Though none of the subjects in these limericks grimericks are from Nantucket,
(most of them appear to be from the cemetery)
you'll enjoy spending quality time with these rhymes.
(And eye-balling Grimly's mini-masterpieces, done in the most putrid shades of graveyard-gray and slimy puce.

description
Here is Augustus, waiting for his next meal someone to play with . . .

My favorite?

There are skeleton horses out west
who deliver the mail without rest.
They ride night and day;
I heard someone say
his letter was bony expressed.

That sure tickles my funny bone!

The illustrations are greatly disturbing which is what you expect from Gris Grimly. The grim limericks are okay. Many are really cute. I just wish the book had a better flow.

A very fun book to read when you have a need.
All the lines rhyme and it's a good time
unless you are a scared of being eaten by a bear-d.

Do you have a reluctant reader who loves Halloween and all things scary?!? Then this book is for you! Well, them, technically, but you know what I mean.

Susan Pearson has written 20 grim limericks (hense, the title) to delight younger ghouls and goblins. The rhymes are a bit stretched at times, but fun nonetheless, and will keep children rhyming and giggling for hours. Perhaps they will even encourage children to test out their own writing chops?!

Now, the illustrations by Gris Grimly are a site to behold on there own. Reminiscent of Richard Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas, Grimly's characters come to life (so to speak) with their delishously delightful ghoulishness and humorously off kilter expressions. Check out Grimericks online

Read this during some down time at work this morning and it was a fun and really quick read. Honestly I picked it up because the cover stood out and I loved the Burton-esque illustrations, but the poems were all enjoyable too, particularly the last one.

but she thinks she's the queen,
and she wants to make sure that you know it.'

The drawings are more artistic and clever than the poems themselves, & it is because Gris Grimly’s drawings are so cute, that you forgive the fact that the rhymes seem like a bit of a reach.

Easy spooky rhymes you can use on your spooky friend’s names at parties.

It was quite a cute little book. Perfect for young readers (or non-readers) that like something a little creepy!

"Poor Bettina was forced to witchhike."

I loved this macabre little collection of twenty "grimericks." The grim little limericks were clever but it's the spooky, gently horrific (if there is such a thing) illustrations that really make the book special. Ghouls and goblins and witches and ghosts and all manner of things that go bump in the night are included in the drawings.

I think this is perfect for the age group advertised for - 3rd through 6th grades. It could be a tad spooky and frightening for younger children than that and not scary enough for older children.

A great Hallowe'en read for your wee ghoulie or goblin. The "grimmericks" are clever and funny. Gris Grimly's illustrations are perfection. You may have to explain some of the plays on words, depending on the age of your witchling or beastie.

A fun read that should entertain you as well as your young one.

Instead of limericks, you get "Grimricks"
Susan Pearson does here Halloween poetry with Gris Grimly's gothic illustrations. Can't say I enjoyed all the poems. The first couple of poems were fun and laughter and the rest was just ok I'm getting bored. but my kids enjoyed it

Between the pages of this tome
Are ghouls, and ghosts, and a haunted home.
I'm sure you can't wait,
'Cuz the pictures are great,
But the rhymes might just make you foam.

Grimly's illustrations are very good. Pearson's limericks are bit uneven, but the book is well worth a read around Hallowe'en. My favorite limerick is the last one in the book - Grace.

I got this for the illustrations but also enjoyed the fun ghoulish poems. It appealed to the same part of me that loved Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes as a child.
