Superhero in Disguise

Rate this book
Tori Lewis has followed the rules her whole life. She’s safe and well, heart intact, but there’s always been something odd about her, something hidden.

Joe Clarke knows his destiny is to lead the superheroes of Double Bay just as his father before him. Nothing is going to keep him from that path.

But on Halloween, no one is who they seem. Quiet girls can pretend to be bold, confident, adventurous. And even a superhero can pretend to be just a man.

“Superhero in Disguise” is a free short story in the Adventures of Lewis and Clarke series, a prequel to book one, Unexpected Superhero.

Kitty Bucholtz writes light urban fantasy and romantic comedy, often with an inspirational element woven in. Her stories feature women whose sense of humor and nervous gutsy-ness get them into and out of all kinds of trouble. Her newest hobby – exploring the fascinating worlds in comic books – led her to write a superhero series in the urban fantasy genre. She writes romantic comedies because – well, she lives in one!

She grew up in Northern Michigan, the setting for many of her stories, and married her college sweetheart. Their romantic romps have included a scolding at Parliament House in Belfast for canoodling, and two trips Down Under while her handsome hubby made a movie penguin named Mumble dance. While in Sydney, she earned her MA in Creative Writing. She decided to combine that with her undergraduate degree in business and her years of experience in accounting and finance to become a writer-turned-independent-publisher. She loves to teach writing workshops online and in person.

When not writing in her home office, Kitty is always looking for reasons to take work – or maybe a novel – to the beach. She and her husband regularly run half marathons to offset the hours spent on their TV addiction.

It was cute. I might check out the rest of the series.

My only point of contention is the possibility that the MC, Tori could have been manipulating the dude since she can apparently control minds?? That just felt a bit off, especially with the whole "Protect her" thing that seemed to be echoing inside of his head.

Regardless, I'm interested in where this could go and I've never minded a bit of romance. I think the story might be more gratifying if I read the series first, so I might circle back and re-evaluate if that happens.

Superhero in Disguise by Kitty Bucholtz
Adventures of Lewis and Clarke: A Short Story
Tori Lewis and her sister Lexie are different. After spending most of her life on medicines and at a psychiatrist to help her be more normal for her mom, she's ready to change. Operation Freedom. Tori is moving into her own little house and she has stopped taking her pills. She was finally going to see who she really is.

Joe Clarke is from a family of superheroes and he's out on patrol this Halloween night. A scream and a couple of devilish teenagers running away, sets him into action. Something inside urges him to go and help the woman. And what he finds on the sidewalk is more than he expected. A beautiful blond pirate.

This is a shorter story that gives the reader insight into who Tori is and where she's been. Also giving a small glimpse into Joe's life. This tale is the prequel to Unexpected Superhero where it looks like Joe and Tori's story continues. The story is humorous at parts and yet serious because Tori has never been allowed to truly be herself.

This way too short book about how Tori and Joe meet was fun to read. It hints at things, gives many clues, but never spells much out...just makes you want to read the next book. As the mother of a son who has always loved superheros, I decided I had to read this. Boy am I glad I did, because it started me on this series and lots of fun reading. I highly recommend you start with this prequel, then progress to the wedding book which is named A VERY MERRY SUPERHERO WEDDING. It is short (36 pages) and currently free from Amazon.com. Grab your copy now and meet some very special people.

Great Quick Read

I really enjoyed this quick read. Can't wait to see what happens next. Tori is cute and funny. The thought of being rescued by a tall, dark and handsome stranger is every woman's fantasy. But when you make him a superhero, and that's a fantasy on steroids. I liked this short a lot.
