Barry Napier was the winner of the Write A Dead Man novel contest.

Here Matt Cahill comes to the small town of Steeple with a feeling some sort of evil overrode everything. He'd been having dreams of five young girls playing together, dressed in old fashioned clothes. What it meant he had no idea.

He takes a job at an assisted living facility and meets the old woman who'd financed the whole thing. One entire floor was to be for the use of three childhood friends that had reached advanced years.

It set Matt to thinking.

There was evil here. He didn't see the rotting flesh anywhere that was a hallmark of his nemesis, Mr. Dark, that only he could see since his rebirth from a frozen death after three months.

Four old women. Who and where was the fifth?

People were dying when Mr, Dark puts in his appearance, his usual swagger and arrogance there. It's left up to Matt to destroy two evils this time around.

A winner.

If Streets of blood is not the best of the Dead Man series it is definitely in the top three. This one is actually scary. The story is set in a small town in Virginia that Matt drifts through. It all starts when he gets a job at an assisted living home. There are some genuinely scary moments in this one that I think any Dead Man fan will love. In fact, I can't remember any of them being scary before.

The thing I like best about this installment is the fact that it doesn't feel like the same old same old. I love the Dead Man series but to be honest the last few have felt just like they are running together. Don't get me wrong, this one goes by the same formula there isn't anything different about it but somehow it doesn't feel stale and repetitive.

Streets of Blood is why I read this series. Chapters this good are few and far between but you never know when the next one is going to be. It has been a while.

Barry Napier should write the rest of the series!!!

A clever story idea results in mutilation of the character. Almost good.

An above average entry in the series, with a decent plot, some good action and amusing one liners.

Better than the last couple; it's tighter and has more narrative drive.
