When April's boyfriend, Kyle breaks up with her she is heart broken. She can't seem to get over him, but when her best friend's brother poses as her boyfriend at a party to make Kyle jealous and it works, she hatches the perfect plan or so she thinks...Sometimes pretending isn't the best game to play especially when pretending can become real and especially when you're pretending with your best friend's brother.
I’m an avid reader, professional daydreamer, and chocolate addict. When life gets too much, I escape to the safety of my laptop and type away for hours. My characters are my friends, and my family are cool, too...I guess. Writing is my passion, and I love my readers. If you want to know what the voices in my head are talking about then pick up one of my books and find out. I will warn you that some of my stories will cause you to ugly cry but if you can get through that then you’ll make it through to the happily-ever-after that you’ll need.
But then, when all the drama (and believe me, there's A WHOLE WORLD OF IT) started I was LIKE THIS P.S.Yeah, I was happy.
I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
Anywho, let's start this review with... Aiden.
What else can I possibly say? Nothing. At all... Just kidding! Well Aiden was so sweet with April, I really loved him for what he did. I'm just not a fan of how cocky he is... But whatever, the boy is HAWT.
Next in line is April.
I think that this girl's main objective was to make me want to throttle her. I've never seen a more stupid, insecure, indecisive female character before. And I've read A LOT,people. The only thing I liked about her was how she treated Rachel. After the girl humiliatted her a thousand times. But still, she did something. At last.
Speaking of Rachel, that brings me to Kyle, April's ass of an ex-boyfriend.
I hate when the female characters acts like it's okay to forgive everything that their ex-boyfriends did to them. They moved on, so that doesn't matter anymore :)
YOU'RE WRONG.WAY WRONG. He deserves to SUFFER for what he did to you.To April.
I'm not saying that what he got is what he deserved, but you know, what goes around comes around. Jerk.
Well, I really liked this book. I still don't know if it's because it wasn't anything like what I expected or because of how much the plot kept on surprising me. Time after time.
If you want drama, romance and hot guys this is your book!
P.S. I can't wait for the next book of the Pretend series!!!
Well, first the title and the brief summary was interesting. But after the first couple of chapters this book drove me crazy! Errors, grammer mistakes all over the place and who talks like these teenagers? I have teenagers and they DO NOT act or talk like these characters. I think her main idea was great but TOO much detail to things we dont want to know about.(going to the toilet, ect) I think she tried to put too much information, words, and detail in this book. It needs to be rewritten, please!!!
This book wasn't all bad but a few things just really annoyed me. 1. Overuse of the word 'whilst'. No teenager I've ever met uses this word. It just became overkill when every time a simple 'while' would have worked. 2. What was the point of half of this drama? The book would have been better off without it. I'm still trying to figure out how the was relevant to the plot. ...and Jake, was he necessary? Probably not. 3. The Beiber and Twilight love made me nauseous. 4. The book dragged on. I just wanted it to be over half the time. 5. Overly-descriptive. There's a fine line between vague and too much detail. I don't need to know step by step how she washed her face and got ready in the morning. 6. Too many grammatical and spelling errors to be excusable. It was all over the place. Ruins a good book when I have to figure out what they meant to say instead of continuing on with it.
Other than that (which is really only a small portion of crap that annoyed me.) this book had potential.
However, the twists & turns were way too over-the-top dramatic in Pretend. That's not good, since I usually love drama. Additionally, Aiden & April's "romance" superficial; it should have been developed further.
And, why did April feel the need to hide her feelings/ relationship from her best friend, Crystal? It was so unnecessary; the whole "issue" was so petty, and silly. Then, the barrage of characters that were introduced was confusing (I'd rather the author focused only on a few main characters).
Also, the perpetual *drama* (which were all mostly PETTY), were *headache inducing*, to say the least... The big secret about April & Kyle kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth. I also didn't like how much I ultimately ended up liking Kyle.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this; the story felt a bit too juvenile. The constant Twilight references drove me crazy, and all the jealousy games were just too much for me. This book was like a mini soap opera - except just not as entertaining.
Ok first of all, that rating is a 2.5, which is maybe a little unfair of me because I know a lot of people would genuinely love this story. It just didn't work for me.
