When you're born wrong, sometimes you get bent and you get f*cked. Sometimes your life takes you places you don't want to go.

Sometimes, it does.

Dax McCann is as cold as ice.
I'm intrigued by him.
But I can't get close to him either.
His music strokes my soul, butchers my broken heart.
I wish he'd see me, but he only sees her. It's been so long since I've had to care that I'm not sure I can do it anymore. Now, tell me, why is there a gun to my head?

& & &

Sydney Charell is … interesting.
I want to touch her, kiss her, posses her.
But I don't understand her.
She dances on poles and can't carry a tune to save her life.
I feel like an outsider on the in, but I have too many secrets to hide. Naomi Knox has my heart, but I think I might need it back. I want a chance to use it before it breaks. Or splatters. Blood will be spilled; I just hope it isn't mine.

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn't mind - especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she's not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She's the author of over thirty novels - romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There's a heck of a lot to do there.

First of all, I would like to say that I enjoyed previous books in Hard Rock Roots series a lot. I LOVE Naomi's & Turner's story (they are my favorite rockstar couple) and I recommend their books to all those who love dark suspenseful stories with the edge.

However, Dax's story in this novel did not grab my attention at all. I never liked him as side character and it didn't change by him being a "hero" and a narrator. Plus I found myself skimming a lot when reading this book. And that is always a bad sign. I am really glad that we are back to Turner Campbell's POV in the next instalment!

I'm sure Born Wrong will have plenty of fans among C.M. Stunich's readers. Unfortunatelly, this story wasn't for me.

"Most people come into the world innocent, but I was born bathed in blood, drenched in my father's hate, and thrust into a life I've never felt comfortable living. Born to Bleed. That's me baby."

description

I liked this book much more than I had expected. I wasn’t a fan of the mystery portion of this series but it’s gotten under my skin and C.M. Stunich delivered some pretty clever and believable secrets that were revealed in this book.

I wasn’t so hyped to read Dax’s story because he comes across pretty pathetic and emo boyish. The plot is progressing on a fast pace and all of my favs were in this one book.

”Dax, Sydney. Sydney, Dax,” Turner says, gesturing loosely at us both. “Sydney’s a stripper with fake tits, and the only reason I’m putting up with her is because she’s Trey’s sister. Dax is a little bitch that probably masturbates to The Smashing Pumpkins or some shit like that.” Turner snaps his fingers. “Oh yeah, and I think he plays the drums or whatever.”

Seriously, I just love Turner!

Dax believes that he is still in love with Naomi and thinks he may have a slim shot… HAHAHA

”Turner wants Naomi, and he won’t stop until he’s sure she’s his forever. Dax doesn’t stand a chance. That boy was born to love one woman. Sleep with thousand maybe, but love one. Ronnie might be getting a second chance with Lola, but there are no second chances for Turner Campbell. He’s just that unstable.”

Dax has immediate physical reaction to Trey’s sister, Sydney, every time he’s near her...

description

Sydney helps Dax handle some family stuff that the crazy man behind all this death and chaos unleashes on him. While Dax struggles with his feelings for Naomi he seems to have fallen for the stripper with the heart. (P.S. the interviewers questions about him being gay were hilarious!)

Just like all the other books in this series, this one ends with a SHOCKING cliffhanger. I’m super excited for the next book in this series because Turner has something pretty exciting up his sleeve!

C.M. Stunich, I love your fucking face! I honestly didn't think this series could get much better, but you just keep proving me wrong with every book.

I really didn't know how I would feel about Dax ... He loves Naomi & hates Turner. How can anyone hate Tuner? I LOVE Turner fucking Campbell! But now I love Dax McCann too. And please do not get me started on Sydney. I am in lesbians with her ... Hardcore!

I won't complain about the major cliffhanger. I'm totally expecting it at this point in the series. This one was awesome! I definitely want more from Dax & Sydney because their story is far from over & they are amazing characters.

