I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

I will preface this review by saying that being a nomad for the past several years has afforded me the opportunity to get multiple library cards from different cities. One of those cards offered this book as an audiobook. I’ve listened to presents on audio twice before. If I remember correctly.

I say all of that because I think the excellent narration by Helen Keeley is part of why I enjoyed this book so much. Her use of accents and inflections in the characters' voices brought the story to life.

The more I think about this book, the actual storyline or plot is pretty middle of the road in the sense of a secret baby, need to marry for heir/kingdom, royalty, etc.

What makes Sharon stand out to me? Maybe more than other presents authors is her prose. I know we don’t read Harlequin for the prose but there was something in this book that I don’t always get with romance. Sharon Kendrick and my other recent read by Ella Hayes really made me feel the romantic connection between the characters. I think their use of banter and metaphor really helped. A lot of people discount the romance genre because of “crap writing“ but there are some authors giving us lyrical sentences and Sharon Kendrick is still doing that. I think that was more evident because I listened to this on audio. Maybe I would’ve felt different if I actually read the e-book or paperback.

I enjoyed the story and if you have access to your library to listen to the audiobook, you definitely should! I thought the author did a great job with this one.

This one was a quick second chance, secret baby, royal romance. Emerald Baker spent one night with Prince Konstandin but didn’t tell him she was pregnant until the now King divorced his wife (the woman he married after their one night). Konstandin was adamant that he would ever love, but Emerald’s and his son would be his heir. Neither forgot about each other, but he was so mean for most of the book. The heroine just took it until finally she had enough. It was a quick read.

Quick Summary: A one night to forever romance

My Review: The King’s Hidden Heir by Sharon Kendrick is a Harlequin Presents novel. It was released in March 2024.

About the Book: Once upon a time a young prince turned businessman had a one night encounter with a commoner. He took her maidenhood. Soon after, they each chose a path that led away from each other.

Kostandin is now a king. When he unexpectedly returns to an old haunt, the woman he has never been able to forget (Emerald) conveniently finds a way to speak with him so that she can confess her hidden secret. He propositions her, only to let her go in the end. Will the two ever be able to reconcile and find their way back to each other?

My Final Say: This was an acceptable read. I wasn’t terribly blown away, but I did find it interesting.

Other: I’m a Harlequin Presents fan. I have been for a while. Sadly, I have not been able to find a 5er in a while. This was better than some of the others in have read as of late. Still, I long for the days of old where every HP was top notch. (If anyone can recommend a 5 💫 read, please let me know. I’m ready to get my hands on one. In the meantime, I’ll likely be dusting off my favorites shelf.)

Coat check attendant Emmy Baker can't resist the sexy advances of Prince Kostandin during one hot night in London.
But now the prince has gotten to be king, and when he finds out Emmy has had his son (don’t worry, it wasn’t in the cloakroom) he demands she marry him! it is hard for an ordinary woman to put her wits against a man with all that hereditary Royal power, but can Emmy really devote her life to a man who doesn't believe in love?
Lost myself in this one - a great ride and perfect escapism during what’s been the weirdest winter here in the desert.
More please!!!

Can I give it 10 stars? Amazing love story! Steamy and passionate! Finally an author who gave me a true alpha hero. Arrogant, cold and sexy as hell! I can’t blame heroine for not being able to resist him! Heroine was innocent but her banter with the hero was so funny. Secret child is a nice trope but in the hands of SK it became an epic love story! Couldn’t put this book down! More alpha men like Kostandin please…..

SAFE: both hero and heroine were celibate during their 6 years separation!

This book is a captivating page-turner that will keep you engrossed from start to finish. The compel

The reviewer chose a five-star rating because they found the character Emerald to be sassy and unwilling to back down, even in the face of the powerful king. This strong-willed and defiant personality was seen as a positive attribute by the reviewer, who appreciated Emerald's refusal to be cowed or intimidated by those in authority.

Not so good

This was not a good book and the author is one of my favorites. The h was weak, the H spoke to her cruelly and she still fell in bed with him. I wanted the H to have more interaction with his son. The plot was him to find out about his son and he became irrelevant to the plot. Very disappointed with the characters.
