Love magic? Somer Archer didn’t believe such a thing existed when her mother handed her and her siblings each one of their grandmother’s rings and told them the rings would help them find their soul mates. As a reporter for the local paper, Somer deals in fact, not fiction. A New York City police officer assigned to rural New Jersey as part of a Homeland Security cross-training initiative, Nick Daultry plans on completing his assignment and getting back to the city as quickly as possible. But when he finds Somer going through his desk at the station, suddenly small-town crime seems awfully interesting. Despite mixing as well as oil and water, Somer and Nick find themselves caught up in the same case. Is it just a reporter’s interest in a story that draws Somer to Nick as well, or is her grandmother’s ring working some magic after all?

Born long ago in a place not so far away, Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Kathryn Quick has been writing since the Sisters in St. Casmir’s Grammar School gave her the ruled yellow paper and a number two pencil. She writes contemporary and career romances, romantic comedies, and historical romances, as well as urban fantasy, sometimes under the name Kathye Quick.

She has been a member of New Jersey Romance Writers and Romance Writers of America since 1990 and considers it an honor to have been NJRW President in 1992 and 2001. She is one of the founding members of Liberty States Fiction Writers, a multi-genre writers’ organizations dedicated to furthering the craft of writing and helping aspiring writers move onto publication.

Kathye originally wanted to be President of the United States or an Organic Chemist, but somehow life got in the way and she got married right out of high school and had a set of twins two years later. The Presidency seemed out of reach and night school to get her Ph.D. to create new molecule that would ultimately result in the betterment of humankind seemed a little time consuming while trying to raise twins, so she decided to write instead.

In her "other" life, Kathye is married to her real-life hero Donald and has three grown sons all having adventures of their own and three “bonus” grandchildren. She is a die-hard New Jersey Devils fan and works for Somerset County government (as close as she could get to the White House) and is plotting a novel about a new molecule that will ultimately result in the betterment of humankind.

The Grandmother's Rings trilogy are three really good romance stories about career- driven people in their thirties who find love in the most unexpected places. The first novel, Amethyst, is about a small town investigative reporter with Pulitzer dreams who mets her destiny in a tough-as-nails NYC detective. Sapphire, the second installment, is about a cop from a small town teaching one from the big city to take a chance on love, despite potential tragedy. The last novel, Citrine, is about a modern-day, "go green" hippie who falls hard and fast for a decorated US Army helicopter pilot.

The great, and unique, thing about these novels are that they are so "clean." Responsible, we'll-adjusted adults choose to abstain from premarital sex, but there is nothing the least bit preachy or condescending about them. There is no huge, time consuming discussion about their choice, and your not slapped in the face constantly with the author's religious views. That happens to be on of my biggest complaints when it comes to clean books. Kathryn Quick makes the storyline roll naturally, and still gives the reader plenty of chemistry.

I would recommend this trilogy to any romance lover. Even if you normally read novels with sex scenes, you won't really miss them with these books; and while they aren't really "Christian"' they are mostly non offensive, in that regard.

Let me say right out the gate that I am rating this according to cheesy quick reads, and not according to all books because it wouldn’t be fair. There was absolutely no depth to this book but it was still a very enjoyable read, one that I started and finished in one sitting. I liked what little story there was, even though it felt kind of amateur, and I will continue with the following two books in this series. It was clean start to finish on all counts; no cussing, no sex, no violence, and in my experience that is hard to find in any book. I would categorize this book as an easy beach read, I know it’s not everyone’s flavor, but for what it is it hit the mark.

Well, oil and water, like cops and journalists, might not mix, but in this combination, they can start a fire!

"Reporters and cops-oil and water. Each one following leads to the exclusion sion of everything else no matter where it takes then. We proved that. I got the story and you found yourself."

"From the day he met her he felt like someone had hit him with a baseball bat. She stood out that day in the office. Not because she was beautiful; she was that and more. But because she had been bold enough to take him on, independent enough to take what he dished out and not bat an eye. Almost from day one he couldn't get her out of his mind, and now he didn't ever want to."

Great story! Lots of fun. Her family is quirky and embarrassing and she has a knack for getting into trouble. He is caring, strong, an only child, and he has the patience of a saint. They are opposites, yet when they collaborate to work together the sparks fly!

This is the first in a series and I enjoyed it so much I'm going to download the next two books!

I stumbled across the book, looking for an author with a "Q" last name, this one called me. This was a sweet little romance, with realistic characters. I enjoyed the fact that it was a "clean" novel.

A must read

I call this book classic romance, the Archer family is hysterical but Somer is funny and badass , Nick might be big city but what he needed was a small town to meet his perfect woman and who knows it could have been due to getting her grandmother's ring.

The gem, amethyst

A quick, easy romance novel concerning the possibility of love at first sight with criminal activity threading throughout. Does this love continue despite circumstances ?

Quick read

Light mind candy with some kissing. Quick-paced plot with brief romance. External conflict provides a common goal. Great beach book.
