The PMS Club

Rate this book
Dixie Nelson arrived in Florida with a mad spell sitting on her shoulders. Her two friends Faith and Jill could flirt with the tanned and gorgeous men on the beaches all they wanted. She wasn't going to do anything but try to get over her anger and enjoy a perfect summer... one with no men allowed in her heart. Not even the good looking T-shirt painter who employed her right after he accused her of shop lifting.

Boone Callahan spent all his summers in Florida, painting and selling T-shirts to the tourists. How was he supposed to know the woman running out of his shop with three tee shirts tucked under her arm wasn't trying to steal them? Or that when he hired her as part-time help she would wind up stealing his heart?

Dixie and her friends, all school teachers from Arkansas, have endured wars and rumors of wars, true PMS, men problems, school problems, and shared the joys and sorrows of life for five years. Nothing could possibly destroy their friendship. But during the wonderfully hot summer, the very roots of the Sisterhood are shaken. Will it survive? Can Dixie and Boone find a future together? Is "happily ever after" a myth or does it really happen?

Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!

Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.

I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.

Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!

I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

Happy reading!

This cute story was about three school teachers from Arkansas that are the best of friends. They are thirty five and all of them are single. They decided to spend their summer vacation in a beach house in Florida. This story explored the deep friendships, love, and learning not to just settle, but go for what will make you happy in life. I loved these fun characters and enjoyed this light read!

This is a 'easy paced" story of three thirty-something, unmarried women who spend a summer vacation at a Florida beach house. They liken themselves to the sisterhood in the movie "Steel Magnolias". Each becomes involved in a summer romance with complications. They support each other through ups and downs and contemplate their futures from the perspective of strong women who are determined to plot their own course through life, not as trophy wives or homebodies but as independent women who follow their own heart and support the other women in their lives. Their self-named PMS Club is not what you might think. A good story, no big drama, normal summer and not the typical romance ending. I enjoyed the book, its humor and the style of writing. This is the second book I have read by this author, selected after enjoying another of her books. More are on my list now.

I enjoyed this Carolyn Brown book.... I got it because the title intrigued me. However, that is not what it stands for. I liked how it described the friendships & also that you don't choose who to love. It is a good summer read... especially since it takes place in the summer & on a beach. As all of her books, this one was just fun! I started it before I had our grandchildren for a week or I would have finished it sooner!

Cute sisterhood story

Light hearted story about a friendship, pms club, the summer, and of course men. A quick read if you need a light romance to fill some time.

Three teachers from Arkansas, Dixie, Faith and Jill, single and in their mid-thirties, leave their hometown behind and head down to the beach in Florida for the summer. A time just for them and no men needed. Yet they all would like some sort of relationship in their lives, and two would like to have children. All love their jobs as teachers. Despite their vows to each other that this will be a no men summer, they all wind up with a man whose character wiggles into their hearts. The best part of the book is reading how each woman comes to terms with her decision that yes, this man is for me. All three women have been hurt in the past by their choices. So can they trust their judgement this time? Loved the book and the characters.

Light-weight story about three thirty-five year old teachers who travel to Pensacola, FL from Arkansas for summer vacation. Lots of weird sentences, didn't make much sense, and mostly unbelievable characters. One has a rich uncle who owns the beach house where they're staying, and conveniently all three meet up with rich men -- varying degrees of "rich". Normally I love a good Carolyn Brown read, but this one just wasn't up to par. All the angst of 20 year old "Does he love me, does he hate me?" nonsense, and in the end you don't find out if any of them become couples! As far as I can tell there is no book #2 for this one. Disappointed.

This was a very good story, but it felt too short. To be honest, I didn't realize I had reached the end of it. I thought my computer had frozen when it wouldn't change to the next page and then I realized it was done. I liked the characters and the plot, but the relationships were left incomplete. Granted, it's probably one of the most honest conclusions to a romance novel, but it was completely unexpected and kind of left it feeling unfinished. All in all, still a good story. I just wanted more.

A perfectly timed read about how it's essential to always be yourself and not let others opinions, decisions and actions or how you feel you should be with them to change who you are. Dixie, Faith and Jill all tried to be someone they aren't and it didn't work for them. For them it was for love/relationships but the same premise works for every angle in life. Always be yourself, no matter what, be who you are.

Anger to love

Dixie found herself in Florida for the summer angry swearing off men. That didn't happen when she ran into the T-shirt store owner when he thought she was trying to shoplift. She ends up working for him and steals his heart away. Dixie and her PMS sisters have a bond that is unbroken and stands the tests of times. Great read and recommend to anyone.

Fun Story

I enjoyed this book, because it explored the differences in the attitudes of men and women in relationships, beginnings and endings. It also went a bit in depth regarding social relationships between women who are very close friends and the men they chose. Another good one, Ms. Brown.

Her-icane

What a trio and what a mess they can create. Three school teachers on a summer vacation find what they couldn't in a classroom. If the school children could only imagine the havoc created when the ladies try to avoid love and school life on the panhandlers of Florida. Another chick flick in the making. Fun read for the beach!

Good beach read

Not overly deep or thought-provoking, but I really liked the characters and their devotion to each other. Sweet beach read that kept my interest without being overly 'sappy' or graphic.

A cute and enjoyable story about 3 teachers (and friends) that go away to Florida for summer vacation. A very quick read. Over the five years of their friendship they have started a club called The PMS club but you will have to read the book to find out what that means (it's not what you think)

Did the memories hold?

This was a cute book. While the main focus was on Dixie, we do learn about Jill and Faith. There are many mentions of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. This book is like a younger version of that one.

Girlfriends Forever

I like the friendship the 3 women shared and the honesty with which they faced their love lives and supported each other. The men in their lives were worth pursuing and seemed to make promising happily ever afters for all.

Disappointing

This just did not feel like Carolyn Brown material. I have read so many of her books which I throughly enjoyed and this one was a big disjointed wordy mess. I hope this was just a fluke.

The true story of friendship

I loved the realistic version of true friends. Through love, heartbreak and any differences in lifestyles, true friendships not only survive but get stronger. I just love Carolyn Brown's books.

I love Carolyn Brown but this was not her best work. It was from 2006 so hopefully her beginning because she has gotten wonderful since this book. This one was too predictable and puffy. Took me forever to read this and it was only 200 pages.

A great story!

Loved this one, but I was almost disappointed with the ending, it was almost too unfinished! The storyline was awesome and I will just have to imagine that they all got their happy ending.
