Crystal, a Fairy's Dream is a wonderful book for kids (and kids at heart). The story tells, in quick and easy-to-read fashion, the story of a young fairy aspiring to join a dance troupe of fairies who make the snow "sparkle." Lannen does a lovely job painting a portrait of a unique fairy world with an economy of language and smart use of metaphor and other imagery.

Children who aspire to success in any kind of performance (theatre, dance, etc.) will find much inspiration in the tale which has a sufficient amount of narrative tension and a wonderful outcome for our titular hero.

Characterizations are strong and warm-hearted, and Lannen gives us a number of well-defined and fun personalities. I highly recommend this fun and breezy read - would make a great bedtime tale, and I suspect there will be many repeat requests from young readers/listeners to return to this fun world.