So, the good: For the most part, the characters were awesome. They were well-developed, good people with a genuine friendship. Jess and Anthony were hilarious and there were some great scenes that did have me laughing. It was a sweet story, especially if you're into romance and drama. It was kind of like reading a teenage soap.
But, the bad: The beginning was very rushed. Considering that what happens in chapter one is crucial to the story, I think the author could have spent a little more than two pages describing it. And frankly, the book is very long and some bits (and characters) are, well, kind of pointless. It's like she only put them in to bulk it out a bit. This being the case, could she not simply have used that first crucial incident to bulk out her story? Also, the grammar mistakes were awful. Nobody's perfect but this was really bad. I wanted to tear my hair out every time the phrase "I seen" was used. I don't think "I saw" or "I have seen" was present even once! I thought there was way too much detail into some things that really don't matter. I mean, one whole paragraph was dedicated to describing how April went to the bathroom. And the constant references to Twilight made me cringe. I don't really know why because I do like Twilight but . . . Still, it bugged me.
I think if the author had corrected her grammar mistakes and edited the book a little, it could have been better.
Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. So awful. Way too much.
She wants her best friend's brother. A guy she goes out with abuses her. Her ex-boyfriend's sister is sick, so she needs to comfort him. So...the best friend's brother gets mad. She was pregnant, but lost the baby. Her dad comes back...with cancer. She thinks HER GUY got hit by a car driven by the crazy abuser. Really it was her ex, who is severely injured. He dies...kind of, somehow she brings him back to life. But he's okay.
Oh my crap. It was so ridiculous and hard to read. I'm really not quite sure why I finished it.
And then in the end, everything's just fine. Her dad lives, all her friends end up dating and having kids, she's going to get married. The most horrible and ridiculously cheesy (but angering) happily ever after. Ever.
I read this book two weeks ago and I still remember all this awful stuff. But I don't remember names, because I don't care. Sorry "Sharlay" (And what's up with that? Authors should have two names, you're not a singer/actress) but this was just a really bad book for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First off ...erm is NOT a word no matter how many times you use it. Sat does not work in place of sitting. April is 16 and TSTL. I just couldn't finish this. The grammar alone is bad enough it practically jumps off the page and slaps you in the face. Plus on my kindle it say there are 449 pages and I just can't see torturing my eyes with this anymore.
Reasons for 1 star: 1) The amount of times the phrase "burst out laughing" is used is ridiculous. I counted 4 on one page, and unless these people are freaking comedians, there is no reason to laugh that much, so often 2) The editing and spelling was awful 3) Despite the story actually being nice, the ending was quite unrealistic considering she was only 16.
I have to be honest. I'm not sure exactly how to rate this book. It wasn't anything at all like I expected. So.. It begins with a young lady, April, who her longtime boyfriend, Kyle, just breaks up with her. To say she was devastated puts it lightly. The day she finally emerges from her house to renter the world it's only for her best friends, Crystals, birthday party. Unbeknownst to her, her ex and his new girlfriend are there as well. Confronted with her ex, her BFFs brother, Aiden, took pity on her and with her ex in front says that they are on a date that night. April intrigued by Kyles jealousy asked Aiden if he could continue to be her "date" for the evening. Deep down hoping that Kyle will see what he lost and comes back to her. April's very comfortable with Aiden since they have literally grew up with each other. It's nothing like the typical "fake" relationship storyline. It's while going to the park and meeting up with friends that they begin to feel a spark. And it is then that April is quite surprised by her actual feelings she starts to have for Aiden. Both realize quick that something is definitely between them but April holds back because its against "girl code" to date your friends brother. April struggles with her new found feelings for Aiden. Where Aiden is more confident in what he feels for her. There are so many twist, turns, misunderstandings, and other people interfering in this story that I couldn't possibly write about off of them. It did keep me reading because I just wasn't sure where at times the story would end up. The addition of the different characters was awesome. Crystal (feisty), Anthony (yum), Jess, even down to each others parents & grandparents really helped complete the picture. Did I enjoy this book? Yes Dislikes: I felt at times that the story really drug on and was pretty slow at times. And the interactions of all the characters with each other were a bit unbelievable. I love details. It helps me take a mental ride with the author. But I certainly had no need to know every little detail down to the act of "pulling down my pants to go to the toilet." The author giving you the back story of characters I feel is very important to build the characters and helps the reader connect. Sharlay did a wonderful job on this front. And who doesn't like a great epilogue. Thinking that the story had a nice sweet ending only made me a bit more surprised when I found out there will be an additional book. All in all I did like this book and hope to see more of what this author can do. Curiously I'll be looking for the next installment just to see what else this author can wring out of this group of characters. Great job!