Give me more!♥

3.5 - 4.0 WRONG STARS!

I have spent the past 72 hours immersed into C.M. Stunich's gritty world of Rock and damn if I didn't get another cliffhanger! UGH, June cannot come soon enough!

I will say that Dax McCann is not my cup of tea...He seems to have his own life drama and a lot of connections to the macabre shit going on with the tour, but for me, I will say his story was just meh'.

He is the "Emo" guy...you know? He may be in love with Naomi with but he is no Turner Campbell! Perhaps I am drawn to the cocky arrogance and complete idiocy that goes with Turner's actions, so Dax is just a background player for me. I felt his tale was just a pit stop on the tour to buy time.

This is also where we are now introduced to Ms Sydney Charell...

She is Trey's trailer court sister, stripper extraordinaire, and honestly a somewhat decent gal with some serious smarts! WTH is she even doing in this mix of cray-cray? She is basically a hot chick resembling Naomi who might just give Dax a ride and a fresh start. This read is filled with Turner and Dax bickering, Naomi bouncing with guilt, and some crazy psycho opening everyone's closes filled with ugly skeletons...Sydney is a breath of fresh air that doesn't quite fit the tale only to cause teenage hormone reactions out of one lonely drummer!

Dax cannot even get in the same room with this chick without a major raging boner...however, unlike the previous books, the horizontal actions are pretty limited! I was starting to think that Turner was right and maybe DAX liked penis...I mean come on, Sydney is rocking hot and she wants you...take her! Who knows where these two will end up! I will say that they have a much more open communicative relationship and a more emotional connection, but I want the raw grit back!

Oh well...it seems as if I will have to sit back and wait for my Turner Campbell and Naomi Knox time to come.

Born Wrong is the fifth entry into the Hard Rock Roots series by Ms. Stunich. And while I loved the book, I have to say that it's everything I love about Stunich's awesome rock star romances, and a little bit less. Literally. At 166 print pages, this book is about 120 pages shorter than the other entries in this series. I hadn't realized this when I bought it and, while as a frustrated writer myself I don't begrudge paying for books, I felt a little cheated in that this book seems more like a novella than a complete book. But that's not the only problem I had.

The good stuff first. Everyone is here. Naomi Knox, Turner motherfucking Campbell, Ronnie, Lola, Milo, Hayden, Trey... Indecency and Amatory Riot are both here in all their rock star glory. This includes Amatory's drummer, Dax, and Trey's sister Sydney; these are our protagonists, for the most part. There's a bit less drugging in this book, and a lot less actual rock and roll, and certainly a lot less sex than I'm used to in these books, but I chalk that up to two things:

The short length - there just wasn't time

The telling of Dax's backstory - a totally worthwhile distraction from steamy, sweaty rocker sex

Dax is a pretty typical drummer. As long as he's got his sticks and his beats, he's okay. He works his shit out on his kit. Of course, he also thinks he's in love with Naomi Knox, who is firmly entrenched in Turner Campbell's heart (and bed) and Dax knows he's got a snowball's chance in hell at being with the girl. But, he nurses his love, nurtures it, feeds it on dreams and fantasies, and keeps it alive, as if loving Naomi is what gives him a reason to keep on keeping on. But is that really love?

We found out in this installment that Dax has a bit of a hero complex, and that in addition to feeling the need to save people, he tends to feel responsible for every bad thing that happens. To anyone. Ever. Really. The guy eats guilt for breakfast.

Sydney is a stripper, and Trey's slightly older sister. She's known the guys in Indecency since they were all horny teenagers dreaming of making it big. She's got an opportunity coming up that will get her off the pole and into a more legit career, when she's summoned to Trey's bedside after he's been shot.

