I read Purple Magic because I needed a book with word 'purple' for a challenge and it was short. I was not expecting much, but it wasn't bad at all. Standard paranormal love story with vampires.
My only complaint is that the main couple fell for each other instantly. It was explained with 'mates' etc. but still..

This is an author I like and I think her writing style is top of the line. The author has a great imagination and talent. But I found this 96 page ebook a bit too short and lacking for my taste.

The heroine was a bit inconsistent.....After pushing to do what she wanted to do....she submitted very quickly to the hero. And after only agreeing to mate with him when he allowed her to dominate him sexually (something is not right here) she allowed him to put her aside while he had all the action in the end of the story.

I think the author did slowly build up the story and for the most part it was interesting, but when we got to the part where all the action happened it was explained away that she was kept safe and her Mate & Dad took care of it. Just as I started to care for the heroine, she stepped back out of the limelight.....

It felt a bit unfinished to me and I think another 50 pages and some more story would have made this a much higher rated story for me. Sorry....I want to love it.

WOW!!! I have read erotica stories with shape shifters before, but this was my first vampire read and it was great! I loved Jolene and Drago. So much so, I would love for their story to continue. The chemistry between these two was phenomenal. Their journey made me wonder what it would be like to be a vampire and find my mate. ;) I've had the Werewolf Society in my kindle for awhile now, and reading Purple Magic and made that series next on my list. I can't wait to see how hot things can get with the wolves!!!

This was an awesome quick read for me. I love Vampire books and this did not disappoint at all. Shifters, Vampires, half-breeds, etc...all good to me. I like another reviewer wish it was longer and I would not mind a followup or two. Drago is delicious and would love to know more about this world!!

Another hit for Ms. Jones ;)

So i’m going to start off by saying that i was going through LRJ’s library to see what books I haven’t read and that’s how i came across this one. It’s definitely not my usual. While i loved Twilight and a few others that are in that realm, Vampire related stories aren’t usually my jam. However, i read it because of this amazing author and given it’s novella length, I don’t mind.

What we have here is the romance story of our innocent (but maybe not so innocent) main leading lady Jolene – a girl who is half vampire and who really has no family aside from her best friend who’s gone missing. She’s only been given bits and pieces about her past, things that we learn aren’t the complete truth (shocker) and when her friend goes missing after spending time with other Vampires (i don’t know that we ever got to the bottom of what amount human or not Carrie is tbh), Jolene takes it upon herself to rescue her since no one else will.

When she’s directed to a man named Drago, her life changes forever. She knows what the powerful “Slayer’ vampires are like – her father is one, so as soon as she meets Drago, she knows that she’s in for a tough time. That’s only the beginning of it since we quickly see that Drago has some extreme and deep draw to her, deeper than he has ever felt before and he’s not entirely sure why since he knows that she’s not a full vampire and the connection he’s feeling, the mating bond is typically only amongst full vampires.

The story that we get from here out is one where we see them struggle with the connection that they have, both in reality and that they have to fake in the hopes of rescuing Carrie. Drago has been working to shut down the operation of another vampire Alex who happens to be the one who’s got Carrie. Drago has to play a role, make it seem like Jolene is his captive so they can save Carrie, and where that takes them is an intense journey.

In true Lisa Renee Jones fashion, we see some really hot scenes, hotter than i’ve actually read on other stories so i’m impressed. I feel like her earlier stories actually got us hotter and more bothered than some of the installments lately. Not a bad thing, just something that i’ve noticed. Regardless, we see Jolene and Drago take on the world in a sense in the hopes to bring her friend hope and we don’t know if they will be successful.

At the same time, secrets about Jolene’s past are revealed and they completely blow up her world and everything that she thought she knew about who she was and what her parents are. It explains much and yet leaves so much more in question.

Because this is a stand alone and a novella length, we know that the plot can only be so complicated and so deep, but i have to say that it was a fast read and still quite enjoyable. I can’t say that i’ll stay in the vampire romance section, but i don’t mind the sojourn.

I finished reading this because I needed a book with purple in the title. The naughty bits weren't unenjoyable, but the character development was lacking, and the story telling clunky.

An interesting paranormal read…

Jolene Morrison, a half vampire, is alone in the world after her mother died with an absent vampire father that she hasn’t been able to reach. Her best friend Carrie is family to her. But Carrie became involved with a man and has since disappeared within the world of a dangerous sex club. Jolene will do anything to get her back believing that being half-vampire will protect her from the manipulations of other vampires. She seeks out help from the vampire Drago and is overwhelmed by his presence and her attraction to him. She is supposed to be immune and wonders how he could affect her so. When he refuses to help her she decides to go it alone but she is not prepared for what doing anything to save her friend comes to mean.

Drago is a vampire and a slayer. He is overwhelmed by his attraction to Jolene and knows how real it is and what it means but it is too dangerous for her to search for her friend. He is not able to tell her why though and so he discourages her hoping that she’ll leave it alone. When he sees her inside the sex club his fear for her sets him into action. He’ll do anything to protect her even if it hurts her. She didn’t realize how dangerous walking into the club was for who she is.

It’s been a while since I have read this author’s paranormal works and I like the world that she has created here. Jolene and Drago were interesting and likable characters and you could definitely feel their attraction. I have to note that the sex scene in the club totally went outside this reader’s comfort zone. I understand its place in the story line but I did not enjoy reading it. With the exception of that scene it was an enjoyable short sexy paranormal story. Loved the epilogue.

Purple magic - the magic of love at first sight

"They shared a look so tender, so intense, she could barely breathe. In that moment, she knew, without any doubt, no matter what the future held, she loved this man. It was crazy. Ridiculous even. They’d only just met. Still it was true."

Jolie lost her best friend Carrie in a sex club called Purple Magic. She seeks help to get her friend out of the club from a vampire named Drago. There is an undeniable attraction between Drago and Jolie that develops as the story progresses.

I don't normally read paranormal romance but I found Purple Magic easy to read. It didn't have the complicated character definitions usually found in paranormal and I appreciate that.

Over all I think you will like Purple Magic if you like reading love at first sight/ soulmate stories.

I think I would have liked this story more if there had been more character development and story.

DNF. Too many missing pieces of info. Not enough character development.
