Babel Inc: Multiculturalism, Globalisation, and the New World Order

Rate this book
Babel Inc. is an essential primer on the politics of globalisation and multiculturalism. Bolton demonstrates that conventional distinctions between the political left and right have been transcended by transnational corporations who regard the remnants of the nation-state as the last hurdle for global domination and the attainment of their "new world order." Babel Inc. is an expose of multiculturalism as a "social control mechanism" that scorches the earth in preparation for the coming of the rationale of global capitalism: homo globicus. This global man will be at home anywhere in the world because the world will be homogeneously liberal. If that idea seems farfetched now, perhaps at the conclusion of Babel Inc. it will seem less a possibility than a growing reality. The strength of Bolton's book lies not just in his studious research of historical facts, but also in his ability to focuses on the theoretical root causes of the problem, i.e., the dynamics of the Enlightenment and its religion of Progress, coupled with the starry-eyed American Puritanism, whose violent and inhumane secular avatars can no longer be ignored. "Dr. Kerry Bolton's book Babel Inc. Multiculturalism, Globalisation, and the New World Order has the potential to be truly explosive." - Mark W. Dyal

Babel Inc. discusses the tactics of our ruling "globalist oligarchy who, unlike feudal lords, or the old rural gentry, have no concept of noblesse oblige, no sense of honour or ethos beyond making money, and cannot see others as fellow Americans, Britons, French, et al., but only in terms of how one might be of use in the global economy." Bolton is scathingly critical of globalist capitalism and the role of the United States in spreading it. The elites use multiculturalism to destroy traditional cultures of blood and soil (with a special emphasis on Europeans). However, this is not their end goal, but rather a dialectical step towards a global monoculture with no more borders or nations, all peoples blended into one deracinated, rootless mass of atomized individuals sharing a vapid, nihilistic consumer pop 'culture' – cattle in service to their masters for all eternity. Among many other brilliant insights and turns of phrase, Bolton concisely makes a point I've been trying for a while to reify: "One does not solve any problem by trying to change or suppress 'human nature.' “The agenda of the globalists is to use multiculturalism as a transition phase towards the melting-pot of an integrated global workforce and consumer market. Multiculturalism implies 'diversity,' but the melting-pot in what Emma Lazarus and Israel Zangwill termed a 'crucible' implies a nebulous mass.
It is akin to alchemy where various substances are placed into a crucible to make something entirely new; in this instance a new human being: what I have here called Homo globicus. It is a dialectical tactic of using the pretence of 'diversity' and of supposed respect' for all the cultures of the world, to impose a standardised global system.”

“As a strategy for the breaking down of separate cultural and ethnic identities across the world, the multicultural agenda that to a considerable extent emanates from the United States, is not only for export but also for the home market. While military strategist Ralph Peters refers to America's lethal' culture undermining traditional states, the cultural virus that it exports dominates the United States itself. The U.S. oligarchy is as zealous to impose cultural nihilism on the United States as on any other nation. Because these oligarchs are not loyal to anything other than their money or their own dynasty, the United States is to them just the current host of their parasitic activities.”

I just love how reasonably unhinged this guy is. Homo Globicus. Lmao. Corporate leviathans manipulate culture to spread their markets globally while manufacturing loyal consumers. I think it’s a good summation and it’s super boring. From Rockefeller to Soros you have incremental social engineers on a global mission to “standardize culture” and expand markets. Some examples of how this happens:

Cultural Diplomacy: This includes things like the U.S. government’s ‘Hip-Hop Diplomacy’ program, which sends artists abroad to engage with other cultures and promote American values (propaganda). The United States sent rappers to countries in the Middle East to destabilize the youth, successfully opening and destroying their culture. Not necessarily a bad thing imo. Depends on the culture.

Corporate Influence on Heritage Sites: Corporations like Walmart have been criticized for building stores on or near culturally significant sites, which some argue contributes to the erosion of local traditions and heritage. They did this in Mexico while simultaneously celebrating Mexican heritage in the states.

Promotion of Global Consumer Culture: Through the spread of multinational corporations and their products, a global consumer culture is promoted, often at the expense of local customs and economies.

Media and Entertsinment: Hollywood and other global media conglomerates are seen as vehicles for spreading a standardized set of cultural values and narratives that overshadow local and regional stories. If you don’t see this at this point then idek.

This goes on and on in this book and it’s honestly impressive. Corporations use artists, cultural figures and hundreds of NGOs to promote movements and trends to subvert and standardize societies. He gives like a dozen historical anecdotes to support his thesis throughout the book. If a country is too closed and needs to be opened up? War. If a demographic is holding onto a tradition or culture that is in opposition to globalist aims? Shut it down and humiliate it until it complies with McDonification. Pleasure culture is the product. It’s Pinnochio’s world of toys. Chomskys words are poignant here when he said that the aim is to make everyone into an interchangeable cog in the machine of the global market.

The big questions that keep coming up for me are:

1. Should these cultures continue to exist in the first place? All Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe comes to mind.

2. Why is globalization bad?

3. The JQ

His stance in this book is essentially that these corporate steam rollers are cutting humanity off from natural born traditions, culture and identity and replacing it with their top down culture that is meant to use humanity as a farm for their corporate benefit.

Fun read just like Perversion of Normality.
