"I've been looking forward to reading this author's work for a long time. I was thoroughly impressed with the story line. I'm sure when we were in middle school we didn't imagine our teachers had this much drama going on. It's definitely an engaging read, especially at the climax. All I kept asking myself as I read was "What's next?" There were moments when I wanted to slap the main characters and moments when I laughed out loud. I loved the story, and I'd like to read more from this author." - An Amazon Reviewer Description An evening of doing laundry turns into pleasure and chaos for middle school teacher, Greta Stevenson and principal, Austin Johnson. Teresa Patterson is a hometown author so I wanted to support her. Spin Cycle was a quick read and quite amusing. As I read the book I was silently giving thanks that my youngest child only has one year of school left because if these are the type of people educating our kids we are in trouble...LOL
Although I felt there could have been more put into the story I am coming to realize that this genre or writing is really for the fast pace, give me the abbreviated version, type of reader, which I am not. Taking this into consideration, Spin Cycle is one of the better reads I have come across recently in this category, the story flowed from beginning to end and there was no indication of a sequel lurking on the horizon. I also picked up a copy of her novel "Ex-Boyfriend," which I will probably knock-out this weekend.
This book drew me in from page one. Teresa Patterson has become one of NY favorite storytellers. She keeps you intrigued with the storyline, which is why this is the second book of hers I finished in a day. I've dated a few Larry's before and I couldn't feel sorry for him at all.
Greta Stevenson is a by the book middle school teacher who’s finally starting to reap the rewards of the career path she’s chosen. Hard-working and dedicated to her students Greta is highly respected by the newly appointed Principal of her school, Austin Johnson. Principal Johnson also appreciates Greta’s beauty along with most of the other male faculty however Greta’s never mix business with pleasure attitude has held her admirers at bay. A chance encounter with Principal Johnson at the local laundromat changes all of this when Greta and Austin decide to throw caution to the wind and engage in an impromptu tryst during the spin cycle. The copulation was not just the result of Greta’s red thong being exposed while removing her clothes from the washing machine but a mutual attraction the two shared for one another.
Greta and Austin agreed that the episode would be a one time affair that would in no way affect their professional relationship. This would have been attainable if their sex-filled romp wasn’t captured on videotape by the owner of the laundromat, fellow teacher Larry Newsome. Larry wants to use the videotape as leverage to not only extort Austin but to weasel his way into Greta’s bedroom. Greta and Austin have to devise a plan to get the damaging videotape away from Larry before both of their careers are ruined. But unbeknownst to Austin and Greta is that Larry has a scorned lover from his past that is plotting revenge on him as well. Helping the story to culminate in a tumultuous fashion with readers wondering just how things will end for the book’s antagonist character Larry.
What did you like about the book? I enjoyed the fact that the motives for Larry unscrupulous behavior and maltreatment towards women were fully explained. There was no questioning as to why Larry was so abusive unlike many other books that create villains without ever exploring the cause of their actions.
What did you dislike about the book? I thought the premise was a little far-fetched although I don’t believe all professionals are demure in the bedroom. Engaging in sex in a public laundromat just seemed a little to over the top for a middle school principal. Perhaps if the utilized the bathroom of the facility but on the washing machine and folding table fully exposed to anyone who wandered in.
What could the author do to improve the book? Author Teresa Patterson made her villainous characters far more interesting than the main characters that the readers are supposed to be rooting for. Which can ultimately force the readers to not care what the outcomes for the main characters are. By ensuring that the protagonist characters are just as engaging as the antagonist characters, readers will be equally invested in all of the characters.
Greta is a middle school teacher and she loves her job, but recently it has come with a lot of drama. The drama includes and started with the new principle, Austin. After coming home from an exhausting day, Greta goes to the Laundromat to do her laundry. While there, Austin steps inside with his laundry, and one thing led to another and Austin and Greta had sex, while it is all being caught on the security cameras. The tape gets into Larry's possession a fellow teacher. He has wanted Greta for a long time and let's just say he snaps and tries to blackmail Austin.
The best way to describe this book is that it was HOOD-tastic mix with teachers gone wild. Normally this is not my kind of read as often with certain name-calling; however, it was good and with all that aside, I have to give it up to the author. The first chapter or I should say the first couple pages within the first chapter was funny. Greta was complaining about her day and just reading the way Greta was complaining, made you relate a little. The book might have been a little hood- ish at times but the author gave me my money's worth.
After the blackmailing, things really got interesting. While Larry is blackmailing Austin and Greta, there is a crazy psycho woman stalking and trying to kill Larry. In addition, to add to the drama of Greta being blackmailed there is a psycho caller calling and stalking her and it's not Larry. Everything was getting crazy for everyone. Other than certain name, calling in the book it was good. The book is sexually explicit with very strong graphic language.
Storyline: GOOD Intimacy: FAIR to GOOD (wanted there to be more) Enjoyment: GOOD Ebook length: 2020
"Spin Cycle" by Teresa D. Patterson was one ride I did not want to get off of! It is the story of teacher,Greta Stevenson and the new principal, Austin Johnson. One night at a laundry mat changes things between the two of them and when a videotape surfaces and lands into the wrong hands well things quickly spin out of hand. A story of betrayal, deceit, revenge and lies, this is one you don't want pass over.I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast paced, drama filled book. I look forward to seeing what else Teresa has up her sleeves. 5 stars.
I started this book and within 1 chapter I was finished. The plot seemed promising and maybe it actually is a good book, but I simply could not take the grammar and lingo. I read often. I finish a book a day in most cases, but this book I just wasn't into, at all. Not a book I will ever attempt to read again and I can only say with complete honesty I have only stopped reading maybe 10 books ever.
This is my first book from Ms. Patterson and I was not disappointed. Great story line it had romance, suspense even humor. This story is a fast read!!! I wonder if this story has a sequel if anyone knows please let me know!!!
I am still waiting for the sequel to this one!! Teresa Patterson sucks you right into the lives of her characters in this novel and you find yourself sometimes rooting for the most unlikely of hero!
