sitting. I literally cannot recommend enough.

Wow from reading the book blurb I expected a completely different story but damn this one surprised me in the best way. This was the first of J. A. Owenby’s book I’ve read and I will definitely be adding more to my list.

Quinn and Wynters story is insane and there were so many reveals etc and the plot ended up being more than just them and Quinn’s revenge tale. Like 🤯, I read this book pretty fast and maybe have stayed up a smidge late as I couldn’t put it down. Please check the content/ trigger warnings because this touches on a lot of serious topics and some completely unexpected ones.

Wow, just wow.. I’m still processing it all to be honest 😂

Wynter and Quinn’s story is a heartbreakingly intertwined one.
They are both trying to move on from a tragedy. He wanted revenge, but found more. Wynter is one of the strongest females I have read in a long time. She has been thru so much. Although, I felt for Quinn there were times I wanted to shake him to make him see the truth that was right in front of his eyes. I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest while reading certain parts of this book. This one will definitely stay with you for a while. I know it will me.

What can I say, this book was amazing on so many levels. IT was dark, twisted, a little disturbed, and full of tragedy, heartbreak, and secrets dying to get out. The chemistry, the way the book was written, and every thing in between was just mind blowing. It kind of makes you think a little after your done reading. I hope to see more from the secret society.

This was a wild ride! I had a bit of a challenge connecting to the characters in the beginning but so glad I pushed through. The amount of mystery that was plotted throughout was perfect.

This whole story made beauty out tragedy and I loved how Wynter and Quinn connected and grew with one another.

I really enjoyed reading this and am so curious now. There are other books that are interconnected but can be read as a stand alone like this one!

Really strong powerful prologue. I felt like it hit me square in the chest and now I'm desperate to know what happened.
We start off getting to know the characters. It's clear to see that what happened in their pasts have shaped who they are today. Winter wants a better life for herself and her sister and she'll get it by any means necessary. They get by, but they struggle. Quinn, on the other hand, wants the same things but he's in a better position financially.
The author provides us with little snippets of information indicating that there is tragedy in both of their pasts and it somehow connects them both. When Quinn is given this information, he's set on revenge. He wants Wynter to pay for her role in what happened. What makes this more intriguing is that we do not yet know what that is. I like the authors managed to leave us with just enough and wanting more.
What I like about this book is the way the author leaves us hanging with dramatic effect, at the end of a chapter. I feel as though we get close and then we're left with more questions.
Once we do find out what really happened however, it wasn't at all what I expected. I do have to say that readers would need to tread carefully as there are sensitive topics that could be triggering for some. Having said that, I appreciated how this author told both Quinn and Wynter's story and despite wanting revenge, Quinn did turn things around. I also appreciated that the storyline was based around issues in everyday life, and how those issues can affect everyone. I feel this story highlights how actual facts can be misconstrued if they are not in their entirety and how social Media can spin stories.
One moment can tie people together and affect so many in very different ways.
This story gives us a look at both sides of this tragic story and your heart goes out to both Quinn and Wynter equally. It also shows how our grief and anger can be used against us, to manipulate us into seeing a different version of the truth.
Once Quinn realised the error of his ways, they both worked together to talk about what happened and to try and get to the truth of what really happened. Quinn's character really stood up and owned what he did, he didn't shy away and put effort into showing Wynter he could be trusted. Wynter is a strong character, she sows this by not allowing what Quinn did to push her into running, she finally had the courage to speak out.
Right when you feel like you have a handle on things, another revelation is learned. I was in shock. I couldn't read fast enough and it was like my heart was in my throat as I read. The final truth is nothing liked you expect and I felt like I was stunned speechless. But not only that, the author manages to invoke a plethora of different emotions with this story and my mind keeps going back to how things like this can actually happen. It makes you imagine, or at least try to, how it would feel to be in their shoes.
Tragedy and deceit bought Quinn and Wynter together but they managed to see past that to come together to try and educate people on what really happened and to listen to people when they need help, to not brush things off and ignore what's going on.
There were times where I thought the writing didn't quite flow easily, but it was still written really well, it had a strong message, one that shows us that we see what people choose for us to see, that we never truly know how a person is feeling despite how well we know them.
This was a powerful read and one that I will sit with and contemplate for the next little while, well done and thank you.

