Do they call menopause "the change" because... With hot flashes, mood swings, and night sweats (oh, my!), menopause might not be your favorite phase of life. However, bestselling author Joanne Kimes is here to provide relief as welcome as hand-held fans and sweat-free sheets. In her signature, no-holds-barred style, Kimes dishes Menopause brings about a whirlwind of emotional and physical transformations. I used to write for TV but when I became pregnant, I couldn't believe there wasn't a book out there that delved into the true perils of procreation. So I wrote "Pregnancy Sucks", sent it out to a handful of publishers and, at the lowest point in any woman's year, when trying on bathing suits at the mall, I got a call that it was going to be published! It became a best-seller and led to a dozen other books in the "Sucks" series, and an appearance on the Today show. I just released my first fiction book, "Finding Paris: A Novel" which is like going to the city of light from your coziest chair. I hope you enjoy it! Merci beaucoup.
Excellent. This book offers a light-hearted look into all that you want and need to know about menopause. Easy to understand and a joy to read...and helps make menopause a lot gentler when one understand the changes happening to one's body at this point of time.
I gotta give this a grudging 4 stars. The beginning was just outstanding! But it began to bog down for me when authors began harping (yes, just like a couple of mythological harpies) on the crucial importance of seeing your Dr. For regular check-ups and screenings. My Dr. doesn't even remember my name from one visit to the next and he doesn't bother reading the notes in my chart so I ONLY see my Dr. when I am too ill to function!
Maybe if your Dr. was your high school boyfriend, next door neighbor or a dutch uncle who served in the military with a family member they would know you well enough to care about your health and well being. If not, you're probably like me - just another unit on a long assembly line, waiting to be inspected and given an "all clear."
This made me drop my rating because in our society today, "consult your physician" has become a form of hyperbole. You hear it so loud and so often, you learn to tune it out. I live by the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" It served my ancestors well and I expect no less for myself.
If the preaching about Drs. and check-ups and regularly scheduled screenings could be somehow edited out, this would be a very enjoyable 5 star read!!!
Whoever wrote that when you download a book to your Kindle, you don't finish it in a timely manner was absolutely correct! So far in the nearly a year that I've had my Kindle, I have only quickly read through the books that my book group was reading. The rest have all languished on the Kindle, waiting for someday. But I did like this book, it combines humor, as you can tell from the title, with facts about "the change" which should help you feel a little better. It helped me!
Menopause remains one of the best kept secrets on the planet. Kimes comes at the topic with plenty of information and a strong dose of humor. Actually the humor was a bit much in places, but it was worth the read. She shares a range of ideas from holistic and herbal remedies to traditional medicine as well as tips to manage the most uncomfortable side effects.