Dax and Sydney meet and there's an instant pull between them. Stunich makes you feel it. It's amazing what that woman can do with words. Anyway, long story short, the chemistry between Sydney and Dax pulls them in new directions and they are practically helpless against it; Dax may finally understand what Naomi means when she says "I want fire, Dax... I want flame. I want to be engulfed and burned alive." Because Dax and Sydney are flaming hot for one another and fighting it every step of the way, which just makes the attraction burn all the brighter.

We see a bit of advance in the other romances in the series; Turner and Naomi are progressing, as are Ronnie and Lola, and the stories involved in the overarching conflict are advanced a bit.

The few sex scenes are smokin', and we get a view of Dax as a man, rather than as an "emo bitch" (as Turner calls him) when he's with Sydney. There may not be a lot of sex, but it's as incendiary as ever. The scene towards the end, in the strip club? Girls, really; get out your fans and dry panties, cause you're gonna need 'em.

So, why am I not as unreservedly gushy over this book as I am over pretty much everything else? Well, it feels rushed. It almost feels like Stunich felt pressured to put out a book to placate the HRR fans until she had time to sit down and do more. This book was totally and completely up to Stunich's usual standards, the story is a good one, and I don't want anyone to think I didn't enjoy the hell out of it for a few hours, because I did, but I also want to make it clear that you are going to get this book, read this book, enjoy this book, and then be really, really disappointed when it's over so quickly. There are some things left open that could have been resolved in this book rather than waiting for the next one, I think. And I wish I knew why this book is almost half as long as the others in the group. I would also like to add this:

I was reading. I was loving the story, grooving on the whole thing, falling a little in love with Dax while maintaining my love for Turner and Ronnie as well. I was digging the story of Dax and his problems before he came to Amatory Riot and just when it gets reallllllllllllllly good, and something absolutely astounding has happened, I turn the page and....

NOTHING! The. Fucking. End.

What? What the hell just happened? Why is my book over already? I don't get it!!!! I go back and forth a few pages, consult the table of contents, and.... nope. Over. The book. Is fucking. Over.

Now, I like a good cliffhanger. Hell, I'm a soap opera fan, I FLOVE a good cliffhanger. And I am not against an author doing something daring and shocking to help tell his or her story. But, um... this is NOT a cliffhanger! This is an abrupt stop. It's a red light in the middle of a damn drag race. It's the equivalent of throwing on the emergency brake while you're doing 125 down the highway!

It just sort of diminished things for me a bit. What can I say, I like gratification, right? Disappointment is not the same as gratification. Trust me on this.

So, if you're a fan of the HRR series, buy this book. If you've never read HRR, well, recognize that this is the second book in that series that I've reviewed, while recommending the rest, and then start reading. Totally worth it. Stunich is, as I've said, so different in her writing than so many others and I think that her voice should be heard because it shouts to be and deserves to be. Open that first story and prepare yourself for that overwhelming desire to quit your day job, get a tattoo and a leather jacket, and find your very own rock star to love and have insanely hot sex with. But when you get to this last story, prepare yourself to be just a little bit let down.

Bottom line, I loved, loved, loved this story right up until I kind of wanted to punch it in the nuts. But I got over it. Mostly. And I have the consolation of knowing that Stunich plans more books in the series and that I'll get the gratification I crave. Because I know that Stunich, just like any romance author, is going for the HEA. Hers may not look like Danielle Steele's or Barbara Cartland's HEAs, but we're gonna get the whole thing eventually.

I hope.

I think.

I'm pretty sure....

I like Dax, but I'm getting tired of the internal monologues. It's like each book is a long conversation between the main characters and their thoughts. I sometimes skip paragraphs and just read the dialogue between characters, because the story is so weighed down by repetitive thoughts and self pity.

Of course, there is a cliffhanger. I just wish the suspense of the story drove the series rather than dragged out monologues ending in a huge cliffhanger that forces you to buy the next book because you've invested so much time and money already just trying to get one or two more details that "hopefully and maybe this time" the next book will bring you closer to finding out what the hell is going on. It's like that boyfriend you know you need to dump but you just can't because all of the energy and emotion you invested will seem like it was all for nothing. Except these books don't even evoke emotion from me anymore.