I am going to be completely honest, the entire time I was reading this book, I was thinking, this is a 4-star read. But I got to a certain point and honestly gasped out loud because I was not expecting that twist. It was then instantly a 5-star read.

"It's easier if you don't rely on anyone except yourself. That way the only person you have to blame with life goes to shit is you. Don't forget that."

This is the second book by J.A. that I have read and they get better and better every time. I agree with everyone that said to go into this book blind. It is so much better that way.

I was instantly hooked. I read this in a few hours because I.COULD.NOT.PUT.THIS.DOWN!!! It is that good. Be ready for a rollercoaster of emotions. Also, be prepared because as soon as you think you know what is going on or what is going to happen...NOPE! J.A. throws something in there that you did not see coming.

I liked Wynter and Quinn. They have both been through so much, both of them having a tragic story.
They both surrounded themselves with a group of supportive friends that would do anything for them no matter what. I loved that Gabby, Everlee, and Leighton instantly accepted Wynter and welcomed her with open arms. I also liked Janine and Brody.

This is a book that I will always wish that I could read over again for the first time. Thank you so much to J.A. Owenby and Wildfire Marketing for this ARC!

Thank you J.A. Owenby and Wildfiremarketing for giving me the opportunity to read 'TOXIC OBSESSION' before it's release.

WOW!! Once I started this book I could not put it down, it really took my emotions on a joy ride I was not expecting. My heart felt like it was in my throat for most of this book, and just when I recovered from a plot twist, an even bigger one was right around the corner. This story has some heavy hitting, controversial topics, but it is beautifully done.

Wynter (FMC) and Quinn (MMC) have had it rough, both trying to overcome and figure out what happened in the past and make sense of it. So many secrets and lies were uncovered along the way and I truly didn't see some of the things coming, the characters have family dysfunction, traumatic backgrounds and that's not even half of it. J.A. Owenby did a great job with the curve balls keeping me on my toes, the only reason it lost half a star was because there wasn’t much sport for a sports romance in my opinion. If you consider reading this book I recommend going in blind however please check the trigger warnings!

WOW! 🤯 This book was amazing! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and I LOVED it! 😍

Quinn & Wynter are the two MMCs and they are connected by a horrible tragedy in their past. They both hide secrets from one another that leads to revenge being played into their story. But, things aren’t always as they seem, and you learn that in the end.

This book kept me entertained the entire time. I kept wanting to find out who was actually telling the truth and who was behind everything that happened. This book too me through every single emotion. By the end, I was happy to find out what happened, but also pissed at the perpetrator. Which just proves how well J.A. Owenby wrote this book. So dark and twisted and I loved it! 🖤

Quinn and Wynter's book was a crazy rollercoaster ride of emotions.
I felt so bad for Wynter and what she needed to do to take care of her sister and home. She was so tough and proved she could do anything she set her mind to even after the trauma her life dealt her.
Quinn also had trauma in his life but he chose to let his father get into his head and that almost destroyed him.
The twists and turns you didn't see coming.
I'm glad that both Quinn and Wynter had amazing friends who were their support system when things finally came to a head and all their trauma and secrets were revealed. Their friends truly healed them and helped them get through everything.
I'm glad they finally heard each other's story and were able to help each other heal while finally being able to have their HEA...
This was a raw subject to write about but JA Owenby did it beautifully.

I’m still speechless and I finished the book a couple days ago!

This is without a doubt my favorite story from J.A. Owenby and that’s saying a lot because I love all of her work.