I probably won't be doing a full review on this one. I can say that while I liked the book, it did seem to drag on and on. (I want to say my Kindle clocked it at a 10 hour read, and that's at my reading speed.) Anything that could have gone wrong for the heroine, basically did. The end of the book get nicely tied up, and by this I mean, you get every single thing tied up. So it's both good and bad, for me personally. I was ready to move on to something else, yet I was wanting the end of this book.
I realize this book may be written in British English but my American brain says the grammar is terrible as well as missing punctuation in some bits. The description only describes one instance in the first chapter. Nodding of the head is in agreement and shaking is in disagreement. This book reads like a soap opera but other than that it's an okay book.
I began to read Pretend in December, 2012. But I just couldn't get through with it. So I tried again and again. But still, I couldn't go further than 10%. So after more than a year of trying, I think it's time to DNF.
It was not what I expected. In a sort of a good way. Although it took me a while to get into it, and the grammar errors and some missing punctuation did annoy me quite a bit, I liked the book as I started to get hooked by the story. And I LOVED Aiden with all my heart. He was so sweet and caring and sexy and passionate and everything! Even though sometimes I wanted to slap him for his stupidity and stubborness (such as not listening to reasons and running away without asking for an explanation), he was obviously a really nice guy. And Him and April were just so cute together and right for each other! All the kids were fun and I found myself chuckling at some very hilarious scene. Jess cracked me up, as well as Anthony. They were funny. April was cute and very nice and a kind girl with a big heart. Crystal, I liked her, although sometimes she was really nosy. But she was a really amazing best friend. Jake creeped me out. Kyle, at first I didn't like him, but then as he started to change after April told that sad thing, I got to like him a little. And what he did for April and Aiden was just the sweetest and bravest thing ever. And after the accident, I liked the way Kyle and Aiden became friends. What they had was really special. I liked how it ended but reading the plot for next book (Make Believe) annoyed the hell out of me. I'm not really looking forward to reading it. I can't see the reason why you should put so many complications in a couple's love life. Leave them alone, dude! They deserve some peace and a happily ever after. Not some nasty b*tch getting her paws between them. Anyway, all in all a good book. I'll give it 3.5 stars.
i was in chapter 9 wen i gave up on the book n jst for the heck of it, i went ahead n checked the number o chapters,i shit u not, there were 30 ODD chapters!!!! and a 15 page epilogue!!! i mean who wants to read 30 odd chapters of a lost cause
ok so i picked up the book for the cover look at it, its HOT!! and to say the book doesn't live up to its cover is d understatement of the century! it was awryt i guess, at the start but then with the whole jumpinf back and forth between Kyle and aiden, i totaly lost interest PICK ONE AND STICK WITH IT GIRL!!! blah!
SO DISSAPOINTED! and then i get to know there is book 2 KMN!
1/2 star a very sucky book. very predictable too many characters lot of cliches looong storyunrealistic in a very obvious way the most irritating part : waaay toooo many typos!!!!
I should have learned my lesson after reading 'living with the bad boy.' Honestly, I'm not even half way through this book and I just can't fathom why this story is taking sooooo long to play out. I just can't get into it. And the Twilight references? *major face palm*.
So the story was ok. The storyline was cliche but who does love reading stories like late every once and a while. What I had a problem with was the author introduced a new character or issue at random. It was frustrating. It kind of felt like drama was created for the sake of having drama. Also, the grammar and sentence structure was awful. At times awkward and caused me to pause reading. Yes I realize it was on Wattpad. Yes I make allowances for that. But when it effects my reading flow, it effects my review.
Overall, it’s not a bad story. Just needs editing.