I'm torn. I'm so bored with the story now that I keep putting it down. I just want the cliff notes abbreviated version of the rest of the books in the series. I want to find out the point of all of this, but I'm almost angry at having to keep buying these books and wading through internal musings, only to barely move two steps forward and then be met with yet another outrageous cliffhanger.

Another fabulous read by C.M. Stunich. But, I couldn’t help to rate it only 4 stars. It just seemed too short. I wanted more of Dax and Sydney together as a couple. They really didn’t get together until about the middle of the book. They just seemed to be lusting after each other with no go-to-and-get. I’m glad, though, that Dax was attracted to someone other than Naomi! Sydney knew that there was some sort of story between the two; what it was, she was not exactly certain. Could Dax and Sydney possibly end up together is the ultimate question? And, when it comes to Naomi, how many times must Dax get rejected from the same girl time and time again? Let’s face it, Turner is “it” for Naomi! I so much liked how I got to see Dax portrayed in this installment. He was cute! Not just an “emo bitch”. He was kind and caring and given a bad rap by his family. When he finally comes face-to-face with his parents after a long time coming, the truth as to what really went down finally comes out. How does Dax deal with this? And, does Sydney help him along the way?

“I don’t like stories; I like endings. Endings tell you what happen, sum up the drama, finish the pain. Stories, well stories just keep on keepin’ on. I don’t want a chapter in a partially written book.” ~ Sydney (Chap. 4)

And, it wouldn’t be a C.M. Stunich hot rocker book without Turner “f**king” Campbell mixed in. As usual he’s cocky and arrogant with that vulgar potty mouth that makes me histerically laugh-out-loud. The guy’s got some colorful antics that just adds some crazy shit to the story. Still the rockband is in danger of some heavy-duty sludge going down with its members. Hopefully, now as they work with Brayden Ryker, their newest bodyguard, he will be able to keep them safe. This series just keeps getting better and better. More explosive! More drama! More lovin’! I get so excited when a secret has been revealed that I wasn’t expecting! Keeps me totally entertained...

The sexual heat is, of course, off-the-charts and Dax and Sydney’s romps do not disappoint. One thing I can say about Ms. Stunich’s written sexual trysts, is that no two are the same. Nothing is boring or redundant. Her writing is very authentic and imaginative, which has me wondering just how much more can she further captivate her readers as the series gets closer to the end.

All I can say is that I will further await another “Hard Rock Roots” book and download it like gangbusters when it’s available! Awesome series!!!

I'm sooooooo fucking pissed off right now. Stunich really needs to stop giving us irrelevant filler stories and just get to the fucking point already. I really didn't want to read about Dax or Treyjan's sister, Sydney. No. But I must confess, I actually enjoyed this book a little. I liked this one a lot better than Tough Luck.

As we all know, Dax is the little emo bitch. So he is all... Bleh. Whatever. He is quite deep and I actually felt sorry for him, but I still didn't want to read an entire book about him. But, however, Sydney is a whole new different story. I actually loved her. She was an refreshing addition to this series.

Sydney Charell is so sarcastic that I actually found her adorably funny.

"If you are going to kill someone," I say, using humor to lighten the mood. "Make it to be Turner."

And she is so bloody clueless!

I look between him and Turner, to Milo, to Jesse, to the bassist kid, Josh. Wow, this goes deep doesn't it? I sigh and shake my head, sucking in a deep breath and try to remember what my yoga instructor told me.

And she is so cute!

I relax and bend over, trying to stretch out the said region. And I don't even give a fuck if anybody's staring at me. Sometimes, you just gotta be the weird one.

I'm really hoping that in the next book Turner and Naomi fucking get married and I'm also hoping that there won't be anymore books that will be in anyone else's POV but Turner and Naomi's. I honestly don't want to know shit about anyone else. I seriously think Stunich needs to stop digging into everyone's background and adding more shit into the already persisting clusterfuck, because this series is starting to get way too dramatic and unrealistic for my liking.

