Amanda Creole Hawk has been in a terrible automobile accident which has left her sightless for six weeks. After she goes through five caretakers in as many days, her father hires a Mr. Parker to take care of her and tells her that he will be the last. The sparks fly between Creole and Mr. Parker from the first minute they’re in each other’s company. During the five weeks they spend together, both of their hearts fail to get the message that they have been determined not to like each other.
Then, Mr. Parker disappears on the very day that Creole gets her bandages removed and she finds her heart has been broken. But John Rollin Parker grew up with the headstrong Creole and he knows that she could never care about him, especially if Creole ever found out who he really was. Will he ever give in to his own heart and let her know?
Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!
Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.
I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.
I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.
Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!
I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.
Heart warming gut wrenching story. This book was a very easy read for me. It's a story of love and how two people destined to hate each other were also destined to love each other. Another great story by Carolyn Brown.
Sweet romance. Typical story arc: two people who think they hate each other are actually perfect together and get married to live happy ever after. Great for when you just want something pleasant and soothing to read.
The first romance book that I ever read, and to this day 12 years later, one of my favorite books of all time, no matter hwo many times I read it, I never get bored with this story and the characters.
Love the way carolyn Brown writes with enough humor and typical Oklahoma traits and always a happy ending. I was born and raised in Oklahoma so I love her books and wish she would write more
They fought as kids and hated each other because they were jealous of each other. Creole is a spoiled young lady with an attitude and was temporarily blinded in a wreck. After she drove off 5 caretakers in 5 days, Parker volunteered for the job using her as love research for his thesis. They fell in love but Parker left without her seeing him the day her bandages were removed. She didn't know PArker was her nemesis until he came back to spend Thanksgiving with his dad the ranch foreman and her father's best friend. They take a walk and cleared the air. On Christmas he proposed and she accepted and a week later at New Years they were married on the ranch.
not safe hero had feelings for heroine but he called his friend with benefits for... (you know what), ... but couldnt be with her... she kissed him , he didnt fight that kiss...
his friend with benefits actually called him and proposition to him to marriage... (?? Hello??)), she called another time to tell him she was about to buy a ring with another man, he still had time... what a stupid friend with benefits...
Heroine was a stupid cow till 50%, suddenly she is good person, a hard worker.. I didnt trust her story.
It’s a short read as I read it in a day but it was also very engaging and it definitely made me smile throughout! The description of Love at the very end touched my heart when Creole explained to Parker that if he died first she would tell him to slow down because she wouldn’t be far behind. The story shows that you can find true love in the oddest of places. Thanks again, Carolyn Brown, you are certainly my favorite author.
This book was wonderful. Carolyn Brown takes the art of storytelling and weaves a wonderful journey for her readers. These are the kinds of characters who will stick with you long after the last page is turned. Parker and Creole have an epic romance. I even love man's best friends perspective.
Creole is blinded temporarily in an accident, which doesn't improve her spoiled, petulant personality.
At least not through the first four caregivers. Her Dad finally gives up and hired Parker, a long time family friend, that she has always abhorred. He puts up with no nonsense, but are the sparks going to fly when she figures out who took care of het.
A fabulous story it starts with two chubby kids who hate each other. Creole has a serious traffic accident and suffers temporary blindness. Her father loves her but her temper when he brings people in to help and she sacks all of them he has to be clever and sort his and her problems. Fabulous
Creole has bandages on her eyes from the accident and is in need of a caretaker Gor did weeks. When Mr Parker enters her bedroom she wants him fired immediately. Over the next six weeks Creole learns to appreciate her other senses and falls in love. Mr Parker also is in love.
This is a very short book. The story begins with a young, high strung, young girl that is recovering from an accident. She has her eyes covered with gause so that her eyes will heal. A young man is determined to care for her. Through the seamingly endless healing process change occurs between the two young people. Even though the story is predictable, the ending is sweet.
Every Carolyn Brown book I've read has become an instant favorite. Ms. Brown has such a good touch with human emotions, that I can easily feel what her characters are feeling. I highly recommend this writer!
People are so oblivious to life. Thank goodness their hearts know what is best. Glad the author had the story end right. Instead of some rediculous new world way.. A good story.
A lovely feel good evening of pure enjoyment. Carolyn Brown at her best. Loved the way she weaved her tail of Love through the conflict of healing new and old wounds.
Oh this couple had me spitting feathers at times with their stubborn streaks. But who couldn't love them. I'm loving their story and I never let on to the story you have to read it yourself. But I will say you will love it. Thank you Carolyn hugs xx
They grew up and together became adults who fell in love . That their mothers grew up too was the bonus. Those moms needed to leave their bitterness behind for a gift to their children.
Creole was made blind by a car accident. No one could handle her, or live with her. Finally her father allowed Parker to assist in her care. It worked well. Parker was writing his thesis. What God has joined together let no man put asunder.....
Love the happy endings, this was a sweet love story that seemed the natural outcome of two who loved ranching, even though both their parents suffered a divorce over ranch living.
I truly love a Carolyn Brown story and this one lived up to expectations. Even though the characters had known each other from childhood, their reunion was under unusual circumstances, leading to a lasting love.
I was very glad that I chose this book it was a sure page turner.I laugh I cried.I recommend this book to my friend. I have read other books buy this author and have recommended them all.thanks❤❤
This story just makes your heart feel good. The characters growth and development through the story to the very end keeps you wanting to know what is on the next page.
I chose this rating because it was a good book. I read it and couldn't put it down. It just goes to show that you may like the boy next door if you give him a chance when he grows up.
What a beautifully written book. I fell in love with all the characters right away. The love they found and felt for each other was just beautiful. Definitely a curl up in an overstuffed chair or couch with warm cocoa rainy day read.
Creole & Parker had a long standing dislike or at least it seemed that way. Sometimes things aren't what they seem. Love is...what happens when you least expect it.