This book wasn't anything at all like I expected it to be. I thought it would be just any other book. But it was anything but just any other book. It was more than just any other book. So... It begins with April getting dumped by Kyle for Rachel (who was a bitch in the beginning). She goes to Crystal’s b-day party. Her ex and his new girlfriend are there as well. Confronted with her ex, her BFFs brother, Aiden, took pity on her and with her ex in front says that they are on a date that night. April intrigued by Kyle’s jealousy asked Aiden if he could continue to be her "date" for the evening. Deep down hoping that Kyle will see what he lost and comes back to her. April's very comfortable with Aiden since they have literally grew up with each other. April starts liking Aiden but April holds back because it’s against the "girl code" to date your friend’s brother. There are so many twist, turns, misunderstandings, and other people interfering in it. It kept me reading because there were sooo many twists and unexpected events like, April wasn’t a virgin and had gotten pregnant then lost the baby Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Dislikes: I had no need to know every little detail down to the act of "pulling down my pants to go to the toilet."
Likes: I liked how you made there be soo many problems for her to deal with that she needed help to sort them out. And there was a message too well for me anyways, “Don’t ever lie because you don’t know what you had until you are on the verge of losing it. I could connect with the April and Rachel on to a certain level. And never in a million years did I think Aiden and Kyle would become besties and have a bromance. ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒████████▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒███▒▒██▒▒███▒▒▒ ▒▒██▒▒▒▒██▒▒▒▒██▒▒ ▒██▒▒▒▒▒██▒▒▒▒▒██▒ ▒██▒▒▒▒████▒▒▒▒██▒ ▒██▒▒▒██████▒▒▒██▒ ▒▒██▒██▒██▒██▒██▒▒ ▒▒▒███▒▒██▒▒███▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒████████▒▒▒▒▒ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒

Don’t have to play pretend But we can still be friends I’ll love you till the end My forever best friend
I’ll love you till the end... I’ll love you till the end...
the friendship in Pretend was amazing they were funny to and i really enjoy it. it was a really good romance but i don't think the writer has to continue there story it had a perfect ending . Aiden and April were so sweet and great together . Anthony and Jess ? were perfection there story i would love to read about
I loved this book!! I seen the reviews on this book was half and half but I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did.
When April's boyfriend Kyle breaks up with her she is devastated. She can't seem to get over him and isn't able to leave home for about 6 weeks. Finally her best friend Crystal is able to talk her into coming to her birthday party. When she arrives she notices Kyle and his new girlfriend Rachel are there so she tells Kyle she has moved on. When Kyle wants to know with who, Crystal's brother Aiden jumps in and says he is her new "boyfriend."
Soon April realizes she has true feelings for Aiden. The more time they spend together, the more her feelings grow but because Aiden is her best friends brother she thinks it would be breaking all the rules. Soon Aiden is able to break down her walls but what will happen when Crystal finds out? Will she end up losing Crystal or Aiden...or both?
There are so many twists and turns in this book, I could not put it down!! I needed to know what was going to happen next. I loved April but there was times I wanted to shake her and tell her to just tell Crystal she had true feelings for Aiden and get it over with.
I loved most of the secondary characters in this book. Aprils grandma and grandpa were such a hoot. I loved all of April and Aiden's friends. They were all so funny and I loved that they all stuck up for each other. I loved the epilogue. It takes place 8 years later and even though this book has a HEA it made me super happy to learn there would be a book 2. I am off to one click it now to see what all the gang is up to!!
Awesome!!! I read the book for the second time now. I don't like to read books that contain cheating but I thought I should give it a try and I did. Cheating is a no-go for me so i may be a little cold hearted but I can't comprehend why April suffers so much because of Kyle and Rachel. But if I look at friends or people who were cheated on and see how they hurt, I think it's understandable. Through the book I saw how much someone can hurt because of cheating. The book has everything you need for a good book. You have love, pain, friendship, secrets and a lot more. I absolutely fell in love with Aiden. I often read books where the girls loves her best friend's brother and I couldn't understand why this should be a problem. Because of this book I understood a little bit more why the girl is afraid to tell her friend. The story of the book was totally amazing. There were a lot of unexpected turns where I thought "Oh my God" (like: she was pregnant?). Sometimes I could have cried but I also laughed a lot. I love books with different POVs and this book has it. There were just two things I didn't like. The deatils were often well balanced, but sometimes a little too much (when she goes to the toilet or how she cleans her face is not nescessary). And Jake's POV is also unnecessary. It shows how he thinks and how feels but I didn't like him from the beginning so I wasn't that interested in his POV.
All in all, PRETEND is definitely an awesome book and it's a must read in my eyes.