This contains ***SPOILERS***

Getting fed up with the cliff hangers. How far can this really drag on?? The first few books were good. But now it's just getting so crazy that it's not even fun to read anymore. I feel like this book was a filler of sorts, no real new info or drama.

This is all you really need to know....

Hayden has a daughter. That's why Dax is so tolerant of her behavior. Says she has no choice to be in this mess.
Lola's sister was involved at her own doing. They didn't have her against her will.
Dax's dad isn't his real dad.
Hayden blows her head off because Dax doesn't love her.

The End.

3.5.

I wasn't too keen on Dax during the series thus far. So I wasn't to hyped going into this book. I was actually surprised that I liked the flow of this compared to the previous ones. Not too much murder mystery drama and even though I wanted to kick Dax in the nuts for pining for Naomi when he clearly was love stuck by Sydney, I felt they came together easier. The ending cliffhanger was overall a better ending than the complete wtf? ones we usually get.

Going to take a break before the next one, too much drama for now.

I feel like a broken record. With each book in this series I read, I feel like I'm repeating the same thing over and over and over. But there's just not that much else I can say. This is a series I really thought I was gonna dislike, because the world is so far from my world and interests and the characters are everything I aspire NOT to be in life. And yet, the series works.

This book is once more focussing on different characters: Dax and Sydney. I had already grown quite attached to Dax in the previous books. From all the characters, he's the one who'd fit in my world the best. He's not a showman, not someone who likes to be front and center and he's incredibly loyal. It was nice to be in his head, to see what has happened to him and what secret he is hiding from the world.

I still have the impression we don't know Sydney that well. We've read about her feelings and longings and dreams for the future, but we don't know that much about her past. I'm however sure we will learn more about her in future books, since the story is so very far from over. What I love about her though was her will to get somewhere and to go for what she wanted. I can't wait to get to know her better.

I have the feeling that the plot is stagnating a little. Most of the recent books were about the relationships and characters and their corpses in the closet, as we say it. And then in the end something shocking happens, leaving us with this huge cliffhanger. This book followed that exact pattern, but I still don't mind. I'm here for the characters, their emotions and relationships anyway.

I will read the shorts in the back of the boxset and then I'll move on to the next book! Can't wait!

What?? That was so not what I was expecting, and all of these damn cliffhanger endings, UGH! I just wish there was an end in sight, I'm not sure how I feel about a series the author doesn't even know where it is going. I have to say though, before this book I wasn't a huge fan of Dax...and I have definitely had a change of heart. I love Sydney, what's not to love, she is "a stripper with a heart of gold". The ending felt rushed and I feel kind of cheated by the arc of this story. I love the series, I just feel like I didn't get everything I was hoping for from this one.

Well if you like the cliffhangers then CM Stunich's Hard Rock Roots are for you. I myself love the cliffhangers. This was Dax "Born Wrong" McCann's book. Was never really a fan of his up until this book. There is so much more to him beside his emo bitch self. I loved Sydney for him. All her confidence really helps Dax realize that he is so much more. I hope we get to see more of their story because I kind of felt like it was cut off too soon. And helloooo, what the fuck Hayden!!!!! Whaaaat?? Did not see that coming.
So ready for another book!!!

This series is so addicting!!!!! The ending, never expected that but not losing any sleep over it either ;)

These people are nuts!!! They have no remorse for the dead and have zero empathy. But the story is a one of a kind!! There is nothing else out there that comes close to this series! And that makes it kick a**!!

And who would have that Dax was a hottie?!?!?

As always can't wait for the next!!!