Toxic Obsession follows Quinn and Wynter and their dark and heartbreaking pasts. Their story left me in tears at points, and even in those moments I couldn’t stop reading. Quinn is at the top of his game but his life came to a halt when he finds out how Wynter is to blame for his tragic past. But as he sets out to ruin her, they both fine out just how twisted and intertwined their lives are.

The hits just keep coming with this one and just when you think you have it figured out the story shifts and sets you a new path. Please make sure to check the triggers! This story is not for everyone and could be devastating to some. But if you feel you will be ok then just jump right in, you won’t be disappointed.

This book was hard to put down, because I just wanted to get to the bottom of everything !!!! This was deff a dark romance with a lot of sensitive/controversial subjects. So Please read trigger warnings.

I’m still slightly speechless about Everything that went down in this book. Wynter and Quinn were dealt some cruddy cards in life. It’s crazy to find out how their lives are intwined.

If you have read the previous books in this series, you will see them make appearances. You can read this as a stand-alone. I personally have only read the 3rd book in this series and this is the 4th ( the first 2 are on my TBR.

Thank you J.A Owenby and Wildfire marketing solutions for allowing me to receive an ARC for my honest opinion!

Okay well I have so much to say about this book! It was truly amazing! I have already recommended this to friends. This book follows Quinn and Wynter as they are both navigating through the most formidable time in their lives. Their stories are equally dark and hair-raising and with the twists and turns this book takes you’re in for one heck of a ride! I would 100% recommend going in as blind as you can with this one! This story broke my heart but was utterly worth it! One of my favourite books this year! This book discusses some very sensitive topics so please check trigger warnings before reading and for the good girls who do end up reading this… Who do you serve? 😉

What a ride! I am destroyed by this book. I could not put it down. I have been into dark romances lately, and this one definitely delivered. The writing pulls you in and is so full of detail that you feel you are in the book.

I love the two main characters, Wynter and Quinn. I did want to slap Quinn upside the head for not seeing what was in front of him for a while. Wynter is one badass MFC. She is one of the strongest females I have read about in a while. She has been through so much as has Quinn.

This book is full of twists, turns, and secrets! All the emotions are there. If you can stomach a dark romance, pick this up and go in blind. Before you pick this up, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! They are very real.

Toxic Obsession is the fourth book in the Whitmore Elite series by J. A. Owenby, and it's another excellent read in this amazing secret society series! This one is Quinn's story. I was hooked from the very first page, and I didn't let go until the amazing last page!

Quinn and Wynter's chemistry was absolutely nuts, and the twists and turns in this one definitely kept me on my toes and kept me immersed, which made it really hard to put down! All in all, a fantastic read and highly recommended with way more than five stars!

I hate that I can only give 5 stars. This book is honestly more than 5 🌟 .
This book gives us an insight on Quinn, in other books we have seen him as a happy party goer, but now we get to see the broken man.
Wynter is the classic strong fighter I so love to see in this authors books, forget about weak, need to be saved woman !!!
This book gives you all the feels, don't worry if you end up crying or screaming while reading, I think we have all been there.
Don't miss out on another brilliant book from the whitmore elite series.

This authors knows dark romance and writes it well which Is why I keep coming back to her books! I could not put this down. This is stand alone in an interconnected series. All books stand out really well on their own .

Love a good enemies to lovers trope and this one delivers it well. Both Wynter and Quinn are complex well written characters who will make you fall for them. There is a air of suspense throughout the book. I figured out the plot twist quite early too for a change. This was fast paced, plenty of drama, action, suspense and spice. Loved this.

I really didn't know what was going to happen next. Usually when I'm reading a book I can figure out the end game, yes there's a HEA, but this book took me a while to put the pieces together. Let me tell you I raged right along with Quinn and Wynter. It's twisted and dark but also sad. The conflict and resolution is written in a way you can feel the emotions while reading. I got pissed, sad, laughed, cried, and smiled.