Well that was a slow burn with a big old explosion at the end. Dax struggles through his love for one while this undeniable attraction to another is electric. And Sydney is such a refreshing add to the mix of characters. When first meeting her, Turner made her out to be the trailer trash stripper sister, but she has more empathy and understanding than anyone .... No judgements and just pure of heart, with a healthy sexual confidence (occupation hazzard). The interesting part was that all that tension built through the story until finally. .... A slow burn....And then this tragedy...fuck me! What a double edged sword. Now she's free. That's a good thing but now the psycho ho is up and made a mess of things. Bad enough it happened, but watching it must be just as scarring ... Wham, those last few pages just explode!

Still don't have the full story on why this is all happening. Yeah I get the grudging family with an axe to grind... But there's something more to this. There has to be...the body count of innocents is too high.

On to the short stories cause this shi t just got real whacky

I also love that the overall story is told in multiple POVs giving different couples time to shine. I think that might also be one of the things that make this series so interesting.

You see, I got addicted pretty fast to this group of people, got so attached to certain characters, that I had no choice but read all 9 books within two weeks 🙈 What a ride that was!

If you are up for a romantic suspense ride with s*x, dr*gs and rockstars, if you want as many lovable characters as there are those you'll hate, if you want emotionally raw characters with as much darkness as well as light, this series is definitely something you don't want to miss!

And yes, you need to read all of them, if you want all the answers. And you should definitely read them in order.... Within all the trouble that the two bands got dragged into, there are three couples that find their love and whose stories are told along the suspense plot.

I'm going to be honest I'm bias, I love Naomi soooo much that watching Dax fall out of love with her so quickly was baffling to me. I will say I liked Sydney better than Lola at least. I also enjoyed seeing Naomi and Hayden through Dax's eyes. The writing was beautiful and the story flowed easily for me. I hate that we got rid of Hayden and now America has apparently turned into a psycho though, I don't really understand how she goes from victim to Ill hunt you down and kill you, so there's that.

Dax might be the only character I actually like in this mess of a series. He is deeper than he shows, feels more, actually cares and is not as messed up in his head as others. An innocent bystander in it all. However, as usual, this book is not about Dax and Sylvia. It is just from their point of view. The story is still messy, more so as it progresses. Author better comes up with a really great solution of the clusterfuck she created or the whole story will wilt.

Is it worth reading? If you have gotten so far in these series, it can't hurt but that's about it.

Oh what the hell!! Another one with an abrupt cliffy. A huge cliffy. As much as I want to know what happens I don’t know if I can keep going with this series. I need some kind of closure dammit, to at least one issue or something. But 5 books in with no answers, just more crap added on..... I think I have to get off this crazy train for a bit. Maybe I’ll continue later. I don’t know. I’m kinda aggravated with the whole thing right now.

Holy. Fuck.
Okay - that was nuts.
We actually learned some stuff and got somewhere. Well, at least a little.
I'm so glad that hoe is gone though and that Dax is finding something with someone else.
He deserves to be happy.
This book was a wild ride though.
I really enjoyed this story.
Still no HEA and still no resolution on anything really - we got somewhere but not really enough.
Hopefully we get something soon.

So it was a cliff hanger but I would be disappointed if there wasn't! This series is twisted and dark, interspersed with humour and gets the pages turning. Not to give anything away but I was loudly (ask hubby) gleeful that the wicked witch had gone ding dong!
Nice to read about Dax and learn his secrets and uncover a little more of the mystery being dangled.

DAX AND SYDNEY

Dax has found someone to love. I just hope he recognizes it. Sydney is perfect for him maybe she can alleviate some of the misplaced guilt Dax carries around. Hayden is gone and you know what, I'm glad.

My shortest review ever, but I’m too deep in the series to care & to be honest so Fing glad to see Hayden dead! I bloody love CM Stunich’s work & Turner ....! Campbell (read the book, you’ll get it😉) I love this series!

I have a love-hate relationship with C.M. Stunich

Seriously??????????????
No I don't love cliff hangers but thank you for the very end of this book. Waiting for the filth to be gone. On I go to the next installment.
